There’s no doubt that superheroes are a huge part of American culture. Many of them made their debuts in comic books, which became so popular that they eventually started appearing on television and the big screen.
According to Wikipedia, the first known superhero movie was ‘The Mark of Zorro’ in 1920, which continued with eight more editions, all the way until 1998 with “The Mask of Zorro.’ Superman made his debut in 1951 with ‘Superman and The Mole Men’, and Batman made his big screen debut in 1966. Both were based off of a popular television series. From that point onwards, the rest is history.
Superhero movies and television series have exploded over the last twenty to thirty years, especially in recent times where it seems like every other month there is a new superhero show or movie being released. People just can’t get enough of all those action packed scenes, along with all of the superhuman powers that we can only dream of having, as well as all the gadgets and features that come with their superhero suits. And with modern day technology, the experience has been enhanced to a ‘whole nother level’.
However, just like regular citizens, superheroes need a support system. They can’t go around saving the world on their own. They need a female companion by their side. Preferably a hot one. After all, they’re only human, like you and me. Well, most of them are, and even the ones that are from another plant, like Superman, also need a love interest, as well. So let’s have a look at 15 of the hottest superhero girlfriends.
15. Erica Durance – Smallville
It’s now time to focus on a television series and for Superman to finally make an appearance. Superman is probably the most popular superhero ever, but his love interests in the movies are a bit questionable. Perhaps the producers want viewers to focus more on the man of steel himself, instead of other distractions.
That’s not the case with Erica Durance from Smallville. She played Lois Lane in the hit series that lasted ten seasons. Producers finally introduced Lois lane in season 4, where Erica was a recurring guest before becoming a regular in the series.
According to Wikipedia, “Durance was cast three days before filming began; although she could initially appear in only four episodes, according to the film division of Warner Bros., after negotiations her character was cleared for more appearances.”
14. Charlize Theron – Hancock
Okay, so Hancock isn’t a traditional Marvel Comics superhero, but who said they had to be? After all, there are plenty of superhero movies that didn’t evolve from the famous comics series. With superhero movies becoming so popular, of course they’re going to create and introduce more characters.
Charlize plays the role of Mary Embrey, the wife of Jason Bateman’s character Ray Embrey, and is also Hancock’s ex-wife. She also has powers and abilities like the alcoholic superhero Hancock, but both become weak as they get closer to each other.
13. Blake Lively – Green Lantern
Otherwise known as Carol Ferris in the Green Lantern movie, she played the Vice President of Ferris Aircraft and a long-time love interest of Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern. Like every superhero, the Green lantern needed a sexy girl to keep him focused and grounded when he wasn’t busy trying to save the universe.
Producers narrowed their search to five candidates before eventually selecting Blake Lively to fill the role. She managed to beat out several rivals including Eva Green, Keri Russell, Diane Kruger and Jennifer Garner. Not bad. Blake also did many of her own stunts, stating “Our director likes it real—the fights close and dirty… I’m 40 feet in the air, spiraling around. That’s the best workout you can ever do because it’s all core… You do that for ten minutes and you should see your body the next day! It’s so exhilarating, so thrilling—and nauseating.”
12. Jennifer Garner – Daredevil
The story is based on the Marvel Comics character known as The Daredevil. Jennifer plays the role of Elektra Natchios, “the daughter of billionaire Nikolas Natchios and the love interest of Matt Murdock. At a very young age, she witnessed the murder of her mother, and since then her father has had her become highly trained in martial arts.”
11. Lynn Collins – Wolverine
From the X-Men film series, Wolverine is “a prequel/spin-off focusing on the violent past of the mutant Wolverine and his relationship with his half-brother Victor Creed.”
Lynn Collins is cast as Kayla Silverfox (we love that name), “Wolverine’s Native American mutant love interest and pawn of Stryker. Describing her role, Collins said “I had to play off all the guys and their testosterone-heavy abilities. But I learned that the female powers of persuasion easily trump fangs and knives and guns.”
10. Emma Stone – The Amazing Spider-Man
Spider-Man is right up there with Batman when it comes to the amount of movies made about this immensely popular superhero, and the amount of beautiful girlfriends and love interests he’s had.
In this edition, Emma Stone played the role of Gwen Stacy and she certainly didn’t disappoint. The daughter of police captain George Stacy, Emma/Gwen didn’t waste any time capturing Spider-Man’s attention. After all, they were high school classmates, so they knew each other quite well.
9. Liv Tyler – Incredible Hulk
The daughter of famous Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler, is next up on the list. How can you blame us? Liv and her sexy lips have been renowned for many years from her roles in her dad’s music videos, various other movies, and her modeling. This time she was cast as the girlfriend of Bruce Banner – The Incredible Hulk.
Liv played the role of Betty Ross, who was a cellular biologist. In the movie, “Bruce Banner becomes the Hulk as an unwitting pawn in a military scheme to reinvigorate the supersoldier program through gamma radiation.” They actually separated because of the Hulk’s condition, but eventually got back together after all the chaos.
8. Nicole Kidman – Batman Forever
Back to Gotham City, this time with an all-star cast. Nicole Kidman played Dr. Chase Meridian, “a psychologist and love interest of Bruce Wayne”. Other Hollywood heavyweights who were involved in this film include Val Kilmer as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Jim Carrey as Edward Nygma/The Riddler, Chris O’Donnell as Dick Grayson / Robin, Tommy Lee Jones as Harvey Dent / Two-Face, and even Drew Barrymore as Sugar,
Nicole looked super hot, as she always does, and was even part of the final scene when she was a helpless “damsel in distress”, only to be saved by Batman from the clutches of The Riddler.
7. Kirsten Dunst – Spider-Man
To be honest, Kirsten has more of that cute, innocent look. Not exactly what we would call hot or sexy, but many people find that cute, innocent look to be quite hot and sexy, so we added her to the list. Okay, after viewing more pics, she is pretty hot.
Kirsten is an accomplished actress and a familiar face to those who’ve watched the Spider-Man movies, which seem to always be on television almost every day. Anytime you turn on HBO, there’s a good chance that Spider-Man is on.
Dunst plays the role of Mary Jane Watson, a girl whom Peter Parker/Spider-Man had a crush on since he was six years old. According to Wikipedia, “Dunst decided to audition after learning Tobey Maguire had been cast, feeling the film would have a more independent feel. Dunst earned the role a month before shooting in an audition in Berlin.”
6. Anne Hathaway – The Dark Knight Rises
Out of all the superheroes, Batman seems to be have the most luck with the ladies. In every Batman movie- and there are many- he is always involved with some hottie who is usually played by a popular actress of that era. In this case, it’s ‘The Cat’, played by Anne Hathaway.
Not only is Anne super hot, but that cat suit really adds an extra bit of sexiness to her character. There’s something about a beautiful woman in uniform, no matter what uniform that may be, and a superhero suit is no different. Anne had one of the best Catwoman performances ever and looked super hot throughout the movie, even when she was seducing and betraying Bruce Wayne, or kicking the crap out of someone.
5. Rachel Weisz – Hellblazer/Constantine
Rachel Weisz stars alongside Keanu Reeves in this rollercoaster ride of angels and demons, avoiding eternal damnation, and salvaging souls. While repelling attacks by demons with her partner in crime, John Constantine, Rachel Weisz plays the character of Angela Dodson.
She is “a troubled Los Angeles Police Department Detective investigating the suicide of her twin sister, Isabel (also portrayed by Weisz). Weisz also plays Mammon, the son of Lucifer who has no patience for his father’s rule of Hell and uses Angela’s body as a means of escaping Hell to rule over Earth himself,” according to Wikipedia.
4. Katie Holmes – Batman Begins
Well, we told you that Batman was popular with the ladies, and we saved the best for last. It says a lot when you can’t even squeeze in the beautiful Kim Basinger, who easily deserves a spot on the list too. Batman has had an amazing list of talent to work with over the years, including Yvonne Craig who played in the old Batman television series.
In this edition, Katie Holmes plays Rachel Dawes, Bruce Wayne’s “childhood friend and love interest who serves as Gotham City’s assistant district attorney.” That’s one hot district attorney. Beauty and brains.
3. Gwyneth Paltrow – Iron Man
The stunning Gwyneth Paltrow played Pepper Potts in the hit movie series Iron Man. In the movie, Pepper was Tony Stark’s/Ironman’s “personal assistant and budding love interest.”
Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr. had great on-screen chemistry together. Paltrow says she studied a lot of comics for the role, so she could understand the character in more detail. She also said she liked “the fact that there’s a sexuality that’s not blatant.” As you can remember from the movie, the relationship took time to build, and Gwyneth was a perfect fit for the role, not just because of her personality and acting ability, but the fact that she was absolutely ravishing, like she always seems to be.
2. Natalie Portman – Thor
Thor is another popular Marvel Comics character who is now getting his deserved attention on the big screen. And when you’re trying to save the Earth, you need a good-looking, muscular character to get the job done, which Chris Hemsworth does to a tee. You also need a hot chick to be by his side. Enter Natalie Portman.
Portman plays Jane Foster, a scientist and Thor’s ‘love interest’. The Star Wars actress had no problem fitting in after admittingly doing hours of research and preparation for the role. Portman is not only a thorough, professional actress, she is also very pleasing to the eye. She’s ideal for almost any role and this was yet another success for her, and us.
1. Eva Mendes – Ghost Rider
The extremely seductive Eva Mendes plays alongside Nicolas Cage in this Marvel Comics adaptation of Ghost Rider. Nicolas Cage, a.k.a, Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider “is a motorcycle stunt rider who makes a deal with the Devil so that he can save his sick father and transform him into a supernatural demonic soul hunter.”
Eva’s character, Roxanne Simpson, is a news reporter and Johnny’s childhood girlfriend, whom he abandoned after his father’s death, but later re-unites with as adults.
The movie, like all of the others on the list, will not only be remembered for all the crazy action-packed scenes with intense super-human abilities from all the lead characters, but also for all the Hollywood hotties who were cast alongside them as they were fighting crime and evil, or saving the planet and universe.
