If we were to believe everything on the internet, we’d think Beyoncé is a shape shifting alien, rappers live in secrecy in Cuba, and our favorite celebs are part of a huge government conspiracy orchestrated by the illuminati.
We’re a culture that’s become obsessed with finding out what’s really happening in the secretive world of celebrity. We’re skeptics! We watch way too much Scandal and YouTube! We know that most of the news we read about celebrities aren’t entirely true, and so we dig for more until it’s 4am and we’re watching a YouTube about how Britney Spears was actually part of the George Bush administration (more on that later). Take for instance the aftermath of Kim Kardashian’s October robbery. When it was revealed that the reality star was bound and gagged and robbed at gunpoint at the exclusive No Address Hotel in Paris, fans, haters and even journalists were left wondering whether the burglary was part of an elaborate PR scheme. A random YouTuber named Dave Johnson, became an internet sensation when he created a video suggesting that Katy Perry was actually JonBenét Ramsey all grown up.
No matter how wacky the theories get, plenty of people wholeheartedly believe in every single one. And as a result the internet will never stop crafting, or expanding on the most disturbing celebrity conspiracy theories. Throw some tape over your computer’s camera and check out the 15 we can’t stop talking about.
15. Avril Lavigne Is Dead
Have you ever noticed how Avril Lavigne quietly disappeared from the forefront of pop music? Wonder how and when her decline happened? If you dig deep enough, you’ll come across a long read on a tragic story about the Canadian star’s 2003 suicide and her label’s decision to replace her with a non-famous doppelgänger in order to trick unsuspecting fans. A Brazilian based superfan stalked thousands of photos of Lavigne from her debut up until now, and after studying her nose structure and physical features, deduced that Avril’s body double was living a new life as his fave. The YouTuber compared the many stages of Lavigne’s transformation – from her teen years to adulthood – which could mean… she grew up? Or she grew up and got really good plastic surgery? Who knows.
14. Khloe Kardashian’s Dad Is Actually O.J. Simpson
What if your favorite Kardashian isn’t a Kardashian at all? We’ve been keeping up with the famous fam for over a decade now and throughout their rise, many have pointed out that Khloe doesn’t really look like her older 100% biological sisters, Kim and Kourtney. Genes are crazy! But instead of accepting the fact that maybe Khloe just looks like her mother, grandmother or a random non-famous member of the Kardash family, theorists claim that Khloe’s real father is O.J. Simpson or Jenner’s hairdresser from back in the day. Thus, Khloe has spent most of her time in the limelight dispelling the rumor that Simpson—who the Kardashian kids referred to as an uncle before the grizzly murder of Jenner’s best friend, Nicole Simpson—was in fact her father. Awkward… and unsettling. When Kris Jenner revealed that she in fact did have an affair while married to Kardashian in her memoir, the rumor was turned into a plot-line for the family reality show, making this the craziest sort-of-unconfirmed theory to date.
13. Lady Gaga Is A Murderer
Monsters, brace yourselves. Today Lady Gaga is a household name thanks to a killer voice and impressive costumes, but there’s also a theory that Mother Monster’s fame has everything to do with the death of aspiring pop singer Lina Morgana. The crazy theory claims that a pre-fame Lady Gaga was frustrated with being a ghostwriter/backup singer for Morgana and was told by label executives that if she helped to get rid of the star, she would take her place. According to so-called “sources” close to the situation, Gaga pushed Morgana off a New York City building and made it look like a suicide. Morgana’s family inadvertently helped to push the theory when they spoke out against her daughter’s suicide, claiming that she would not have taken her own life. Fast forward to 2009, Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” video revved up with the conspiracy when her video featured her lover throwing her off a balcony. Dark.
12. Britney Spears Worked With The Bush Administration
What were you doing in 2007? Probably reading a headline about Britney Spears attacking a car with an umbrella, right?! Well, about that… according to one theory, Britney Spears’ public meltdown—which ended in the star being placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold—was orchestrated by the Bush administration in order to distract the American people from its disasters overseas. Fact or fiction? Well, it’s a fact that Britney Spears stole every single headline in 2007. There was the infamous head-shaving moment where Spears hit a random shop and buzzed her own hair off. She followed that up with high profile trips to Starbucks where she wore a pink wig and spoke in a British accent. The VMAs were the most talked about event thanks to the pop princesse’s performance from hell. But why blame the Bush administration for a celebrity breakdown? Theorists say that all of the headline grabbing moments seemed to coincide with a political scandal that would further destroy Bush’s image. Juicy Spears-related news was clicked on more than political news, and the administration hid their biggest failures with the distraction.
11. Miley Cyrus Is Also Dead
Sure, you remember Miley Cyrus’ raunchy performance with Robin Thicke at the 2013 VMAs, but what if I told you that Miley Cyrus wasn’t actually twerking all over Thicke because she’s really dead? Shortly after the pop star’s disaster award show, a 4chan user claimed that Cyrus was killed in 2007 after a disagreement with Disney executives during her Hannah Montana days. A photo (or photoshopped?) of her body was found in the desert and Miley was replaced by a wannabe Disney star who got plastic surgery to resemble the star. Or maybe that’s not the case, and we’re really just watching a government tool at work? Following the VMAs, Korn’s frontman, Jonathan David cited Cyrus as just another pawn used by the government to distract the American people. According to the permanent face of Hot Topic, the Obama administration forced Cyrus to twerk in order to downplay state issues. Was Britney on vacation?
10. Katy Perry Is JonBenét Ramsey All Grown Up
In a resurfaced YouTube video first published in December 2014, YouTuber Dave Johnson proclaimed that the late pageant princess tragically murdered in 1996 was actually not dead, but masquerading as pop princess Katy Perry. Wacky? Definitely.
“All of these people are liars, man,” Johnson rants over images comparing Perry and Ramsey. “Nobody died, nobody got hurt. That sacrifice was in name only, and that was to get something, and that something was to become a star. JonBenét became Katy Perry, and that’s a fact.” According to Johnson, not only did Perry and Ramsey’s parents share similar haircuts at the same time, the parents both had ambitions to turn their child into a star. Another theorist on Johnson’s side followed up with his own video comparing JonBenét and Katy’s eyebrows. Yes… their eyebrows. Perry has never commented on the video (but did she even have to?) and considering that the murder is still a mystery to this day, Johnson’s conspiracy will most likely live on forever. Yikes.
9. Kanye West And Taylor Swift Planned The VMAs AND “Famous” Feud
Hands down the biggest moment in VMA history was when Kanye West stormed the stage during Taylor Swift’s win and interrupted her speech to announce to the world that actually… Beyoncé should have won. It sent shockwaves for decades, but it also may have been a preplanned stunt orchestrated by Kanye, Taylor and MTV. For some, it’s not a coincidence that West and Swift shared the same agent at the time, and apparently wanted to steal all the press around the event – good or bad. It was bad for Kanye, and good for Taylor… then. Fast forward to 2017, after Kim Kardashian West leaked proof that Taylor agreed with Kanye calling her out on his track “Famous” Taylor’s team went into the damage control phase, but that too may have also been a stunt to drum up press leading up to Kanye’s tour and Taylor’s fall comeback. Interesting…
8. Taylor Swift And Tom Hiddleston Faked Their Relationship
Which brings us Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston, formerly known as Hiddleswift. Apparently, Taylor and Tom were never an actual couple but rather a match up orchestrated by PR to increase interest in Tom before his movie and keep Tay-Tay in the headlines. It’s not the first time Swift has been accused of fabricating a relationship, but these two were laying it on THICK. First there was the perfectly executed paparazzi shot of the two kissing on a rock overlooking the ocean. We were inundated with photos of the couple’s walks on the beach, a photo of Hiddleston wearing a tank that read “I Love TS” and casual hangs with his family. Theorists wondered if this was an elaborate hoax on the public, or a statement about the little privacy celebrities have. But then, fans began to notice that the same paparazzi agency was behind every single photo of the pair. Mhmmmm….
7. Beyoncé Faked The Elevator Fight
What’s even juicier than a supposed fake baby bump? A fake family feud. The Carter family is notoriously private, we didn’t even know that Beyonce and Jay Z were married until after the fact. So, it’s no surprise that we still have no idea what went down in the elevator between Jay Z and Solange – there are however, interesting theories that suggest nothing happened. That’s right, Solo, Bey and Jay orchestrated that fight in order to increase ticket sales for their joint On The Run tour. When Beyonce’s father Matthew Knowles, went on a radio station and denied marriage problems, insisting that Beyonce knew how to toy with the media, he made it clear that if the elevator fight was organic, Jayonce was still winning together.
6. Michael Jackson’s Chemical Castration
The curious case of Michael Jackson’s vitiligo is far from the most outrageous claim about the late King of Pop, but definitely one of those most widely spread. According to rumors, the singer bleached his skin in an effort to resemble his idol Diana Ross. Jackson himself has insisted that his gradual lightening is the effect of vitiligo. But, according to a newish theory, Jackson was actually chemically castrated with a male hormone drug called cyproterone. This caused his voice to stay high pitched and his skin to gradually lighten from the age of 12. According to medical professionals who agree with the theory, the castration blocked Jackson’s puberty and ensured that his voice would not mature.
5. Harry Styles And Louis Tomlinson Were Secret Lovers
Perhaps one of the most widely circulated celebrity conspiracy theories on the internet is the one outing One Director singers Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson as secret lovers. Since 2010 fan have taken to YouTube, Tumblr and Instagram to uncover the true meaning behind photos of the guys holding hands and other small gestures of affection. Can’t they just be best friends? Even when Tomlinson had a kid in 2016, fans still alleged that the child was fake, and a baby hired to downplay rumors of a relationship. Wait. Huh?! On Tumblr, multiple pages are dedicated to revealing the ship between the two; one user claims that their management is the reason the two won’t reveal their relationship to the public.
4. Lorde Is Actually In Her 40s
When Lorde first burst on the scene, fans where shocked to hear the candid lyrics coming from a 16-year-old. But then rumors started circulating that Lorde was not born on November 7, 1996, because she was actually in her 30s. Her record label refused to market her as an adult superstar because a teen would sell more albums and lock in a younger fanbase. Her birth certificate was later released, but according to Lorde since she thought the story was funny, she proceeded to tell Vanity Fair that she was 45 and told the Rookie that her favorite film was the 1999 classic The Virgin Suicides.
3. Tom Cruise Auditioned Potential Wives
Was Scientology behind the marriage between Tom and Katie Holmes? The church has denied these claims, but according to the controversial Scientology tell-all book Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood and the Prison Belief, it’s said that Cruise and the church teamed together to audition Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Alba, Kate Bosworth and Lindsay Lohan as potential wives for the actor before giving the role to Kate Holmes. According to the account, after Cruise’s split with Nicole Kidman, the Church of Scientology wanted to ensure that their most famous member secured a new wife that would stick by his side and abide by the church. During their relationship, there were wild accusations suggesting that Holmes was brainwashed in solitude before they went public with their romance, she was paid $3 million to stay with Cruise and if she dared to step out of bounds, Scientologists were sent to intervene. This could be fake… but it is pretty interesting that their 5-year-marriage coincided with the supposed five year marriage contract.
2. Hollywood Is Secretly Killing A Bunch Of Celebs
Elvis, Tupac, Marilyn Monroe, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse – the list of deceased celebs theorists suggest to have been killed by the higher powers in Hollywood may be one of the creepiest conspiracies yet. Can you imagine reaching new heights in your career, selling out shows, and becoming a household name only to discover that the executives are eyeing to cancel you for life?! EEEEKKKKK. According to family close to Tupac, the rapper left behind tons of unreleased music, which is explains all the posthumous tracks we’ve heard since his 1996 murder. According to theorists though, it’s a lot more sinister than that. For nearly two decades the story has been that Tupac is hiding in Cuba with his aunt Assata Shakur, the activist and former Black Liberation Army member who broke out of prison and fled to Cuba after she was convicted for the 1977 murder of a New Jersey State Trooper. As for Marilyn, Kurt, Elvis and Amy? According to fans, the CIA were involved in their deaths…
1. Kim Kardashian And Kanye West’s 2016 Disasters Are Fake
The Kardashians have always stood accused of fabricating real life events for TV ratings gold, but following the October robbery at the No Address Hotel in Paris, France, where Kardashian-West was bound and gagged and then ordered to give up her jewels at gun point, the public was quick to call out Kim for lying. They actually believed that Kardashian-West lied about the entire ordeal in order to lock in more headlines. People questioned why there was no security guard in sight, then they wondered why she had millions of dollars of jewels in a room. The allegations that the whole thing was a set up reached new heights when the Kardashian camp threatened to sue publications for claiming that “sources” were the ones revealing that it was a stunt. Most recently, Kanye West’s health returned to the forefront when he was rushed to the hospital after suffering from “exhaustion” after canceling a string of Saint Pablo shows. Similar to Kim’s ordeal, fans accused Yeezy of using his condition just to bail out on the remaining performances. Way harsh.
