We created a previous list of kids in Hollywood that you probably didn’t know were part of the LGBTQ community, and now we have 15 more famous people to add to the list. So get ready to learn about some of the famous advocates in Tinsel Town!
This list will include people who could still be considered “kids”, people that are actually children, as well as adult kids, because let’s be honest, we want to be inclusive. You may have heard of these people, and maybe you are even fans of them. You may not even realize that some of these celebrities are attracted to both sexes, or to no sexes, or to all sexualities. It really is interesting to think about, and we hope that this list and these celebrities will help to open your eyes and spread more awareness to the LGBTQ movement.
With the results of the 2016 Presidential election still causing hurt and grief for many people, the topic of LGBTQ rights and equity is going to be even more important.
15. Chaz Bono
Okay, so Chaz Bono isn’t exactly a “kid,” but he is a great example to set our list in motion. Chaz was born Chastity Sun Bono, the daughter of Cher and Sonny Bono. Chastity officially came out as a transgender male in 1995 and changed her name to Chaz and goes by the pronoun “he.” Between the years of 2008 to 2010, Chaz underwent hormone therapy and surgeries to transition from a woman to a man. The thing is, some people know Chaz Bono and don’t even realize that he was once a girl (this is especially true for the younger generation). Chaz is probably the best example of a high-profile transgender person who went through the transition right before our eyes. That must be a really difficult thing to do, much less in the public spotlight! These days, Chaz is showing off a more slender figure and continues to be a firm supporter for LGBTQ rights and equity. In June 2016 he partnered with the Human Rights Campaign.
14. Nikko Santo Pietro
The son of Vanna White, who goes by the name “Nikko” is another celebrity offspring who dove into the LGBTQ community. Nikko’s situation is a bit…different though. At the age of 19, he moved to Arizona to be with a monk who practices the Hare Krishna lifestyle. The monk (who is male, yes), was twice Nikko’s age, and there was definitely some fear on behalf of Vanna and Nikko’s father. Vanna claims that the monk was just having a relationship with Nikko so that he could get to Vanna’s money. After all, she is loaded from her stint on Wheel of Fortune. Nikko denied those claims, and said that he and the monk truly loved each other. You can see how this can start to sound a bit fishy, right? Moreover, Nikko stated that he was “undecided” about his sexual orientation. Wait, isn’t your sexuality supposed to be something natural, something that you don’t get to choose?
13. Bella Thorne
Cute enough to put on a cupcake, yet smoldering with those delectable eyes and fiery red hair, Bella Thorne has catapulted from her stint on the Disney Channel and is now a young starlet and social media diva. While this young star tends to get herself into a bit of trouble for her immaturity and brattiness, she is also actually talented, which is more than we can say for some other celebrities. Anyway, Bella came out this year in the most subtle way possible. After posting a photo on her social media profile that included her embracing her female friend, someone asked if Bella was bisexual. The actress simply responded: “Yes.” So now we know that Bella is into both guys and girls. She dated Gregg Sulkin from 2015 to 2016, but now she appears to be single…and ready to mingle? Maybe not, since 2017 will be filled with work on a TV series, as well as 4 film projects.
12. Shailene Woodley
Shailene Woodley really broke out into the public spotlight with her role as Amy in The Secret Life of the American Teenager. Flash forward to now, and Shailene is one of those young actresses who is associated with alternative therapy treatments, granola, and environmentalism. Oh, and LGBTQ rights and equality. These are all great topics to be passionate about, by the way. In fact, Shailene was recently whisked off to jail and photographed for a mug shot after standing her ground at the Dakota Pipeline. As for her sexuality, the Divergent actress has said that she is bisexual, and could totally see herself having a successful romantic relationship with another woman. She is open to guys, too, and she just lets the pieces fall where they may. And that’s the not-so-secret life of Shailene! Her upcoming acting projects include her role as Lindsay Mills in Snowden and the 2017 TV series Big Little Lies.
11. Cara Delevingne
This young model and actress has publicly stated that if people want to say that she’s gay, then that’s great. Cara is clearly very much okay with her sexuality, and while she prefers not to label herself, she is fine with others calling her gay, lesbian, or bisexual if it will help them or others come out and embrace their own identities. And that is sort of beautiful in its own way. Back in 2015, Cara was in a same-sex relationship with Annie Clark (a performer also known as St. Vincent). Besides speaking out, supporting, and being passionate about LGBTQ equity and rights, Cara is pretty outspoken and enthusiastic about other ventures, too. These include animal rights, mental health awareness (she struggles with depression), and anti-bullying efforts. She’s a pretty cool gay-lesbian-bisexual chick! You can catch her in 2017’s films Tulip Fever and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
10. Willow Smith
It’s hard to believe that Willow Smith is 16 years old already. The daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith has come a long way in those 16 years, although the path she took was not always easy to understand. Like her brother Jaden, Willow is a bit of an enigma, and that is putting it lightly. In any case, rumors have been flying all around about Willow, especially since her older brother has come out and been very open about his sexual identity. Jaden has no problem dressing in skirts and strange “girlish” hairstyles. As for Willow, well, the public is a bit more in the dark about her. When Willow posted a photo of her female friend on Instagram and captioned it with the sentence “I love beautiful females” the Internet broke loose and took this to be her coming out story. But was it? Willow has neither denied nor confirmed it, but we’re pretty sure that she falls somewhere on the spectrum.
9. Miley Cyrus
Love her or hate her, there is no denying that Miley Cyrus really makes us think…usually about the things that we don’t want to think about in the first place. Even so, the celebrity is really good at opening up important conversations, even if they are about tough topics. One subject that is close to Miley’s heart is that of sexuality and LGBTQ equity. She herself identifies as a pansexual, which means that she can be sexually attracted to a person regardless of whether they are straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered…whatever. Her admission and full acceptance of her sexual preferences helped to open the door for other celebs and fans, which is great. And you know what? Miley might not be that crazy after all, right? The truth is that Miley often gets a bad rap, but she is a human being just like everyone else; she is just more open and flamboyant about what she believes in and fancies.
8. Ireland Baldwin
The daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger has quite a few issues on her plate, but one that she is open about embracing is her sexuality. She was previously in a same-sex relationship with Angel Haze, but the two broke up back in the early spring of 2015. Back in March 2013, Ireland signed a modelling contract with the agency IMG Models and debuted with a swimwear collection in The New York Post. She has also appeared in W Magazine, Vanity Fair, and DuJour magazine. Besides her modelling career, Ireland is branching out into acting, and is still trying to gain a foothold in that arena. In recent news, she moved to DT Model Management, and has been spotted hanging out and getting cozy with both men and women. It appears that Ireland is totally on board with the LGBTQ movement, and not only is she a supporter of LGBTQ equity, but she is actually on the spectrum. One might call her bisexual, but she prefers to drop the labels.
7. Apple Paltrow
At 12 years old, Apple Paltrow (daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow), is right at that age when she starts to question just about everything about herself. This includes sexuality. Apple’s mother has expressed concerns that Apple is not 100% sure about her sexuality, and that’s okay. Another topic that surrounded Apple and her mother is Gwyneth’s idea of “post-feminist imagery,” which may or may not be coercing Apple into dressing more provocatively. Come on, we already know that celebs are hyper-sexualized in Hollywood, even 12-year-old celebs. Is Gwen just being an overprotective helicopter parent, or is she totally valid in her worries about her daughter? We don’t know, but the truth is that if Apple wants to experiment with her sexuality and who she truly is, then that is something that Gwen is going to be totes open, accepting, and honest about, and that’s more than can be said for some parents.
6. Nick Jonas
Wait, hold up. Nick Jonas…the Nick Jonas is an LGBTQ celebrity? The singer got seriously hot, produced a 5 o’clock shadow, and ditched the curly mop top and is now a chiseled singing and acting machine. He has also stated that he is “open and comfortable” about his sexuality, which means that there may be more Nick Jonas for the rest of us. Maybe, but not quite. He is a celeb, after all! Nick has played the role of a gay character, and while it might not be 100% Nick as a gay man, the celeb has said that at the end of the day, it’s his body, and what he does with it is his choice. If he weren’t cool with using his body to portray the actions and emotions of a gay man, then he wouldn’t. But the fact of the matter is that he did do these things, and he is completely okay with that. Just another celebrity who is not going to let labels force him into some perfectly-shaped box.
5. Clementine Ford
Sure, she may be an adult child, but Clementine Ford is interesting because she officially came out as a lesbian back in February of 2009. She appeared on the front cover of Diva magazine. The daughter of Cybill Shepherd made waves with her acknowledgement, and she received the full support of her family, including her very famous mother. Clementine was already known for her role on the Showtime series The L Word, which depicts a range of lesbian characters. Yet it is always the best thing when a celebrity comes out voluntarily and without pressure to proclaim their truest identity. Clementine has stated that she really does not like labels, but with the news surrounding California’s Proposition 8 at the time, the actress thought that it would be best for her to come out as an open lesbian. It’s been great, and now Clementine is married to Cyrus Wilcox and has two lovely child, a son named Elijah and a daughter named Welles.
4. Josh Hutcherson
Would you date actor Josh Hutcherson? Whether you are a guy or a gal, it might not matter, because the Hunger Games star has said that he is open to dating either sex. That’s good news for all of us, right? Josh Hutcherson has become one of the hottest actors in recent years, and he has that rugged appearance and boyish charms that makes certain people swoon. Plus, we totally fell for him as Peeta in The Hunger Games. Of course, now that the movie franchise is over, there are other projects on Josh’s plate. These include helping to prevent homophobia and bullying in schools with his gay-straight alliance and campaign, Straight But Not Narrow. As far as acting is concerned, Josh is set to appear in the films In Dubious Battle, The Masterpiece, and The Long Home, as well as the pilot episode of the TV series Future Man.
3. Lauren Jauregui
One of the stunning faces and beautiful voices behind the all-girl group Fifth Harmony, Lauren Jauregui has stepped forward to proclaim and own her ethnic heritage and the fact that she belongs in the LGBTQ community. The 20-year-old singer penned a letter after news of Donald J. Trump’s election as President of the United States, writing that she is a proud, bisexual, Cuban-American woman. Her admission was greatly welcomed, and it was Lauren’s hope that Trump’s supporters would see a celebrity such as Lauren explaining that she was part of the LGBTQ community, and maybe change their mindsets. As most of us know, there are plenty of Trump supporters and advocates who are largely anti-LGBTQ (among other things), so perhaps with more celebs coming out of the closet, there will be greater room for tolerance and acceptance. Lauren wrote that Trump chooses hatred, but she thinks he should “travel and read a history book.”
2. Demi Lovato
Another young celeb who doesn’t want to have labels on her sexuality is Demi Lovato. Now, Demi has been so open and honest about her past struggles and her inner demons, such as substance abuse and addiction, as well as self-harm and an eating disorder. So when news came out that Demi wasn’t going to label herself “bisexual” or “queer” or whatever, it wasn’t too much of a surprise. Demi is one of those celebrities who is young, has staying power, and the potential to reach out to so many people…of varying ages, too. And while she can often find herself in hot water for the things that she posts on social media, she seems to have a good head on her shoulders. Plus she is in her early twenties, which is always a tough time. One thing is certain: Demi stands by her LGBTQ fans, and she wants them to know that she will always love and care for them.
1. Lily-Rose Depp
The 17-year-old daughter of actor Johnny Depp and model Vanessa Paradis is already a true beauty, and she seems to know that full well. Not even a legal adult yet, Lily Rose is a huge force on social media, and has amassed quite a following on Twitter and Instagram. As most people know, Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis split up after over a decade together, and so Lily Rose spends her time in Los Angeles as well as in Paris, France. We don’t think a teenager would complain about that! In the beginning of 2016, Lily Rose noticed that there was a new movement of people coming out of the closet or just opening up about their sexuality and preferences. Lily Rose stated that this was “so cool,” and in fact, she prefers not put a label on her sexuality either. All she said is that she falls “somewhere on the vast spectrum”, and this declaration certainly hasn’t hurt her modelling or acting career.
