It can be said that celebrities are people just like you and me, but in a lot of ways that isn’t the case. First off, there is the obvious, they are famous so people tend to bend over backward to meet their every need. Then you have the large sums of money that come along with making a name for yourself. However, for the purposes of this list, we’re talking about the fact that their career oftentimes relies at least partially on their look while most of us regular Joes don’t experience that on the same level. That level of pressure to appear a certain way is bound to affect any of us to a large enough extent that we might consider going to vast lengths to meet those expectations
Once you’ve decided to go under the knife and alter your body in any major fashion, hopefully you will be extremely pleased with the results. Famous folks that decide to do just that should be able to use their notoriety and money to ensure that they find the best doctors possible, but judging by some of the more obvious results that doesn’t seem to be the case. More than that, even in situations where the outcome of these surgeries is exactly as advertised it is perfectly reasonable to realize that you’re not pleased with your choice. After all, who amongst us hasn’t fallen prey to buyer’s remorse more than once in our lives? It must be horrible to come to the conclusion that you’ve done something to your body you dislike while the whole world is watching your every move. Coming to that conclusion is what inspired us to put together this list of fifteen celebrities who regret their enhancements.
In order for a celebrity to be considered for inclusion here, they first and foremost need to be famous. It doesn’t matter what they owe the attention they receive to as long as a sizeable group would recognize them by name or face. Next, they need to have gotten an “enhancement” that they grew to regret. Keeping in mind that we don’t know any of these people personally, we can’t attest to having heard any of them lament their choice in person. However, we relied on public information in order to choose who to include. Everyone included here either spoke publicly about regretting their choice or have had their “enhancements” removed since, which could be the ultimate evidence of dissatisfaction.
15. Kylie Jenner
A member of the Kardashian/Jenner family, Kylie has spent almost all of her life in the spotlight. Coming of age while appearing on the “reality” show Keeping Up with the Kardashians, like her siblings, that platform turned Kylie into a star. Capitalizing on that momentum, she has been a part of the fashion world as of late, including a bikini line, cosmetics brand, and an app. Named one of the twenty-five most influential teens of 2014 by Time magazine, one piece of evidence to support that decision is the Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge that ran rampant on the internet. A series of clips in which everyday people artificially plump their lips, she inspired the trend due to the outlandish size of her own lips. After a long period in which she failed to confirm that obvious, that her lip size was artificial, she finally came clean admitting that she had gone too far.
Kylie was quoted as saying ‘I definitely made my lips a little too big at one point,’ she said. ‘I got excited and felt like I needed to do a lot. And then you guys were like, “Kylie, you need to chill.” And then I had to go back and have it fixed, and it was a crazy process. Thank God I didn’t end up on Botched.’
14. Farrah Abraham
Originally cast to appear on an episode of 16 and Pregnant, Farrah Abraham’s over the top personality made her stand out right from the start. As a result, when MTV decided to create a spin-off called Teen Mom it was an obvious call to bring her along. Appearing on “reality” TV for the majority of the time since she has since been seen on shows like Teen Mom OG, Being Farrah, Couples Therapy and Celebrity Big Brother. Also well known for appearing in a couple of adult movies, she attempted to play it off like they were stolen but nobody bought her story. Living her life in a manner that the world gets to see almost all of her mistakes, it stands to reason that she wishes she could rewrite her history a little. It seems as though one of her biggest regrets would be when she opted to get lip injections. Falling prey to an allergic reaction, her lip ballooned up and as a result, she remarked that she was “happy that I’m alive” which sure sounds like someone who made a mistake to us.
13. Courtney Love
Lead Singer of the nineties rock band Hole, Courtney Love’s band was hugely successful at one time. Also, she underwent a period of time in which she looked like she could be a big movie star. Despite these accomplishments, she is best known as a tabloid mainstay, in part due to her husband’s death, her substance abuse, and a strained relationship with her daughter. After years in the public eye, it seems like Courtney has enough pride to have plastic surgery done but has no problem discussing the results in public. While she has said she has no qualms about the nose job she got done, she has written in the past about regretting what she did to her mouth. Writing on MySpace of all things, she shared this: “I just want the mouth God gave me back; it was perfectly cute, and I had nice big lips”.
12. Dana Delany
A talented actress who has received prominent roles going back as far as the late seventies, Dana’s name isn’t the best known on this list but she is highly recognizable. Known for roles in shows like China Beach, and movies like Tombstone, Exit to Eden, and Fly Away Home, she was also loved for her distinct red hair which made her stand out. Evidently wanting to get rid of a few wrinkles on her forehead, she opted to have a procedure done. Speaking about the process, she said this “I had never heard of Botox. My dermatologist was saying You should try this”. “He injected my forehead, hit a nerve and created a huge hematoma, reveals Delany. “The nerve has been dead ever since”. This left her with a visible droop on her face she dislikes
11. Victoria Beckham
As a member of The Spice Girls Victoria Beckham was known as Posh Spice which made sense due to the fancy manner in which she carried herself. The best-selling female group of all time, she and her cohorts have sold more than eighty-five million records worldwide and at one time seemed to be everywhere. A merchandising juggernaut, they were so hot that they were even the stars of a movie called Spice World. After that, Victoria went on to marry David Beckham, arguably the world’s best-known soccer (or football) star which has led her to very much stay in the public eye. As a result, her looks continue to be discussed, including the long-discussed opinion that she had work done on her chest. Writing about that attribute of her body, she told her fans “I should probably say, don’t mess with your boobs,” she writes. “All those years I denied it – stupid. A sign of insecurity. Just celebrate what you’ve got”.
10. Jane Fonda
A member of the famed Fonda acting family, Jane made a name for herself just like her father Henry had years before. A two-time Oscar and one-time BAFTA winner who was given an AFI Life Achievement Award, to say she has the respect of her peers would be quite the understatement. Also very outspoken about her beliefs, she has been at the center of controversy during her life but that hasn’t dulled her willingness to be blunt, even about her own looks. Speaking of her choice to undergo surgery, she said this: “I did have plastic surgery. I’m not proud of the fact that I’ve had it. But I grew up so defined by my looks. I was taught to think that if I wanted to be loved, I had to be thin and pretty. That leads to a lot of trouble”.
9. Reid Ewing
ABC’s Modern Family is one of the most popular sitcoms on television due in part to the ensemble cast that stars on it. Despite the fact that there are so many actors that star in the series, almost any show worth its salt will need to include a slew of recurring characters that are one tier below the main players. When it comes to this show it could easily be argued that Dylan, a character that was introduced as the love interest of Haley, is the most recognizable. Played by the actor Reid Ewing, his look has changed over the years just as the actor’s has too.
Someone who revealed that he suffers from body dysmorphia, he opted to go under the knife to fix the flaws in his appearance that only he focused on. Opting to get “large cheek implants”, he woke up “screaming my head off from pain” and after a lengthy recovery process found the results “horrendous”. Going on to have several procedures in the following years in an attempt to fix the new look he hated, he would go on to write an article about how he wish he’d never had any of the surgery.
An actress, entertainer, and singer who has been famous ever since the first song she appeared on, “I Got You Babe”, came out in 1965, Cher has blazed a unique path. Someone who has taken home an Oscar, Grammy, Emmy, Golden Globe and Cannes Film Festival Award to name but a few, her efforts are highly celebrated. On top of that, she is seen as a fashion icon as well due to her many memorable outfits and she has been open about the fact that her look has been partially crafted by a plastic surgeon’s blade.
While she says that she hasn’t had as much work done as some believe, Cher has no issues speaking about the fact that she had cosmetic surgery on her breasts. Speaking on the subject she said this, “I’ve had my breasts done. But my breast operations were a nightmare. They were really botched in every way. If anything, they were worse after than before”. We can’t say it any clearer than that.
7. Courteney Cox
One of the stars of the behemoth sitcom Friends, Courteney Cox played Monica Geller on the show and as a result, will always be beloved by a large group of people. Also known for her appearances in the Scream horror film franchise as well as the show Cougar Town, unlike many stars of hit shows she has managed to find prosperity afterward. She has also been discussed a lot too due to the huge change in her face. While she seems to have come to a certain level of peace with her looks, saying she has decided to “just let it be”, she also doesn’t love the results it seems. Speaking of her surgical past she said this: “So, the more you relax into it and the less I try, because sometimes you find yourself trying and then you look at a picture of yourself and go, ‘Oh, God.’ Like, you look horrible,” she continued. “I have done things that I regret, and luckily they’re things that dissolve and go away. So, um, that’s good, because it’s not always been my best look”. We’re happy she has come to terms but clearly, if she could turn back the clock she wouldn’t do the same things to her face.
6. Lisa Rinna
An American actress who owes her fame to starring roles on Days of Our Lives and Melrose Place, Lisa Rinna has been acting since the nineteen nineties. Also a television host, as part of a show called Soap Talk, she is a “reality” TV star too, as fans of The Celebrity Apprentice and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills can attest. All those accomplishments aside, we’d be lying if we tried to pretend that she isn’t known to a lot of people as that famous lady with the crazy lips and cheeks. Asked if there was any plastic surgery she regretted, she said this: “My cheeks. I had Juvederm put in my cheeks. That’s what I overdid — big time. I tried it because my girlfriends did it. I thought: I’ll do it! I saw a photo and I was like, “Oh Jesus. That’s no good. That’s NOT good”. She also went on to say she looked like “a freak”.
5. Mickey Rourke
At one time Mickey Rourke was one of the biggest up and coming actors due in part to his good looks on top of his acting skills. Seen as a sex symbol after starring in 9 ½ Weeks, he went on to other sexually charged roles in movies like Angel Heart. After undergoing a downturn in his career, he found a new career as a boxer and a new face. Speaking about his transformation, he said this: “Most of it was to mend the mess of my face because of the boxing, but I went to the wrong guy to put my face back together.” “I had my nose broken twice. I had five operations on my nose and one on a smashed cheekbone”. The very fact that he acknowledged having his face worked on by the wrong person clearly points to him disliking what happened to his face.
4. Kenny Rogers
A legend who was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, Kenny Rogers has sold more than one-hundred million records worldwide during his incredible career. Known for songs like “The Gambler”, “Just Dropped In”, “Lady”, “Lucille”, and “Islands in the Stream”, because of his many appearances in public people were quite familiar with his face. That is why so many were shocked when he underwent a transformation that made him look dramatically different. Discussing the surgeries that made this happen, Kenny said this: “he regrets his decision to have plastic surgery after he married a much younger woman in 1997.” “I’m the plastic surgery king. I’m a bionic man! Every part of my body has been scooped or something at one time,” “I kind of wish I hadn’t done it. Looking back at some pictures of myself, my eyes were a lot warmer than they are now, and I miss that.”
3. Jennifer Grey
The movie Dirty Dancing is one of the best-remembered films of the eighties, which makes it almost required viewing for anyone alive at the time it was released. Starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, it should have been a boon to both of their careers but it did little to help her because of her choice to reshape her face. Speaking on the subject of a nose job she got two years after the film was released, she said this: “I went into the operating room a celebrity and came out anonymous.” “It was the nose job from hell. I’ll always be this once-famous actress nobody recognises because of a nose job.” If that doesn’t sound like a clear indication that she regrets her decision to undergo the process, we don’t know what does.
2. Tara Reid
A member of American Pie’s ensemble cast, Tara Reid was part of the surprise hit of 1999 and seemed poised for big things. Also remembered for playing a small part in The Big Lebowski and four sequels to the film that made her a star, she became a laughing stock for several years before having a hit with 2013’s Sharknado. Part of the massive downturn in her career in a superficial world like acting was due to plastic surgeries she underwent that were damaging to her looks. After undergoing liposuction and a boob job, Tara said this, “It looked like I got completely butchered up” an “I had body contouring, but it all went wrong. My stomach became the most ripply, bulgy thing”.
1. Heidi Montag
Another “reality” TV star, Heidi Montag became famous because of her stint on The Hills. Starting out the show as an innocent looking blonde, as the series progressed she became the de facto victim of the show alongside Spence Pratt, the man she would eventually marry. While many hated her during her time on the series, some have since come to feel bad for her due to her plastic surgery woes. Undergoing ten procedures at once, she looked anything but natural but that was the least of her problems. Speaking on her surgeries she said this: “I didn’t know what an eyebrow lift and a chin reduction was! So once he kind of told me everything that was wrong with me I felt really insecure, and he gave me a really great deal on it all. He didn’t tell me how extensive it was going to be, how severe, how painful, so I had no idea.” “I would definitely say [to] women and men who think there’s such a thing as a minor surgical procedure, the second someone is hacking your body it no longer becomes minor surgery”.
