There is no divine creator or big bang theory here because we know that the Marvel Universe began in the pages of comic books. Evolution occurred within Marvel in a huge way. From the funny pages, Marvel has expanded to see its characters appear on animated TV series, video games, epic motion pictures, live action television programs, as action figures, toys, costumes, pyjamas, and on so many other platforms.
Spiderman, The X-Men, Iron Man, Captain America, The Avengers, The Guardians of the Galaxy, and so many more Marvel characters have hit the big screen.
Today, Marvel has become a multi-billion-dollar juggernaut. Of all those characters, heroes and villains alike have needed actors to play them in movies. Here, we are going to focus on 15 of the actors who have played Marvel characters. Even more specifically, we have narrowed it down to 15 Marvel actors who are probably much younger than you realized. We hope you enjoy reading about these young heroes and villains.
15. Aaron Taylor-Johnson
This 26-year-old superhero starred in the Avengers: Age of Ultron. This was his first Marvel role, but not his first go-around as a superhero. Taylor-Johnson rose to stardom for his role as the title hero in the film, Kickass. He was just 19 when Kickass was released, and even younger when he shot the picture. Kickass is a kid who tries to be a vigilante superhero because he was inspired by Nicolas Cage‘s Big Daddy character and Hit-Girl, played by Chloe Grace Moretz. Moretz was 13 in that film but didn’t make it on this list since that movie was not a Marvel production. Taylor-Johnson may be a superhero, but he was defeated by a cougar. His wife is approximately 25 years his senior, which is roughly about twice his age.
14. Jaimie Alexander
At 33 years old, Jaimie Alexander is really not that young for this list. However, she got her spot for her role as Sif in 2011’s Thor and its sequel in 2013. She was just 27 when she filmed Thor. She also stars in Marvel’s weekly episodic television program, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Since 2015, she has also been a part of the cast on NBC’s Blindspot. Sif is a Norse Goddess and Asgardian Warrior who often fights battles alongside Thor. Sif has been a lover to Thor.
13. Karen Gillan
Karen Gillan is a 29-year-old Scottish model turned actor who rose to fame as Amanda Pond in the BBC’s Doctor Who. Gillan made this list for her role as Nebula in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy film. In the story, Nebula is the adopted daughter of an Intergalactic Warlord named Thanos, a sister of Gamora. Nebula served as the right hand of Ronan the Accuser during the period when Ronan and Thanos were seeking the Orb. Gillan was 25 when she filmed Guardians.
12. Tom Holland
Thomas Stanley Holland is the first of three actors on this list to portray one of the most popular Marvel superheroes, Spiderman. Holland is an English actor and dancer who first appeared as your friendly neighborhood, Spiderman, in Captain America: Civil War. Holland will be starring in his own stand-alone Spiderman film set to be released in 2017. The film, Spiderman: Homecoming, is the third time Marvel is launching a Spiderman series. It is the second reboot for that superhero franchise. This Spiderman may be old enough to fight the Vulture, but he is not old enough to participate in Miller Time since he is just 20 years old right now.
11. Elizabeth Olsen
Elizabeth Olsen, or Lizzie as she is known, has been in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Captain America: Civil War. She also had an uncredited appearance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Olsen plays the Scarlett Witch. As the witch, Olsen can manipulate probability with her mutant powers. She can deflect bullets or missiles, create force fields, and generate explosions among many other capabilities. She is a witch, so her powers are limited only by the imagination. Lizzie turned 28 in 2017.
10. Natalie Portman
Natalie Portman, the mother of Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia in the Star Wars saga, is 35 years old now and will turn 36 later in 2017. However, she wasn’t always 35. When she starred in Marvel’s first Thor film, she would have only been 29 years old. Although Star Wars was not a Marvel movie, Portman would have been around 16 or 17 when she first starred as Queen Amidala. The starlet was born in Jerusalem, Israel and also has American citizenship. Portman was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category in 2005 for her performance in Close. She won as Best Actress in a leading role for 2011’s Black Swan. She was nominated again in 2017 for her portrayal of First Lady Jackie Kennedy in Jackie.
9. Chris Hemsworth
The now 33-year-old actor, Chris Hemsworth, rose to stardom by starring in the TV series Home and Away which airs in his native land, Australia. While 33 is still young from my standpoints, Hemsworth earned his position on this list because he was 26 when he first played the role of Thor in the Marvel film of the same title. Thor is not Hemsworth’s only significant role. He has also starred in The Huntsmen movies and several reboots of successful films such as Vacation, Star Trek, and Ghostbusters. The hunky heartthrob has an equally sexy brother who is also an actor, Liam Hemsworth.
8. Chris Evans
Chris Evans is another actor who is well on his way to 40, at the current age of 35. He is nowhere near the age of Marvel’s Vulture, Michael Keaton, who is 65. Chris Evans has appeared as two different Marvel superheroes. Evans is Captain America and first took on that role in 2011 when he was 29. Chris was even younger when he played the Human Torch in Marvel’s Fantastic Four in 2005. He was 23 years old then. Evans is not the only person to play more than one superhero. Ryan Reynolds played DC Comic’s Green Lantern in 2011 at the age of 34 and first played Marvel’s Deadpool in 2009 at the age of 32.
7. Andrew Garfield
Andrew Garfield is a 33-year-old actor who was born in Los Angeles but was raised in Epsom, Surrey. Garfield is another one of those three stars we mentioned that have played Spiderman and will be featured on this list. This is because Spiderman is a young superhero whose secret identity, Peter Parker, is still in high school. Garfield, however, is the oldest young Spiderman. He was 27 when he played Spidey on screen. Garfield played Spiderman in two films and was not brought back for a third film due to personal difference and poor box office performance, which was not his fault. Rumor has it that Garfield will be back, possibly as Venom, because Andrew had a contract for more movies at the time of his release. In 2017, he was nominated for Best Actor for his role in Hacksaw Ridge.
6. Tobey Maguire
This is the third Spiderman on our list we were just talking about. While Tobey Maguire is 41 years old now, he was just 25 when he first played Spiderman. Maguire was 27 when he played Spiderman for the second time and 30 when he portrayed the web-slinger for his third and final time before being fired and replaced by Andrew Garfield. Maguire has won dozens of awards for his artistic work, but Oscar nominations from the Academy of Arts and Sciences have evaded him.
5. Jennifer Lawrence
At 26 years old, Jennifer Lawrence has been the highest paid actress in the world since 2015, when she was 24. Her films have grossed over $5 billion. Lawrence was nominated for Best Actress category three times for Winter’s Bone in 2011 at age 20, Silver Linings Playbook in 2013 at age 22, and Joy in 2016 at age 25. Lawrence won the award in 2013. She was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress in 2014 for American Hustle. Her role as Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games movies is what really did it for her. However, it is her role as Marvel’s Mystique in the X-Men films that earned her a spot on this list. She has played the mutant three times starting in 2011 when she was 20 years old.
4. Nicholas Hoult
Nicholas Hoult is a 26-year-old English-born actor who made his motion picture debut in 1996’s Intimate Relations at the tender age of six years old. Hoult was 20 years old in 2011 when he first played Hack McCoy in Marvel X-Men films. He has played Beast two more times since then. Hoult plays the younger version of Kelsey Grammer‘s hairy mutant character. Hoult also starred in the reboot of the Mad Max character.
3. Lucas Till
Lucas Till is the 26-year-old son of a United States Army Colonel. At a young age, Till realized he liked doing voices and performing to entertain others and began acting before he even reached his teens. In 2011, at the age of 20, he starred as Havok in the Marvel’s X-Men franchise. Marvel launched X-Men films that featured younger versions of their most famous mutants. This required younger actors for those parts. This is why there are several actors from those particular Marvel films on this list. While Till did not follow in his father’s footsteps in choosing a life in the armed services, there is no doubt that Lieutenant Colonel John Mark Till is proud of the success his son has found in his chosen field.
2. Laurence Belcher
Laurence Belcher just turned legal in 2016 when he reached the age of 21. He earned his spot on this list of youngsters for his portrayal of the head mutant in charge. In 2011, at the age of 15, Belcher played the younger version of Patrick Stewart‘s Professor X. The young portrayal of Charles Xavier, for Belcher, was a one-time shot. He was in X-Men: First Class. That role called for a younger looking actor as Xavier was shown at the age of 12. Belcher has starred in other movie roles since then but nothing major. He is still very young though and has his entire career ahead of him. We can expect many more projects from him in the future.
1. Morgan Lily
Morgan Lily is by far the youngest actress on this list and the only one born in the 21st Century. At just 16 years old now and turning 17 in 2017, Lily is not only unable to legally vote, she can get a full legal driver license in only 18 states. She made her acting debut in 2005 when she was five years old. Lily made this list for her role as Raven, who is also Mystique, in an X-Men film. Morgan Lily was just ten years old when she played a 10-year-old mutant in X-Men: First Class.
