Even before WrestleMania 33, fans were already looking forward to the next ‘Mania set to take place in New Orleans. Following an underwhelming WM 33 card, fans are looking forward to a rebound. With a stacked roster on Raw and SmackDown, along with NXT call ups, it seems like WM 34 is more than likely going to be the best WrestleMania in a very long time.
In this article, we try our very best to book the show with some rumored matchups. Some feature returning stars, while others, feature some members from the NXT roster. At the end of the day, if even a quarter of these bouts take place it’ll surpass this year’s WrestleMania without a doubt. At the end of the day, we hope Vince is at least starting to think about some of these matches.
From feel good stories to TLC matches, these possible encounters give us something to be excited about heading into next year’s WrestleMania. Be sure to comment and let us know which other rumored matchups you’d like to see. So without any further ado, here are 15 rumored WrestleMania 34 matches we hope Vince is thinking about. Enjoy!
15. Broken Matt & Brother Nero In A TLC Match
Following this year’s WrestleMania, fans are already getting excited at the possible post-show plans. What makes their return that much more compelling is the fact that the two now maintain different gimmicks, which rose their popularity to new heights outside of the WWE.
In terms of booking, you can easily separate the two, putting Broken Matt on SmackDown to feud with the likes of Bray, while Brother Nero showcases his abilities on the flagship program of Monday Night Raw. However, seeing the two as a Tag Team is without a doubt, something most fans would want to see and there’s no better way to launch that than on the grandest stage of them all with tables, ladder and chairs. We hope Vince books them separately only to have them reunite at next year’s WrestleMania.
14. Triple H Vs Shane McMahon
Triple H taking part of a WrestleMania is pretty much a guarantee year after year. Without a doubt, the guy thrives on getting back into shape and performing on the biggest platform in sports and entertainment. Nowadays, there aren’t many opponents that excite us to be put against The Game, aside from his own brother-in-law, Shane.
The intrigue about this match is the fact that many believe there is in fact genuine heat between the two. No disrespect to Shane, but most fans just really haven’t bought into the heat of his last two ‘Mania opponents, The Undertaker and A.J. Styles. Taking on Triple H however, would add a new dynamic and one that fans would really want to see. A stipulation being added to the match can only add to the epic encounter the two would have. If the two are to be involved in the show next year, we hope it’s being put in the ring against one another.
13. Kevin Owens Vs Kurt Angle
A lot of fans are looking forward to WrestleMania just so they can get a glimpse at Kurt Angle, a Superstar that has been away from the WWE for over a decade. The guy personified what it meant to be a sports entertainer, putting up outstanding matches on a nightly basis along with dropping some of the most memorable promos of the 90s and into the 2000s. Man, was he ever something special to watch.
With the announcement of his Hall of Fame induction, many have begun to speculate over who a possible opponent can be if he is to return inside of the squared circle. Given he joins Raw, we find no better opponent than Kevin Owens. Without a doubt, Angle will be over no matter what, so he needs to be placed against a ruthless heel and KO fits the bill perfectly. A feud between the two can be built up for months till they finally clash for the first time ever, in what would be a possible show-stealing encounter.
12. #DIY Vs American Alpha Vs The Revival
You can argue that two of the best Tag Teams in the world are currently down in NXT. Both The Revival and #DIY just seem to be a step ahead of everybody else at the moment. With that said, a call-up seems more than due at this point and we believe that their WrestleMania debuts can take place at the upcoming WM 34.
From a booking standpoint, putting the teams on SmackDown would add to their uprising Tag Division. With American Alpha at the top, these three teams would feud for a very long time in order to maintain Tag Team supremacy over each other. The feud would be mouth-watering and having it reach its peak at WM 34 would just add the cherry on top. The feud would be very reminiscent to what Edge, Christian, The Hardys and The Dudleys did back in the day. Rarely has a tag match stolen the show at ‘Mania, but this possible match can certainly do so if given the chance.
11. Orton Puts Over Dillinger
Orton has been protected by the WWE for quite some time and with reason. The guy has the look and abilities to be a top star and he’s been booked as such for this year’s WrestleMania. However, by the time WrestleMania 34 rolls around, Orton will be 38. Inching towards his 40s, we think it might be time that Randy starts to put others over.
One guy we can’t help but to think of would be Tye Dillinger. The wrestling journeyman has a feel good story and his persona has connected with the crowds. Without a doubt, he’ll be on the main roster come post-WrestleMania 33 and we hope his debut will be on SmackDown Live. With that said, Dillinger’s underdog story would be brilliant to watch unfold and putting him in a high profile match against Randy would only add to that. It would be the ultimate underdog match and one that Randy should finally lose. The question remains, is Vince even thinking about such a possibility?
10. New Day Triple Threat Match
Back during the Raw and SmackDown Draft, some fans were hoping the New Day would finally split up and that was way back in the summer. Fast forward months later and the group are still together set to host the upcoming WrestleMania 33 show.
It’s not that the group has grown old or boring, just more of the notion that fans would like to see them move on to things individually. They’ve been together for a really long time, and I think we can all agree the time has come to split the trio up. In terms of booking, the WWE has a year to cause tension between the group to slowly tamper their brotherhood. By WM 34, they would finally be separated while engaging in a rare Triple Threat Match against one another. The bout would officially allow them to go their separate ways while potentially stealing the show with their three different styles combining power and speed into a match.
9. Chris Jericho Vs Bobby Roode
The world would be put on hold for this monumental encounter featuring these two epic egomaniacs stepping foot inside of the ring in front of the bright lights of WrestleMania. With Roode set to turn 40 in a couple of weeks, while Y2J is 46, these two have exemplified that age is just a number looking like they’re still in their early 30s. Jericho had arguably his best run ever in 2016 becoming a must-see Superstar on Raw, while Roode not only made his debut for NXT, but won the World Title defeating Nakamura. Everything about these guys is absolute money from their in-ring work, to their personas, to their entrances.
A clash between the two would have the sports entertainment world talking. The two 40 year olds would have the chance to steal the show and man, what a sight that would be. We hope Vince is at least thinking about this match heading into next year’s WrestleMania.
8. Mysterio Bolsters the Cruiserweight Division
This one might sound a little unrealistic, but we’re taking a risk here and discussing the possibility of another return, this time of the beloved 619 star Rey Mysterio. His return would be welcomed in more ways than one. Let us explain.
Looking at the current state of the WWE, one of the biggest disappointments has been the Cruiserweight Division. Following the CWC, fans drooled at the weight class continuing on Raw but man, has it ever tanked. The WWE managed to make a mess of it, adding that disturbing sports entertainment feel to the class. It all feels so scripted and the division has struggled once again. Aside from Neville’s contributions as the champion, the division has showed nothing noteworthy. Enter Mysterio, who would without a doubt add excitement to the struggling weight class. Rey returning at ‘Mania to face the champ would bolster the division and improve it in more ways than one. If someone is to return next ‘Mania, we hope it’s Mysterio!
7. Heel Finn Balor Vs Babyface Seth Rollins
Another possible show-stealing matchup, these two would certainly put on an entertaining display. Yes, they have fought before but we’re looking ahead at some different circumstances this time around.
A part two with these guys can have a very different plot. With Balor seeking revenge on Rollins, we can see the Demon King resort to low tactics like employing his old stablemates Gallows and Anderson to perform a hit on Seth. This would turn Finn into a heel, while creating a dominant force alongside Gallows and Anderson (maybe The Shield can have Seth’s back?).
Whether a title is on the line or not, the two would partake in an excellent match that would have a serious edge to it this time around. The matchup would also further intensify Seth’s role as a babyface, allowing him to become even more popular. This matchup would excite fans, especially if the two would change roles this time around.
6. Daniel Bryan Vs The Miz
A possible match that’s been brewing since the brand draft, we can think of no greater return match for Daniel Bryan than taking on The Miz. The event is set to take place in New Orleans (the home of Bryan’s WrestleMania XXX main event victory), so you would assume the company would seriously ponder the opportunity to have Daniel back inside the squared circle.
The match would certainly blow the roof off of WM 34; Miz has been an excellent heel while Daniel Bryan continues to be beloved with his role as the SmackDown Live General Manager. Without a doubt, fans would love to see Bryan back in the ring and having such a match in such a location would be the perfect send off for one more bout. Seeing him back inside that ring on such a stage would be chilling without a doubt, and seeing him be put up against The Miz would only add to the hype.
5. Brock Lesnar Vs Samoa Joe
As the years roll along, it seems harder and harder to find Brock a legitimate opponent. So much so, that the WWE knocked on the door of a wrestler that’s over 50 to return and combat the beast. With that story being put to an end at this year’s WrestleMania, it remains to be seen who’s next on Brock’s agenda.
Looking at the current roster, it’s not hard to predict future opponents that pose a threat. Of course, Roman Reigns will be back in the discussion as the two are finally set to lock up once again at SummerSlam according to the rumor mill. Looking passed that, there’s only one name most of us would like to see against Lesnar, and that’s Samoa Joe’s name. This match would be one for the ages filled with stiff punches and kicks throughout the bout. It would be a great display and one that fans would certainly pay money to see.
4. Four Horsewomen Ladder Match
If there was ever a year the women could have main evented a WrestleMania, it would be this year’s. The card was quite lackluster with the marquee matchup likely lasting no more than five minutes. As for Bray and Orton, the match has been built up very well, but it doesn’t scream out WM main event.
Next year would be another chance to have them main event the program with such a match. In terms of fantasy booking, we would see Lynch win a number one contender battle royal only to exercise her rights on Raw, leading to the epic fatal-four-way encounter featuring the Four Horsewomen. Such a match with all that great chemistry would steal the show and give the women the chance to be at the center stage with such a stipulation. Just think of the WrestleMania moments such a match would provide from a “Bayley to Belly” off the top of the ladder to the “Banks Statement” being locked in while hanging from high above.
3. A.J. Styles Vs Nakamura
Some fans were very disappointed with the booking of A.J. Styles heading into WrestleMania. Even Corey Graves himself spoke out about his displeasures heading into this year’s match claiming the bout “does nothing for him”. Critics have been harsh with the booking of A.J.’s match, but in Shane’s defense, he’s just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
As of next year, fans will want to watch A.J. in something more prominent. We can think of no better way in doing so than matching him up against the great Shinsuke Nakamura.
The match would be special for a plethora of reasons, particularly because it would be Shinsuke’s debut match at the stage. Without a doubt, Nakamura will be on the card by the time next year’s ‘Mania rolls around. The two would have a show-stealing match and one that would be talked about for a long time to come.
2. Roman Reigns Vs John Cena
Looking ahead, this might be the marquee matchup to highlight the upcoming WrestleMania 34. Year after year, it seems like a priority for the WWE to book Roman into high profile matches and that’s likely not to change heading into WM 34 next year. The company has been hinting at this match for quite some time and with Cena’s Hollywood schedule dominating his life as of late, the time for such a match is now.
Without a doubt, the WWE would promote the living hell out of such a match. Also, a title would likely come into play, whether it be Cena or Roman as the champion. No matter how you feel about either individual, the match would be quite the spectacle and it would be interesting to see who the fans would lean towards in such a bout. If this match is to be booked, it would dominate the headlines.
1. Cesaro Or Sami Zayn Win A World Title
All the greatest WrestleMania moments we remember are feel good moments in large; whether it be Shawn Michaels realizing his dream or Daniel Bryan overcoming the odds. We’re suckers for a good old underdog story.
With that said, we see no better platform than New Orleans to relive another true underdog story play out. The company planned to perfection with Daniel Bryan and we hope the same can happen to either Ceasro or Sami Zayn.
For years and years, fans have been pleading to see Cesaro finally win a major title. Going into the other side of his 30s, it still hasn’t happened. Just imagine the reaction if it were to finally unfold on the biggest stage of them all!
Sami Zayn would be another great story. He’s been booked similar to Daniel Bryan going against The Authority and constantly being overlooked on the roster. Having him win would certainly create quite the moment for fans to get on board with. We can’t think of a better way to end ‘Mania than with these two possible scenarios. Is Vince thinking about this at all heading into next year? We can only hope.
