It is a common misconception that when someone becomes a celebrity, he or she stays a celebrity forever. Sadly, that is not actually the case. A lot of celebrities end up being famous for a while and then their fame slowly disappears over time.
But why is that? Why does fame and popularity last for some people and not for others? Well, there are numerous reasons for this. In the case of actors, it could be that a person was suited for one role only. And when that role comes to an end, the person has to move on. Maybe he or she missed another acting opportunity. Or maybe the celebrity decided that a career in acting was not actually suitable for him or her. Perhaps they discovered that they were passionate about something else entirely, like art or writing. And of course, let’s not forget that acting is not as glamorous as it seems. It is actually a lot of hard work.
Many former child celebrities have ended up working normal, and in some cases, even boring, jobs. Of course, if you had seen these celebrities on the screen ten, twenty or even fifty years ago, you would have probably predicted that their careers would flourish. In a lot of cases, you would have been mistaken!
15. Omri Katz From Hocus Pocus Is A Hairdresser
As a child and teenager, Omri Katz starred in a number of films, short films and TV shows. He is probably best known for his role as the teenage boy Max Dennison in the 1993 film Hocus Pocus. Katz also appeared as a guest in TV shows such as Freak and Geeks, General Hospital and Dallas. In fact, Katz won a Soap Opera Digest Award in 1984 for Outstanding Youth Actor in a Prime-Time Soap Opera for Dallas.
14. Taran Noah Smith From Home Improvement Sells Vegan Cheese
Taran Noah Smith is best known for his role as the young Mark Jason Taylor on the TV sitcom Home Improvement. On the show, Smith played the youngest son of Tim and Hill Taylor. The show was a real hit in the 1990s and went on for eight seasons.
Smith started starring in the show when he was seven years old and did not finish until he was sixteen years old. Apparently, he has said that he never had a chance to really figure out what he wanted to do with his life. But Smith knew at the end of the Home Improvement that he no longer wanted to be an actor. So Smith took a short break that ended up being a permanent one. He has created his own vegan cheese and owned a restaurant.

The creepy twins from the horror film The Shining terrified everyone who watched the movie. And how could they not? Standing hand-in-hand in corridors and wearing matching frilly blue dresses they were certainly a terrifying sight to behold. Some might have predicted that the Burns sisters would go on to become huge stars in Hollywood, but life didn’t work out like that.
In fact, Lisa Burns went on to study literature and Louise Burns became a microbiologist. Of course, not many people know that as they have been hiding in obscurity. However, a couple of years ago the twins did appear at a 50th anniversary screening of Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove.
Plus, in 2015, the twins gave an interview to the Daily Mail. It was during this interview that Louise revealed that she gave up acting when she was rejected from London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
12. Frankie Muniz Is A Band Manager
Francisco Muniz IV, better known just as Frankie Muniz, rose to fame in 2000’s when he starred in the Fox TV family sitcom Malcolm in the Middle. In 2001, Muniz was nominated for the Emmy Awards and that same year went on to receive The Hollywood Reporter “Young Star Award”. Muniz also appeared in shows such as Lizzie McGuire, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, and MADtv. He also played in films such as Big Fat Liar and Stay Alive.
However, Muniz suddenly decided that starring in movies was not all that he wanted to do with his life. So he started car racing and also became the drummer for the band You Hang Up. In 2012, Muniz joined another band named Kingsfoil, and finally, in 2017, Muniz became a band manager for Astro Lasso.
11. Mara Wilson, Better Known As Matilda, Is A Novelist
Mara Wilson is best known for her role as Matilda in the 1996 film Matilda. Before she starred in the famous film, Wilson also acted in the 1993 film Mrs. Doubtfire (as Natalie Hillard) and in the 1994 film Miracle on 34th Street (as Susan Walker). Her last major film was the 2000 Thomas and the Magic Railroad.
However, Wilson always knew she wanted to be a writer and eventually stopped auditioning for roles, even when she had directors send her scripts without her even auditioning. Today, Wilson has realized her dream of being a writer – she’s an essayist and a comedy writer. Wilson has also written a piece of Cracked entitled 7 Reasons Child Stars Go Crazy which got more than four million views online and caught the attention of various publishers.
10. Jeff Cohen From The Goonies Is A Lawyer
Even today Jeff Cohen is remembered as Chunk from the 1985 Steven Spielberg’s adventure film The Goonies. Cohen also starred in the 1983 TV movie Little Shots and the 1991 TV movie Perfect Harmony. Cohen was also the voice for the student Grunt in the 1988 animated TV movie Scooby Doo and the Ghoul School.
In addition, Cohen also starred in various TV roles and worked on the business side of movie studios during the summer. In fact, the reason Cohen decided to study law was because he realized that almost all important figures on the business side of Hollywood, such as agents and studio executives, had law degrees.
9. Danny Lloyd, The Boy From The Shining, Is A Biology Teacher
Danny Lloyd is best known for his role as Danny Torrance in Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 film The Shining. It is said that Lloyd was chosen for the role thanks to his ability to concentrate, an unusual quality in young boys. After his role in The Shining, Lloyd went on to star in the 1982 TV movie Will: G. Gordon Liddy.
Unfortunately, even though he was great in his two previous roles, Lloyd was unsuccessful in landing any more roles in the film industry. So at age 14, he decided it was time to move on and live the life of a regular teen. In 2007, Lloyd became a biology professor and now teaches at a community college in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. He is also supposedly a pig farmer.

Ariana Richards is best remembered for her various roles in movies such as Prancer (1989), Tremors (1990) and Jurassic Park (1993). Richards was a successful child actor and even went on to win several Young Artist Awards.
However, as Richards grew up she realized that her true passion was art. So she went on to gaining a few fine arts degrees with a number of colleges. Nowadays, she focuses on her art career. In fact, Richards is an award winning painter! She likes to paint landscapes and figures and her painting style is said to have been inspired by the Impressionists.

Peter Ostrum is better known as Charlie Bucket from the 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. Ostrum was scouted for the role when he was in sixth grade and performing at Cleveland Play House Children’s Theatre.
Believe it or not, but Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory was the only film that Ostrum starred in. When the filming of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory came to an end, Ostrum was offered a three-film contract which he declined. Instead, he went on to become a veterinarian – in 1984 Ostrum received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. Ostrum went on to work primarily with horses and cows.
6. Jack Gleeson, The Guy Who Played Joffrey In Game Of Thrones, Maintains His Own Theater Company
The former Irish actor Jack Gleeson is best known for his role as Geoffrey, the King of Westeros, in the extremely popular TV show Game of Thrones. Gleeson began his acting when he was merely seven years old and has starred in films such as the 2002 film Reign of Fire, the 2005 film Batman Begins and the 2010 film All Good Children.
You have to admit – Jack Gleeson is a great actor. So it came as quite a shock when in 2012 Gleeson said that he wanted to retire from acting. And that that’s what he’ll do when his time is up playing Geoffrey in Game of Thrones. It seems like Gleeson has indeed retired. But he has been busy in the meantime – he finished his studies in philosophy and theology and the prestigious Trinity College Dublin and started his own theater company in Dublin.
5. Michael Schoeffling From Sixteen Candles Is Now A Carpenter
The former actor Michael Schoeffling had an incredibly brief acting career but managed to make quite an impression, especially on young girls all over the world. Schoeffling starred as the jock Jake Ryan in Sixteen Candles and as a result is still remembered to this day. However, he also starred in films such as Mermaids, Vision Quest, and Let’s Get Harry. Overall, the former actors starred in 10 films.
The incredibly good-looking former actor also modelled for magazines such as HQ and was even a medal-winning world champion wrestler. Schoeffling gave up acting not because he wanted to but because he could no longer land any roles. So he became a carpenter instead.
4. Leanna Creel Of Saved By The Bell Is A Photographer
Leanna Creel is an identical triplet and has appeared alongside her sisters in movies such as The Wonderful World of Disney: Parent Trap III and Parent Trap: Hawaiian Honeymoon. Creel also starred as a guest in TV shows such as Beverly Hills and 90210. Shortly after, she got the role as Tori in Saved by the Bell.
Creel continued starring as a guest in several other TV shows and then went on to study history and then film and television. In 1998 Creel founded her own production company, Ignite Entertainment. At the moment she runs Creel studio – a studio that specializes in travel, food and lifestyle content. Plus, she is a photographer.
3. Charles Korsmo Is A Professor Of Law
Charles Korsmo is probably best known for his role as Peter’s Pan’s (Robin Williams’) son in the 1991 hit film Hook. He also starred in films such as Dick Tracy, What About Bob and Can’t Hardly Wait. Can’t Hardly Wait, which was released in 1988, was the last film Korsmo starred in. He was 20 years old at the time he decided to quit acting.
After high school, Korsmo went to Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he studied physics. Rumor has it that after graduating college Korsmo went on to work for the United States federal government on missile defence, but that doesn’t seem to be true. Korsmo did however work for the Environmental Protection Agency and for the Republican Party. He later went on to study law at Yale and is currently a law professor.
2. Lark Voohries Of Saved By The Bell Is Now A Writer
Lark Voohries began acting when she was just two years old. However, she was rather shy on camera and so her mother put her career as an actress on hold. When Voohries was 14 years old she starred in one episode of the TV show Small Wonder. Then, she landed one of her biggest roles – Lisa Turtle in the Disney Channel’s TV series Good Morning, Miss Bliss. Disney eventually dropped the TV show but it was picked up by NBC and was renamed Saved by the Bell. Voohries and her other co-actors continued starring in the re-named show.
1. Kevin Jonas Is Now A Co-CEO Of A Marketing Company
It was in 2007 that the Jonas Brothers became an extremely popular band. The Jonas Brothers consisted of three brothers – Nick Jonas, Joe Jonas and Kevin Jonas. Before long they were a hit boy band, had recorded four albums that sold 20,000 copies and were even nominated for a Grammy. But in 2013, the band was disbanded.
The three brothers went their separate ways – Joe recorded his own album, Nick joined broadway and Kevin went on to star in his own TV show! But then things got tough and Kevin decided to become a building contractor. But not for long. Now Jonas’ is the co-CEO of a marketing company – The Blu Market – and also has a partnership with the We Heart It website.
