Chrissy Teigen is known for being a celebrity wife who is a social media maven who doesn’t shy away from controversy. But when you get to know the sexy vixen, she’s more than just a beautiful face and alluring body. Unlike other models who have a string of famous men in their back pockets, Chrissy has only been publicly linked to the one musician who became her husband, and the two have played out their romance with almost unprecedented honesty, allowing fans and foes to get red hot details of what goes on in their bedroom.
Even though she’s built her career as a swimsuit model who isn’t ashamed to show off her body, Chrissy has shaped her public persona as being an author, chef, and force to be reckoned with. She readily admits that her favorite word is the “f bomb” and won’t let her wealth or being in the spotlight silence her. She’s come a long way from growing up in a modest household to now living in the lap of luxury in her Beverly Hills mansion, but don’t let that fool you. There’s a reason that Spike TV, whom she now works for on Lip Sync Battle with LL Cool J, voted her “Our New Girlfriend” back in 2012. She’s either the best friend you never had but always wished for or the girlfriend you can get drunk with while playing video games and can’t wait to go to bed with. Chrissy is a new type of celebrity wife, and that’s something that’s way overdue in an industry where ladies sometimes stand behind their famous husbands.
15. She Loves A Good Twitter Fight
If you haven’t checked out Chrissy’s Twitter feed, you’re missing out on free, quality entertainment. Over the years she’s learned to bite her tongue, but Chrissy isn’t a celebrity who has a problem with letting any- and everyone know how she feels. Her life with husband John Legend is constantly being scrutinized and analyzed under a microscope, so when strangers come to her with negative comments, she doesn’t hesitate to set them straight — whether they’re a fellow celebrity, a fan, or just a random troll on social media looking to start a fight.
Just a few of her most notable Twitter arguments have started because she tweeted negative comments about or to people such as Donald Trump because he said meeting with black pastors wasn’t a press event, Chris Brown for lip-synching during his 2012 Billboard Music Awards performance, Piers Morgan for making crude comments regarding the death of Muhammad Ali, Arrow actress Katie Cassidy for trash-talking Chrissy’s friend Erin Andrews, and Floyd Mayweather when she tweeted that she hoped he’d get eaten by his pet tiger.
14. Her Resume Is Stacked
It’s mind-blowing to think there are still people out there that think of Chrissy as just John Legend’s arm candy, but she’s been building her career since before they were together. Back in 2004 she was an IGN Babe and later modeled for the show Deal or No Deal from 2006-2007. She’s been featured in dozens of modeling campaigns for companies such as Skullcandy, XOXO, Billabong, Gillette Venus, Nike, Nine West, and Beach Bunny Swimwear. She’s made appearances on America’s Next Top Model and Watch What Happens Live, and covered magazines like Sports Illustrated (she was featured in the magazine from 2011-2014), Ocean’s Drive, and Cosmopolitan.
She also co-hosted the 2015 Billboard Music Awards with rapper Ludacris and has worked alongside LL Cool J as the co-host of Lip Sync Battle on Spike TV. Include her editorial spreads in magazines and her writing for her cooking blog and it’s safe to say that Chrissy has a career outside of her singing beau that continues to climb.
13. She’s Of Mixed Heritage
Born on November 30, 1985 to a Thai mother and a father of Norwegian descent, Christine Diane Teigen’s looks have always stopped people in their paths. She was born in Delta, Utah where her father supported the family by working as an electrician, but the family often moved to new locations. They lived in Idaho, Washington, and Hawaii before they made their way to Huntington Beach, California when Chrissy was a teenager. She got a job working at a surf shop and when she was 18-years-old, a photographer came in and wanted to use her as a model. Posing for the camera wasn’t her first choice as a career; as she told The Daily Beast she “always wanted to be a teacher or wanted to do something with food.” She didn’t think she had the chops to be a successful model because, to her, she wasn’t tall or skinny enough, but she tried it out anyway.
12. She’s A Secret Chef
Many people aren’t aware that Chrissy attended a condensed culinary program at a French Institute where she honed her skills as a chef. Since she was a young girl she always had an affinity for cooking, so she wasn’t going to let something as little as a booming modeling career derail her from her first love. In an interview with Fashion Etc., she said that when it comes to being in the kitchen, she wants people to take her seriously. “I want to be credible in the food world. I don’t ever want to pretend like I’m a chef of any sort but I want to learn the basics and really get it down.”
Not only does she update her food blog, SoDelushious.com, with tasty recipes for readers, but she also released her first cookbook, Cravings. She’s been featured on the Cooking Channel with her own special called Chrissy Teigen’s Hungry, but she still loves to go out and have others cook for her. In a Reddit AMA, she told readers that her favorite meal is lasagna verdi from Frank’s Restaurant in New York City.
11. She Doesn’t Work Out
Models are able to keep their enviable, slim physiques by hitting the gym multiple times a week for hours a session, but that’s not the way Chrissy likes to live. She told Reddit users that the only time she likes to break a sweat in the gym is shortly before a photo shoot. “I work out very hard for a very brief period of time before a shoot,” she said. “Maybe a week before, and then never again until the next one.” She admits to not condoning this for others, but she just wanted to be honest with people.
The beauty isn’t a big fan of Photoshop either. She’s been open with sharing what people consider to be imperfections such as posting photos of her stretchmarks to Snapchat. “Sports Illustrated does extremely minimal retouching. Other publications however….phew. They do a lot,” she divulged. “I’ve watched myself be photoshopped before. It. Is. The. Worst.”
10. She Admits She Doesn’t Have A Butt
She’s a hot-bodied swimsuit model, but no matter what Chrissy Teigen tries to do, the model admits that she can’t get her rear-end to round out. She told MTV, “I would love a big butt. I just can’t seem to get there.”
She was featured in Esquire magazine’s September 2014 issue where she told them that she didn’t even know that butts were seen as attractive until a certain singer’s behind started getting attention. “I didn’t know butts were a thing until I was twenty-three. Then came Jennifer Lopez and people were like, ‘That butt is great.’ Now you have to have a butt. It sucks for me,” she said. “I have a little half-Asian butt, and the more I work out, the more I try to get it bigger, it’s just going to get flatter and harder.”
9. She Loves Her Free Swag
Because she’ll forever and always be invited to Sports Illustrated parties, Chrissy said that the gift bags always include the hottest bikinis. For fans hoping to snag a free bathing suit once owned by Chrissy Teigen, cross your fingers because it just might happen. “I have drawers and drawers of them. I should have a giveaway,” she told Reddit during her AMA. Female readers encouraged the suggestion, while a few male readers took the opportunity to, let’s say, throw out a few inappropriate panty jokes.
8. She Throws Pitches Better Than Male Celebs
Celebrities are often asked to visit baseball games to throw the first pitch, and over the years we’ve seen some pretty embarrassing fails caught on camera. Mariah Carey, 50 Cent, Carly Rae Jepsen, and even President Obama have stepped up to the mound and thrown pitches that have gone down in history as some of the worst, but Chrissy impressed the baseball community back in 2014 when she was invited to a Los Angeles Dodgers game.
The Dodgers were going up against the L.A. Angels so it was already set up to be an exciting game. Before throwing the first pitch she grabbed the microphone and hyped the crowd at Dodgers Stadium- Chrissy tweeted that she was “pretty drunk.” The ball went over the plate, which is more than we can say for the others, so she can give a few pointers to her celebrity friends in the future. Maybe they should try a few shots beforehand?
7. She Loves Kimye
Famous couples love hanging out with one another, and besides Jay Z and Beyoncé, there aren’t many others that are a top billed married couple like Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. Chrissy and John Legend love hanging out with Kimye whenever they can, posing for photos when they run into each other at the same high profile, A-list events or award shows.
However, the Legend’s friendship with the Wests go far beyond the red carpet, as was proven when the foursome double dated at the Waffle House. They were a tad overdressed for the casual get together, but it was only because they hit up the restaurant the night before the Super Bowl in Phoenix because Kanye performed with Rihanna at her DirectTV’s Super Saturday Night event. Both Chrissy and Kim posted photos of them waiting for their grub and while everyone else was camera ready, Kanye gave his regular “I-don’t-smile-for-the-cameras” mean faced look.
6. She And John Legend First Met On Set
A model and musician meet on the set of one of his music videos and fall in love? That reads like a typical Hollywood fairy tale romance, but that’s precisely how Chrissy snagged her husband. Back in 2006 Chrissy was cast to be John’s love interested for his video “Stereo.” They met before the shoot when she dropped by his dressing room to introduce herself. There, she says she found him preparing for the shoot by ironing his underwear. “I said, ‘You do your own ironing!?’ He said, ‘Of course I do.’ I gave him a hug,” she recalls.
According to John, their romance wasn’t love at first sight. He told Los Angeles Confidential magazine that while he did find Chrissy attractive, he’s not one to wear his heart on his sleeve and it took years for him to see her as being his partner for life. “I’m more cautious than that,” he said. “I wasn’t like, ‘This is the woman I’m going to marry’ from day one. For me I’m the kind of person who needs to grow into that feeling. It was probably a couple of years in when I could already see us being together forever.”
5. She Hooked Up With John The First Night They Met
Their relationship may not have been love at first sight, but there was certainly lust at first meeting. After being on set for 14 hours shooting his “Stereo” video, John and Chrissy went back to his hotel room for a nightcap — that is, if by “nightcap” you mean chowing down on burgers. Opening up to Cosmopolitan about that evening, Chrissy admitted that she and the “All Of Me” singer got down and dirty. “I’m not going to lie. We hooked up.”
Yet, that wasn’t the beginning of their relationship. It wasn’t until the following year that the two officially became a couple. “I let him be himself for a while. The worst thing you can do is try to lock someone like that down early on, then have them think, ‘There’s so much more out there.’ I played it cool for a long time. Never once did I ask, ‘What are we?’ Marriage was never my goal, because I’ve never been very traditional. I was just happy to be with him.”
4. She’s A Member Of The Mile High Club
Chrissy says that she is a certified, card carrying member of the Mile High Club, and she has John to thank for that. The model is never shy about sharing intimate details regarding her relationship with John, as she revealed that they have had sex on a plane — twice.
One of their raunchy romps happened in view of other passengers. “We were on our way to Thailand to see my parents, flying commercial first-class,” Chrissy recalled. “We were under a blanket. We weren’t even in one of those pod things. I feel like we should get a trophy for that.”
Their relationship does have a sappy, sweet, loving side, as well. John wrote his mega-hit track “All Of Me” about his adoration for Chrissy. “The first line of it is, ‘What would I do without your smart mouth,’ so if that’s not about me I don’t know what is,” Crissy said. John said when he played it for her, Chrissy couldn’t help but become overwhelmed with emotion: “She loved the song and cried when she heard it.”
3. She Loves Fast Food
She doesn’t work out and loves fast food, but somehow keeps her body beach ready at all times. Her fellow models might be feasting on meals of air and water, but Chrissy isn’t the type of woman who will deny herself a greasy burger. Her favorite fast food meal? Well, she says she’s obsessed with Taco Bell and will make a quick run to McDonald’s if she’s hungry on the road. If she’s had too much to drink after a night out partying, she says there’s one place that can take care of her munchie cravings: “If I’m drunk, I love a little White Castle.”
The Vanity Fair post-Oscars party is the go-to event following the Academy Awards. Their parties are always filled with the richest, most famous, and most glamorous faces in entertainment, and while celebrities were dressed in designed duds, sipping fancy cocktails and rubbing elbows with the elite, Chrissy was snapped back in 2015 by Vanity Fair photographers grubbing down on a burger.
2. The Couple Had A Star-Studded Wedding
You know you’re having the wedding of the year when Stevie Wonder sings his classic “Ribbons in the Sky” at your reception.
John dropped to one knee and asked Chrissy to marry him in 2001 while they were vacationing in the Maldives, and in 2013 they exchanged vows in Lake Como, Italy, where they had their first vacation as a couple. Kanye West was in attendance, and rapper Biz Markie played DJ for the event. Chrissy had three wardrobe changes, all of which were couture gowns by Vera Wang especially for her big day, which isn’t surprising, and John serenaded his new bride by singing “All Of Me,” bringing everyone to tears.
It wasn’t just her newlywed husband’s voice that caused Chrissy to cry. She said that it was also Beyoncé that made her tear up as well, even though the pop star didn’t attend the wedding. At the reception Bey’s song “Love On Top” was played and Chrissy said she didn’t know how deep her love for Beyoncé went until that particular song played at that specific moment, because it summed up her feelings for John in the fiercest way.
1. She Became A Mom This Year
The beginning of 2016 started a new chapter in Chrissy’s life as she became a mom for the first time, but critics didn’t waste any time letting her know that she was doing motherhood incorrectly. She gave birth to her daughter, Luna, in April, and two weeks later photos surfaced of her and John exiting a restaurant after a date night. The photos circulated on social media and people were appalled that a mother with a newborn child would leave her baby at home to gallivant around town.
John came to the defense of his wife by tweeting, “Funny there’s no dad-shaming. When both of us go out to dinner, shame both of us so Chrissy doesn’t have to take it all. We’ll split it.” Chrissy later said, “I knew mommy-shaming was a thing, but I didn’t think it would come from going to dinner.”
It didn’t stop there as Chrissy found herself on the receiving end of complaints that she wasn’t holding her baby daughter safely after paparazzi photos hit the internet. People began tweeting the photo with the caption, “This isn’t how a baby is held!” to which she replied, “Really because that’s how I’m f–king holding her.”
Chrissy also defended actress Kristin Cavallari who, after posting photos of her young sons at the beach, was told by the public that her children were underweight. She tweeted: “I will never know why parents criticize others so harshly, knowing they’d go insane if they were on the receiving end ALLTHETIME. NO parent out there thinks they’re perfect. I loathe these sh**head commenters. Who would want to make someone feel horrible for fun?”
