Doesn’t it seem like this list should be impossible to populate? After all, in our celebrity obsessed culture, it seems improbable that we’d have no idea that the offspring of those we follow have made their way into show business without us noticing. Yet, sometimes family connections can be detrimental to a career, as it is often impossible to escape the shadow of a famous family member, so it makes sense that some would remain hidden.
When we recently discovered that some famous people we’d followed for years had relatives in show business we were pretty blown away. Reflecting on our astonishment, we came to the conclusion that we couldn’t be the only ones that had no idea how these people have connections to others they’ve known for years. With that in mind, we thought it’d be fun to bring to you, our highly valued readers, a list of the 15 celebrities you didn’t know had kids in show business. If that appeals to you, and it should considering you’re more than likely going to be in for some real surprises, then you’ll be happy you read on.
In order for a celebrity to be considered for placement on this list they first need to be well-known, at least to a significant portion of society. Secondly, they need to have children who’ve begun to make a living in show business. That said, we are limiting ourselves to kids who’ve taken on a more public role. Don’t get us wrong, everyone involved in the creation of a movie or TV show, for instance, plays a role in the production, but if we include kids of celebrities who are working as a PA, this list would be endless. Additionally, we don’t think that many people will find incidences like those all that interesting, and it is always our goal to give our readers a fun and entertaining read. Please keep in mind that we can’t be certain that you will be unaware of all the children of celebrities we are about to list, as everyone’s knowledge base is different, but we do think that you will be surprised by some of them. Now that the rules are outlined, let’s take a look at some famous people and their kids.
15. Jack Nicholson
One of the most respected actors of all-time, Jack Nicholson is the most nominated male actor in the history of the Academy Awards due to the staggering twelve times he was in the running. Best known for roles in movies like Easy Rider, Chinatown, Batman, A Few Good Men, As Good As It Gets and The Departed, he was someone that directors dreamed of getting involved in their projects. Hopefully, his daughter, Lorraine Nicholson, will have the same fortune before too long. While two of Jack’s other kids tried their hands at acting briefly, both appearing in a couple of projects, she is the only one who has made a career for herself. Debuting in her father’s film, Something’s Gotta Give, she has appeared in eleven films to date, including Soul Surfer in which she played the starring role.
14. Quincy Jones
Becoming famous as a music producer isn’t a thing that really happens. Sure, there are a few folks who the masses have managed to become aware of but the likelihood of that happening are pretty much nil. Still, Quincy Jones seemed to have no difficulty pulling off that feat due to his work with the likes of Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, and many more. Someone with many children, two of them have entered show business. Kidada Jones is an actress, model, and fashion designer who clothes are sold by the Walt Disney Company. The better known of the two though is Rashida Jones who has starred in shows like The Office as well as Parks and Recreation on top of movies like I Love You Man, Our Idiot Brother and The Muppets.

A famous pairing, Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet at one point were the it a couple of their time. That child, Zoë Kravitz, has since grown up to become a musician, model, and actor (quite impressive!). 12. Eric Roberts
A three-time Golden Globe and one-time Oscar nominee, Eric Roberts has had one hell of a career. Appearing in more than two-hundred films to date, he is best remembered for films like Star 80, Runaway Train, The Specialist, The Dark Knight, The Expendables and Inherent Vice, he is always working. Unlike the others on this list, it may be possible that the child here has become more famous than their parent but they belong here because few know of their connection. Emma Roberts is an actress on the rise due to her roles in shows like Unfabulous, American Horror Story and Scream Queens on top of movies like Nancy Drew, Scream 4, We’re the Millers and Nerve. A veteran of film and television, she first appeared alongside her mom in movies like Bob Roberts, Anywhere But Here and The Banger Sisters, before breaking out on her own. First gaining attention for her notable role in Saved, she has since been in movies like That’s My Boy and Stag, as well as shows like How I Met Your Mother, Californication, New Girl and The Mindy Project.
9. Lisa Marie Presley
There aren’t too many people in this world that are famous strictly due to their relationships with huge celebrities but Lisa Marie definitely falls into that category. Despite her attempts to make a music career for herself, she is a celebrity because she is the daughter of Elvis and ex-wife of both Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage. Her daughter, Riley Keough, however, is well on her way to making a name for herself due to her acting career. First cast as Marie Currie in The Runaways, she has since appeared in Magic Mike, Mad Max: Fury Road and American Honey. However, all of this pales in comparison to the potential next year holds as it seems poised to be a breakout one for her between the six films she is set to be a part of.
8. Brian Williams
Brian Williams is a familiar face to many people across the world because of his many years as a journalist but these days he is largely thought of in relation to the controversy that basically cost him his career. Caught “misrepresenting events which occurred while he was covering the Iraq War in 2003”, he was eventually fired from his job. His daughter’s career, however, is very much on the upswing. Allison Williams is famous for her role in the show Girls, in which she has been one of four young women living in New York City during all of the series’ five seasons.
7. John Landis
Arguably the least famous parent on this list, some people may not know who John Landis is but many do and if you don’t then you surely know his work. One of the crème de la crème of eighties movie directors, John directed movies like The Blues Brothers, An American Werewolf in London, Trading Places and Coming to America, among many others. Additionally, John’s legacy is hard to ignore due to the fact that he directed the music video for Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” Then there is his son, Max Landis, who is one of the most outspoken figures in today’s film and television world. The writer of movies like Chronicle, Wrestling Isn’t Wrestling (a short that went viral on YouTube), American Ultra and Victor Frankenstein, Max seems to be a writing machine.
6. Kevin Smith
A man who is famous for being a writer, director, reality TV star, podcast host, comic book writer, Q&A Host and occasional actor, Kevin Smith is clearly a very busy man. Also a family man, Kevin has a daughter by the name of Harley Quinn Smith who he is helping to shepherd into the acting world. Cast by her father in minor roles in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Jersey Girl, Clerks II and Tusk, her pops has recently upped the ante even further. Cast in one of the lead roles in her father’s 2016 film, Yoga Hosers, she can aptly call herself a movie star because her dad said so.
5. Clint Eastwood
Clint Eastwood is so famous due to his decades-long career in the film industry that you can refer to him simply by his first name and nearly everyone in our society knows who you mean. The father of seven children, six of his kids have acted at one point or another, but there are two of them that have gained the most notoriety. His daughter Alison, began acting as a child in 1980 and received consistent acting roles in between 1997 and 2013. She has also served as a film director, model, and fashion designer during her adult years. Then there is Clint’s son, Scott, who has received roles in films like Flags of Our Fathers, Gran Torino, Invictus, Texas Chainsaw, Fury, The Longest Ride and Suicide Squad. Set to appear in the next installments of the Fast and Furious and Pacific Rim franchises, his career seems to be on the rise.
4. Sissy Spacek
An Academy Award-winning actress who took home the Best Actress statue for her work as Loretta Lynn in Coal Miner’s Daughter, Sissy has always been a much-respected figure. Well-known due to her immense talents, she has seemingly never been one who sought out the spotlight too much and possibly because of that she has never really been a bankable star. However, that doesn’t mean her work hasn’t gone down in history, as evidenced by her roles in movies like Carrie, JFK, Blast from the Past, In the Bedroom and The Help. Her Daughter, Schuyler Fisk, has appeared in a number of films, including The Baby-Sitters Club and Orange County before deciding to focus primarily on her music career which has included the two albums to date.
3. Tom Hanks
Tom Hanks is one of the most beloved and bankable actors of this or any generation. Known for roles in movies like Forrest Gump, Big, You’ve Got Mail, Saving Private Ryan, Cast Away, Apollo 13 and the Toy Story series among others, he is well-known all over the word. Yet, there are still a lot of people that have no idea that he has not one but two children in the entertainment industry, Colin and Chet. The younger of the two, Chet, is doing his very best to make a career for himself as a rapper but despite his best efforts, he is best-known for his addiction issues. On the other hand, Colin has created a pretty respectable career for himself as an actor. Playing major roles on shows like Band of Brothers, Dexter, Life in Pieces and Fargo, his television work has garnered him Golden Globe and SAG awards nominations. Colin has also appeared in movies like Orange County, King Kong, The House Bunny and Vacation.
2. Lea Thompson
An actress that will forever by synonymous with the Back to the Future trilogy, not that there is anything wrong with that, Lea has actually had a lot more staying power than many actors. The star of a long-running sitcom, Caroline in the City, during the nineties, she is currently one of the stars of Switched at Birth, a series that is airing on ABC Family. Additionally, she was part of movies like All the Right Moves, Howard the Duck, Jaws 3-D, Red Dawn and Some Kind of Wonderful. Her daughter, Zoey Deutch, has an acting career that has taken off since her first major role in 2010. A part of a mind-boggling seven films that were slated at one point to come out in 2016, Dirty Grandpa and Everybody Wants Some arguably gained the most attention of the bunch.
1. Kiefer Sutherland
The son of a hugely successful actor who continues to get work to this day, Donald Sutherland, Kiefer really shouldn’t have been too surprised when his offspring got into acting herself. Known for shows like 24, Touch and Designated Survivor, Kiefer still arguably owes much of his fame to his film work. Case in point, he had pivotal roles in Stand By Me, The Lost Boys, Young Guns, A Few Good Men, A Time to Kill, Dark City, and so many more. His daughter, however, Sarah Sutherland, is pretty well only known for her recurring role on Veep, where she plays the sole child of the show’s main character. Still, she has brought a unique energy to the role that has made it far more memorable than a lot of other shows that throw a child into the mix just to give a character grounding.
