Not all friendships last forever. Even the strongest of bromances and the tightest of gal pals can go their separate ways at some point. Obviously, some friends are for life, but we can't expect that every partnership is like that. Things change, as do people. We get older; our situations evolve. Sh*t, as they say, happens. Maybe it's a new spouse or a new friend that comes in between one-time best friends or maybe it's words. This kind of thing happens all the time, and in normal life, no one cares except for the people involved. But this is Hollywood. Everyone gets a say on the relationships in Hollywood. If we see two celebs hanging out a lot and then, all of a sudden, they aren't anymore, we have to ask questions. We need to know what happened.

So, what type of friendships are we looking at when we say "Hollywood" friendships? Well, we could fill an entire list with the crap that goes on between celebrity socialites, like the nincompoop Kardashian clan, but we won't. We might give one entry to those drama queens to appease the masses, but they go through friends like they do underwear. We want to talk about actors mainly if we can. Actors are more interesting because they don’t necessarily profit off of family drama. Well, not as much at least. So let's take a look at 15 famous Hollywood friendships that were irreparably shattered.

15. John Cusack and Jeremy Piven

via New York Daily News

In the early days of John Cusack's career, there were two constants in nearly every one of his films. One was his sister, Joan, and the other was his best buddy, Jeremy Piven. These two guys were inseparable. When asked about where it all started for them, Piven said, “We met when we were kids at my parents’ theater and my parents were doing The Seagull. We took turns playing the child and we were friends ever since. And Joan is such an angel. I have a lot of history with the Cusacks.” Then, after Piven landed the role of Ari Gold in Entourage, the two stopped being seen in public together. Piven was asked if they were even friends anymore, to which he responded, "No comment. I mean, you could fill in the blank, I bet." So, what happened? It's a bit unclear, but Piven did say, "It just says so much about a person if he has space for other people’s success."

14. Winona Ryder and Gwyneth Paltrow

via New York Daily News

Way back in the mid-to-late 90s, Gwyneth Paltrow and Winona Ryder were best pals. They lived together; they dated best friends Ben Affleck and Matt Damon; it was magical. But then they stopped talking. Rumors of Paltrow stealing the part in Shakespeare in Love from Ryder came out, but who knows for sure? To hear it from Paltrow, it was Ryder who did wrong by her, but Paltrow says a lot of whacko things, so we don't believe a word of it. See what you think. "Back in the day, I had a 'frenemy,'" she said of Ryder, though she never specifically named her. "Who, as it turned out, was pretty hellbent on taking me down. This person really did what they could to hurt me. I was deeply upset, I was angry, I was all of those things you feel when you find out that someone you thought you liked was venomous and dangerous." In case you missed it, this sneaky devil Paltrow has set herself up as the victim, but there's more. She continued, "I restrained myself from fighting back. I tried to take the high road. But one day I heard that something unfortunate and humiliating had happened to this person. And my reaction was deep relief and happiness." What Paltrow has done here is establish trust with the reader by lightly criticizing herself. As readers, we say, she must be telling the truth about being wronged because she's judging her poor reaction to Winona's shoplifting arrest. That must also mean that she really was the victim in the first place. We don't buy it Gwen. Maybe Winona just got sick of how pretentious you are.

13. Nina Dobrev and Nikki Reed

via PopSugar

When Nina Dobrev was dating her Vampire Diaries co-star Ian Somerhalder, the world was right. Flowers smelled a little nicer; the sky was a little bluer. No, enough. Stop. We can't keep this charade up. To be quite honest, we didn't care one bit. Well, this happy couple had a friend who did care. Nikki Reed. Reed may have been Dobrev's friend on the surface, but, underneath, she was like a hungry lioness, biding her time, waiting to pounce on Somerhalder the moment she spotted weakness in the couple. Weakness did come. Like 99% of Hollywood couples, Dobrev and Somerhalder split. Sure, Reed stayed close to her friend for a little while pretending to be her bestie, but she was secretly trying to hook up with Somerhalder, and hook up with him she did. Now they're married and Dobrev wasn't even invited to the wedding.

12. Jennifer Aniston and Male "Friends" Cast

via Vanity Fair

During the filming of Friends, the cast always seemed so family like and loving, but now that the show's off the air, things have changed a little bit. This became painfully obvious for the male members of the cast, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer, when none of them were invited to Jennifer Aniston's wedding to Justin Theroux. When they were asked about the wedding, Perry said “I was surprised. I didn’t know about it.” At least LeBlanc knew about the wedding, but he said "If she wanted me there, I would have been there." And Schwimmer won't even make a comment about it, which means that he's probably the angriest of the bunch.

11. Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton

via Celebsvenue.com

Sorry, we promise that this one entry is the only one that involves Paris Hilton. Years ago, when Paris and Nicole Richie were famous, people cared about their lives. Or, at least, they watched their simple lives play out on The Simple Life. These two called each other besties and they were close. There's no doubt. Then something happened. They broke up. “It’s no big secret that Nicole and I are no longer friends,” said Hilton. “Nicole knows what she did, and that’s all I’m ever going to say about it.” Even though Richie says she has a complex understanding of friendship, so she'll always be friends with Paris, it's safe to say that Paris doesn't have a complex understanding of anything, so she certainly won't be considering Richie her friend.

10. Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis

The news outlets and gossip columns went wild when Sylvester Stallone took to Twitter to call Bruce Willis "Greedy and Lazy" after the Die Hard star backed out of The Expendables 3. Though Willis' name was never explicitly used, it was obvious who the Tweet was directed to. Later, when Sly was asked if his relationship with Willis was done, he said, "This is just a matter of economics. Bruce has been a lifelong friend. I still consider him a friend, at least on my side. This is something that came out of frustration, but it also turned out okay." Since then, the two action legends have apparently moved on from their beef, but don't be surprised if we never see them in a film together again.

9. Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag

If you ever watch Laguna Beach or The Hills, you might remember Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag and their beautiful friendship that ended in flames. The reasons why they fell off vary depending on who you ask, but the narrative on The Hills was that Heidi Montag and her dweeby partner, Spencer Pratt, started a rumor about Conrad and a potential sex tape. This all led to a confrontation between the two at a nightclub and had Lauren yell the now-infamous line, "You know what you did!" Well, years later, no one cares about these two anymore, but it certainly was big news at the time.

8. Jay Leno and David Letterman

via New York Post

For years and years, there was a well-known feud between late night competitors Jay Leno and David Letterman. It apparently started back when Letterman was supposed to get the Johnny Carson show, but Leno got it instead. Now, some say that this feud was fabricated as a publicity stunt, but they've both said some harsh things about the other. When Letterman went on Oprah, he was asked about their relationship. "Jay and I were friends -- we were always friends, before all of this happened," he said, "I've never met anyone quite like Jay. And I will say, and I'm happy to say, I think he's the funniest guy I've ever known," Letterman added. "Just flat out. If you go and see him do his nightclub act -- just the funniest, the smartest, wonderful observationist and very appealing as a comic. Therefore, the fact that he is maybe the most insecure person I have ever known -- I could never reconcile that."

7. Jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise

via www.etonline.com

Back in 2004, Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx got together and filmed Collateral. Over the years, the two stayed close friends, even as Cruise and Katie Holmes started dating, got married and had a kid. Then in 2012, Cruise and Holmes split. The year after, rumors started up that Foxx and Holmes were dating, which couldn't have rubbed Cruise the right way. Both Holmes and Foxx denied all reports of a relationship, even though new photos and allegations were constantly popping up. Now we're hearing that the only reason they kept their relationship secret was because there was a no-dating contract in the Cruise and Holmes' divorce agreement. Weird, right? Well, word has it that Cruise has lifted that clause because he wants them to be happy. While Cruise may be playing the good guy at this point, don't expect him and Foxx to rekindle their friendship anytime soon.

6. Tiffani Thiessen and Jennie Garth

via MyLikeSpot

For a time, stars of Beverly Hills, 90210, Tiffany Thiessen and Jennie Garth were the best of friends. They were two of the hottest celebrities walking and were on one of the biggest shows on television, but then they stopped talking suddenly. Thiessen explained the rift between the two on The Howard Stern Show, saying, "It's funny, our relationship started really rough and ended the way it started." She went on to say that, at first, the girls on the cast "were not very nice to me." Stern prodded for her to go into more detail, but Thiessen didn't reveal much, only stating, "We had a falling out and we grew apart… I was the one who was hurt, let's just say that. I was the one who was hurt."

5. Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan

via For The Win

There were some sour faces around Live with Kelly and Michael when co-host Michael Strahan left the show. In May 2016, Strahan left Kelly Ripa alone on the show and there was substantial backlash, including comments from Ripa about respect in the workplace. Well, Strahan has come out and talked about the fallout, saying, "The most disappointing thing to me was that I was painted as the bad guy, because I value the way I carry myself... I don't want people to see me as 'Oh, he just ran out, just left them there.' That's just not true." When asked about the relationship between the two, Strahan said, “At one point I think we were friends. I don’t know what happened at the end.” Well, whatever happened, the tension between the two was palpable on set for a while, so many people saw the writing on the wall.

4. Nicolas Cage and Sean Penn

via watchmoviestv.net

Nicolas Cage and Sean Penn broke into the industry together. They did Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Racing with the Moon together, and they were best buds all around town, but then they grew apart. It wasn't until Cage started doing major blockbuster films that either of the two made a comment about the other though, and it was Penn who drew first blood. After Cage released consecutive action films in the late 90s, Penn said, "Nic Cage is no longer an actor. He's more like a performer." Now, these words were wrongly twisted into Penn suggesting that Cage was a sellout, but still, the words were critical no matter what way you look at them. Cage responded to Penn later, saying, "He's paying a little too much attention to my career, I think. I'm not thinking too much about what he's doing, you know… He said that I wasn't an actor and I can't agree with that."

3. Daniel Craig and Jude Law

via My New Plaid Pants

After Jude Law was caught cheating on Sienna Miller with their nanny, another cheating scandal broke out. Miller got even. She started up an affair with their mutual friend Daniel Craig, and the whole thing revealed when a reporter from the News of the World tabloid hacked the actors' voicemails. When news of the affair leaked, Law called up his buddy on the phone and blasted him. In the subsequent hacking court case against the tabloid, Law was asked about the phone conversation with Craig, and he responded, "We had known each other many, many years… So the conversation took on all sorts of turns." We don’t know when Craig and Law first became friends, but the three, including Miller, have been seen hanging out together for years. Craig and Law filmed Road to Perdition together as well. We bet they aren't too chummy anymore.

2. Ben Affleck and Kevin Smith

via Page Six

Everyone knows that Ben Affleck's first love is Matt Damon, but for a long time, Kevin Smith was part of their troupe. They all used to hang out and collaborated on several films beginning in the mid 90s. But then, as Smith tells it, Affleck got together with Jennifer Garner and things changed. When he was asked about Affleck, Smith said, "Great question. I don’t know, because we're not f---ing tight, have not been in decades." Smith went on to talk about Garner, saying, "That's old Ben. He's got a wife that don't care for me at all. And plus, honestly, he probably don't care for me at all anymore. He's a triple-A-list movie star and s--t like that. If he's Jimmy Carter, I'm Billy Carter, to put it in '70s terms. And I'm not even related and s--t."

1. Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner

via Huffington Post

Even though they started out rough, William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy become long-lasting friends. The two had a relationship that spanned multiple decades and they shared in each other's incredible journey through both the stars and stardom. But, sadly, for some time at the end of Nimoy's life, the two stopped talking. As Shatner tells it, he had reached out to Nimoy to see if he would do a show with him, but Nimoy said no. From there it sort of just spiralled out of control. "I don't know," said Shatner. "I thought he was joking at first and treated it as a joke because he sometimes would pretend and say, 'No, I'm not going to do that' and then say, 'yes,' so that's what I thought he did. But that time he really meant, no… I just don't know, and it is sad and it is permanent. I don't know why he stopped talking to me." Well isn’t just the saddest thing you read all day?
