A lot of celebrities think that just because they have millions of fans and followers on social media, they can do and say whatever they want without consequence. Unfortunately though, a lot of things they end up saying not only sound utterly ridiculous, but also make us wish that they would just STFU.
Not every actress is a lifestyle or parenting expert and not every chart-topping singer should add their thoughts about world events and politics. The two just don’t go together. But that hasn’t stopped outspoken celebs like Madonna trying to govern the role with her peace, love and light emojis on Instagram or her former BFF Gwyneth Paltrow encouraging her Goop readers to buy a pair of $450 denim shorts and book their next enema appointment STAT. And then you’ve got people like Sarah Jessica Parker comparing nasty diapers to the smell of freshly baked cookies out of the oven or Megan Fox whining and complaining about all of the bullying she’s endured while logging on to social media from the comfort of her multi-million dollar Hollywood mansion.
Here are 15 female celebrities that just need to do what they do best, and that’s either act, sing or simply sit pretty. In other words, they just need to shut their mouths.
15. Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton was born with a silver spoon in her mouth, but she wants you to know that she “worked” her way to the top. No kidding. But the worst thing she’s probably said in recently is that she basically invented everything in 2017, including the selfie.
She explained to W Magazine in an interview, “If a beeper had a camera, I would have taken a selfie with it. I think I have a selfie from when I was a little kid, like on a disposable camera.” Sure, Paris. If it weren’t for you, millions of girls from all around the world wouldn’t be looking like the ridiculously vain people they are whenever they take a selfie in public, or worse, in the middle of traffic. You can take them back now, Paris. Please stop talking.
14. Megan Fox
Megan Fox has made millions of dollars for her movie roles, her multiple endorsement deals, and occasional paid product campaigns. She’s also one of the most recognizable faces and names in Hollywood. But despite her wealth and her status, Megan says that she’s bullied everyday by millions of people from all around the world because of her fame.
But nothing compares to what Megan said in her infamous 2013 Esquire interview. One highlight included, “”I have seen magical, crazy things happen. I’ve seen people be healed. Even now, in the church I go to, during Praise and Worship I could feel that I was maybe getting ready to speak in tongues, and I’d have to shut it off because I don’t know what that church would do if I started screaming out in tongues in the back.” We like to look at you, Megan, but listening to you talk is giving us a headache.
13. Amy Schumer
Amy Schumer has said everything from, “I made out with a homeless guy by accident. I had no idea – he was really tan, he had no shoes on,” to “It’s work having a vag*na. Guys don’t think that it’s work but it is. Every night it’s like getting it ready for its first Quinceanera, believe me.” She loves to stay stupid stuff all the time. But it’s her comments about the Kardashians that have everyone rolling their eyes.
She once said, “A whole family who take the faces they were born with as a light suggestion? No!” This coming from the same person who often likes to poke fun of her own body image in a self-degrading way for a few laughs. She’s also been accused of stealing jokes from other comedians. Sorry, Amy, but you can’t be funny if you are unable to produce any original thoughts of your own.
12. Ronda Rousey
Ronda Rousey has said that whatever men can do, women can do better. Yet no one has ever explained to Ronda that women shouldn’t try and emulate men, especially when it comes to domestic violence.
In her book, My Fight, Your Fight, Ronda admitted to beating up her boyfriend and slapping him so hard across the face that her hand hurt. This was after she found out that he took pictures of her without her consent. Ronda wrote that she “punched him in the face with a straight right, then a left hook,” and then “grabbed him by the neck of his hoodie, kneed him in the face” before throwing him on the kitchen floor. Seriously? And she’s proud of this, despite the fact that domestic violence is a real problem in our country.
11. Amber Rose
Amber Rose has managed to make being promiscuous her thing. As a matter of fact, she’s organized walks and rallies around it, has championed for a woman’s right to sleep with who ever she wants, whenever she wants, and has even worn a cape in public to indicate that she is a hero for this. And many of Amber’s fans are simply over it.
But Amber’s worst quote of all is when she described just how she likes to brush off her haters: “We’re painting a picture of what everybody says about us. They call us sl*ts and wh*res all the time, so we just embrace it.” She then went on to say that she had the word splayed over a very private part of her body. TMI, Amber. Way too much information there. But then again, it’s her job these days to speak her mind, considering that she’s not doing much else these days.
10. Lena Dunham
Lena Dunham has said so many controversial things that, at this point, it wouldn’t be surprising if her own family members wanted her to just go away already. When Lena gains weight, she’ll slam you for talking about her. But when she loses weight, she’ll slam you even more for talking about her body size. She also got into a heap of trouble when she admitted to s*xually abusing her sister when they were children.
But it was her quote about how to fight gun violence that got her to the list of Most Stupid Celebs Ever. She suggested to her fans that the best way to solve America’s gun violence problem was to vandalize Jason Bourne movie posters. When producer Tami Sagher made the suggestion on Instagram, Lena shared the post and added, “Good idea, let’s go!” Facepalm.
9. Chelsea Handler
Chelsea Handler is one comedian who dares to say whatever is on her mind, regardless of what consequences she might face later on. But she failed to get any laughs during a very heated Twitter war with Nick Cannon back in 2011. Things went from bad to worse when she posted a stereotypical pic of a can of grape soda and asked Nick to drink it. Fans called her out right away for being both nasty and racist.
She also famously said, “Whenever I’m around kids, it’s always a reminder not to have them.” She has said countless comments in bad taste. Chelsea, just stop already. The more controversial she tries to be, the more pathetic her jokes sound.
Madonna is one of the first celebrities to comment on a breaking news event or tragedy on social media. And just like her chart topping counterpart Cher, most of her online ramblings are incoherent. It’s no secret that Madonna loves to be one of the most outspoken celebrities in the entertainment world, but at the same time, she is in some serious need of a social media editor, and a filter, for that matter.
Madonna’s most cringe-worthy quote was when she allegedly threatened to “blow up the White House” during what was supposed to be a peaceful Women’s March on Washington earlier this year. “Yes, I’m angry,” she said, adding “Yes, I’m outraged. Yes, I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House.” Oh shut up, Madge. No one is taking you seriously anymore.
7. Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth Paltrow began her lifestyle site, Goop, as a way to connect with her fans several years ago. The only problem is that she’s managed to garner more criticism than praise for her efforts, especially considering that a lot of her items on her “must have” list are well above the average woman’s budget.
But Gwyneth’s most pretentious quote was when she burned fellow actress Reese Witherspoon for doing romcoms. She said, “Even actresses that you really admire, like Reese Witherspoon, you think, ‘Another romantic comedy?’ You see her in something like Walk the Line and think, ‘God, you’re so great!’ And then you think, ‘Why is she doing these stupid romantic comedies?’ But of course, it’s for money and status.” Ouch. It’s no wonder Gwyneth has a hard time keeping a good circle of friends in Hollywood.
6. Bethenny Frankel
As a cast member of Bravo’s hit The Real Housewives of New York, Bethenny Frankel is used to saying things out loud that will most likely get her in trouble. She’s called out her co-stars for questionable behavior, cat fights, and of course, backstabbing. But it’s Bethenny Frankel’s own opinions and comments that have gotten her into lots of trouble.
Back in 2014, Bethenny famously wore her then 4-year-old daughter’s pyjamas just to prove that she can indeed fit in them. Instead of apologizing, she responded to the criticism by tweeting rather sarcastically, “BREAKING NEWS! World Scandal: Former reality star, failed talk show host & cocktail maven jokes by wearing her kids’ pjs! #itcantbetrue.” Clearly, Bethenny Frankel loves to dish it out, but she can’t take it.
5. Tess Holliday
Tess Holliday’s claim to fame is being the world’s first plus-sized supermodel. While there’s no doubting that Tess is a very beautiful woman, a lot of people think that she might be doing her fans a disservice by promoting obesity. Back in 2015, she was even slammed for trying to normalize obesity.
Tess was heavily criticized for saying that you can be a Size 26 and still be healthy. During an interview on British television, Tess explained, “I will agree to disagree because I do believe health is not an indicator of size. Our bodies are our business, if I am unhealthy in 20 years that is my business. I guess I should be flattered people around the world are worried about my health, but I am happy and healthy.”
4. Fran Drescher
Fran Drescher might still be America’s favorite nanny, but she’s managed to say some very bizarre things in the past. As a matter of fact, the Hollywood actress once made a claim that aliens have managed to program human beings to think. No word if that comment came from her or an actual alien.
In 2012, Fran made headlines when she told reporters that she believes she was abducted by aliens and that they had implanted her with a special chip. She told a Gossip columnist, “You know, it’s funny because Peter [Fran’s ex-husband] and I both saw [aliens] before we knew each other, doing the same thing, driving on the road with our dads. I think that somehow we were programmed to meet. We both have this scar. It’s the exact same scar on the exact same spot.” And she was dead serious about this, too. What a weirdo.
3. Sarah Jessica Parker
When Sarah Jessica Parker has something to say, there’s a good chance that a lot of people will simply tune out or just leave the room. The former Sex and the City star once compared the smell of diapers to that of home baked goods. No one could understand if Sarah Jessica was being sarcastic or if she was being serious. Turns out that she was dead serious.
She said back in 2009, “I love the smell of diapers; I even like when they’re wet and you smell them all warm liked a baked good. Love it.” Okay, hopefully she means clean, unused diapers and not the blowout kind. Who admits to smelling diapers during their free time? Either way, this has got to be the most bizarre quote from a celebrity ever.
2. Kelly Osbourne
As host of E!’s now defunct Fashion Police, Kelly Osbourne showed the world just how outspoken and opinionated she could be. She definitely didn’t hold back when it came to critiquing her fellow celebs and their questionable fashion choices. But Kelly managed to take things to a whole new level when she got political back in 2016. When talking about then Presidential candidate Donald Trump’s proposed wall between the United States and Mexico, Kelly said, “If you kick every Latino out of this country, then who is going to be cleaning your toilet, Donald Trump?” Wow, what a horrible thing to say.
Kelly later backtracked on her comments by saying “Come on, you know I would never mean it like that,” but the damage was already done. Kelly’s comments were heavily criticized by the Latino community in the United States.
1. Sienna Miller
Sienna Miller wants you to know that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with cigarettes, as long as you glorify it the right way. That’s right – the British actress and mother-of-one once said that she loves nothing more in this world than cigarettes. And she admitted in an interview that as long as you have a positive approach to smoking cigs, they really aren’t that harmful.
Thankfully, Sienna realized that it was high time to kick her nasty habit and quit smoking altogether back in 2015. She told a German publication, “I’m not making any resolutions. I’m just going to look forward to a break, spending time with my child and will try to live in the moment. But it would be great if I could quit smoking.” No word if she still sneaks a cig when no one is looking.
