15 Celebrities That Need To Stay In 2016

Last year was a terrible year for celebrities. Every day, it seemed like another famous person made a huge mistake. Some of them ended up as the laughing stock of the world. Their failures were met with ridicule and humiliation. The news agencies pounced at the chance to put these overpaid nothings in their place. Their mistakes were chuckled at through the echoes of social media. But sometimes, it wasn’t funny at all. Sometimes, the celebrities did things that were downright disgusting. No one was laughing then. Instead of chuckling at them, the whole world pointed their finger at these guilty celebrities, screaming, “Shame!” Other times, the celebrities tried to make some kind of a political stance on something, but failed miserably. These people thought that because they were famous, people would listen to what they had to say. But they got a major wake-up call when people pointed out the flaws in their arguments. This proves that celebrities should stick to what they’re famous for, being good looking and overpaid, and keep their damn noses out of politics.

Every celebrity on this “naughty list” has done something either wrong, laughable, or just plain stupid. But whatever it was that they did in 2016, they all have one thing in common: they really need to stay in 2016, because we seriously don’t want a repeat of their nonsense in 2017. Please. Don’t make 2017 as big of a failure as 2016. Stay in your mansions, and keep your mouths shut. Please.

15. Ryan Lochte

via abcnews.go.com

Swimmer Ryan Lochte did a great job of representing the United States at the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil. Not! He made us look like a bunch of criminal rich boys. He’s the second top swimmer in the world, behind Michael Phelps, who also swims for the US, but he was the number one dumbass at the Olympic games.

He lied to the world and claimed he had been robbed by thieves at a gas station. But it later turned out that he had just been on a drunk bender with his friends, and he had stopped to use the gas station’s bathroom. He was the one who was doing criminal acts, as video surveillance proved. He vandalized the gas station bathroom, and when a security guard confronted him, he tried to leave the scene. The security guard demanded money to pay for the damage to the bathroom, and Ryan Lochte handed it over. He was later banned for ten months for this seriously stupid crime.

14. Mark Salling

via totpi.com

Actor Mark Salling definitely earned his spot on this list when he was arrested for possession of child pornography in 2016. The actor is famous for his role on the hit show Glee. He played the character of Noah “Puck” Puckerman on all 6 seasons of the show. Police were apparently tipped off by an ex-girlfriend of Salling’s, and they acted upon a search warrant they had for his home in California. The 33-year-old’s laptop was seized, and police reportedly found hundreds if not thousands of images depicting child porn. The images, which were also found on USB drives and external drives, apparently involved underage girls. His trial has been delayed, he’s wearing an ankle bracelet so police can track him, and he’s out on a $150,000 bond. This isn’t the first time Mark Salling has been in trouble for sexual crimes. In 2010, he was accused of committing sexual battery. He was ordered by a judge to way the woman $2.7 million.

13. Nate Parker

via deadline.com

In 2012, a woman who repeatedly claimed to have been raped by Nate Parker killed herself. But the information about this only surfaced in 2016. Nate Parker is the actor, writer, director and producer of the movie Birth Of A Nation. The film won widespread critical acclaim, and was released at the Toronto International Film Festival. The woman who claimed he raped her was called Jean McGianni Celestin. She went to Penn State with Nate Parker 17 years ago. During this time together, she claimed that Nate Parker and a group of other males had sex with her while she was passed out. He claimed that the sex was consensual. The court case took place not long after, but Nate Parker was found not guilty, and Jean McGianni Celestin had an initial appeal for sexual assault denied. Court records show that she tried to kill herself not long after hearing about the not guilty verdict. She then killed herself in 2012 at a mental health facility. There are still a lot of questions surrounding Nate Parker.

12. Martin Shkreli

via independent.co.uk

Who could forget everyone’s most hated CEO, Martin Shkreli? He became infamous in 2015 and into 2016 after he jacked up the price of a drug called Daraprim by over 4000%. The drug, which originally cost $13.50 per pill, became a ridiculous $750 per pill. The drug is vital for people suffering from HIV/AIDS, and it’s something they really depend on. Immediately, he faced a hailstorm of criticism from just about everyone under the sun, including politicians and mainstream media. He was branded “The Most Hated Man In America” by the media. Later, he was arrested by the FBI on fraud charges. He is out on bail right now. He has since resigned as CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals. He was most notably criticized by presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Later, it was pointed out that pretty much every pharmaceutical company was doing the same thing. Explaining the price hike, Shkreli said, “If there was a company that was selling an Aston Martin at the price of a bicycle, and we buy that company and we ask to charge Toyota prices, I don’t think that that should be a crime.”

11. Jared Fogle

via qz.com

We all know how hated Jared Fogle is. He’s the subway spokesperson who appeared in the subway commercials from 2000 to 2015. At the end of his commercial career, he was investigated for paying minors for sex and possessing child pornography. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a maximum of 15 years in prison. In 2016, he filed an appeal for a reduction in his sentence, but the original sentence was upheld. He apparently sent text messages to a woman specifically requesting 14-year-old Asian girls, saying he had a “craving” for underage Asian teens. In 2016, he was severely beaten by another inmate who hated child molesters, and he was transferred to another facility. It seems pretty certain that we’re not going to be seeing much more of this celebrity in 2017, seeing as he’s in prison and all. His earliest possible release is in 2029, when he will be about 52 years of age.

10. Kim Davis

via nbcnews.com

Kim Davis wasn’t a celebrity, but she became infamous around the world after she refused to issue a marriage license to a gay couple in Kentucky. She worked as a clerk at the time. Although she denied them the ability to get married, it didn’t do much, seeing as the couples in question just hired lawyers to appeal the decision, and won. One of the couple’s lawyers said, “On the eve of the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s ruling, we’re pleased that same-sex couples can fully realize legal recognition of their love, including in Rowan County, Kentucky.”

The US District Court actually found Kim Davis in contempt of court, and jailed her for five days. She was later released. Kentucky has since passed a law that removes clerk’s names from marriage licensing documents. Davis is up for re-election in 2017, but many of us wish that she would just go away.

9. Madonna

via popwrapped.com

The legendary Madonna did a lot of crazy, controversial things during 2016, and a lot of us got tired of it by the end of the year. It wasn’t that we didn’t agree with her, a lot of what she was doing was to further a political movement that many people were a part of. It was the way she was going about it. In the end, her “out there” tactics and shocking words discredited the counter-Trump movement rather than benefit it in any way, shape, or form. First of all, she started offering blow jobs to anyone who would vote for Hillary. While these choice words certainly made it onto the headlines, it probably wasn’t the kind of publicity Hillary Clinton really wanted to associate herself with. After Trump’s crushing defeat of Hillary Clinton, Madonna reacted by saying she wanted to “blow up the White House.” She’s now being investigated by the FBI. Yeah, good luck with that Madonna.

8. Debra Messing

via pinterest.com

Actress Debra Messing, like a lot of other celebs on this list, did something very stupid on social media in 2016, and that earned her a spot on this list. We all know that selfies are not supposed to be done in certain situations. Like at a war memorial. Or a funeral. Or after a shooting at a university. But apparently the star of Will & Grace never got that memo, and she posted a selfie after the shooting at UCLA in 2016. But it was the caption that really riled a lot of feathers. She wrote, “HORRENDOUS Watching news about shooting at UCLA with casualties while taking selfie 2bring awareness to Gun Violence.”

Many people accused her of using a tragedy to promote her own career. And they were probably right. This was pretty much the most insensitive thing she could have done. She later apologized and said she felt embarrassed. But it seems that the actress still hasn’t learned her lesson, as just recently she tweeted her direct support for violent protests at UC Berkeley, protests which the university has officially condemned, stressing its opposition for non-peaceful protests.

7. Anthony Weiner

via businessinsider.com

This is the face of a man who just can’t keep himself out of trouble. In 2015, the so-called “Weinergate” scandal came to light,  after it was revealed that Anthony Weiner has a habit of sexting random women pictures of his penis. In 2016, his wife Huma Abedin announcing she would be separating from him due to his continued sexting. Now, it has been announced that the once successful democrat could face child pornography charges after he apparently had an online explicit exchange with a 15-year-old girl. But that’s not all. In 2016, the investigation into “Weinergate” by the FBI had the unintended result of revealing classified emails between his wife, Huma Abedin, and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. This caused the FBI to reopen their investigation into Hillary Clinton, and put her on even thinner ice after a campaign filled with scandals. The questions this placed on Clinton’s integrity further alienated her from voters, and might just have lost her the election. So if you’re looking for someone to blame for Trump’s victory, blame it on this idiot.

6. Lena Dunham

Lena Dunham has been labeled a dominating figure of modern feminism, and she really goes out of her way to ensure that misogyny does not reign supreme, and that women get equal treatment. But sometimes, she goes a little too far. Case in point, a 2016 issue of Spanish newspaper supplement called Tentaciones. Lena Dunham, upon seeing the cover of the magazine, flew into a rage. That’s because she believed that the magazine had used photoshop to alter her body to make it look thinner. “This is NOT what my body has ever looked like or will ever look like,” she wrote on Instagram, enforcing her views on body shaming in women these days, which is a popular and often parroted slogan of modern feminism.

There was only one problem: the Spanish newspaper hadn’t photoshopped her body. They were able to prove that the photo they put on the cover was unaltered, forcing Dunham to make a humiliating and embarrassing apology. There is also the fact that she released a book called Not That Kind Of Girl, in which she writes about what some people interpreted as sexually abusing her little sister. One passage reads, “three pieces of candy if I could kiss her on the lips for five seconds … anything a sexual predator might do to woo a small suburban girl I was trying.” Make of that what you will.

5. Hilary Duff And Jason Walsh

via independent.co.uk

Insensitive and racist Halloween costumes have always been something celebrities can’t get their heads around. Time and time again, celebs come out in public wearing the most offensive costumes imaginable, with examples in the past including Nazi uniforms, and even blackface. You’d think that people like Hilary Duff and her boyfriend would know better, but they emerged dressed as a pilgrim and a First Nations person.

First Nations people have repeatedly expressed their disgust and offense when people dress up as “Indians,” saying they are “appropriating their culture.” I guess their concerns fell on deaf ears when it came to Hilary Duff and Jason Walsh. The couple took to Twitter to publicly apologize, with Duff tweeting, “I am SO sorry to people I offended with my costume. It was not properly thought through and I am truly, from the bottom of my [heart emoji] sorry.”

4. Chloë Grace Moretz

via rue-morgue.com

Chloë Grace Moretz is one of those young celebrities that’s just figuring out that she has the power to say whatever she wants, and people will listen on the grounds that she’s famous. Unfortunately what she has to say isn’t always that intelligent. Now we all know that the Kardashians can be a little dim, but calling them out on it probably isn’t such a great idea. You also want to be really careful about slut-shaming people in this day and age, especially when you call yourself a feminist, as Chloë Grace Moretz does.

So when she basically went to war with the Kardashians in 2016, she didn’t do herself any favors. In response to a nude pic Kim Kardashian posted, Moretz tweeted, “I truly hope you realize how important setting goals are for young women, teaching them we have so much more to offer than just our bodies.” It’s not just that she slut-shamed Kim K, which is a huge no-no in the world of feminism – it’s that she really needs to pick her battlers. The Kardashians own the social media world, Chloë. You can’t beat them on their own turf.

3. Jared Leto

via github.io

Oscar winner Jared Leto had a lot of people scratching their heads when he took “method acting” about ten steps too far in order to prepare for his role as the Joker in Suicide Squad. A lot of other actors in the industry shook their heads at his bizarre methods, and he basically gave the whole method acting technique a bad name.

Now everyone thinks these actors are completely insane, which they probably are, but it’s not something that needs to be put on display so publicly. If he needed to prepare for his role, he should have done so alone in his trailer, not in the public eye where he would ensure himself all kinds of publicity. His co-stars on the movie were totally annoyed by his actions, which included sending them anal beads and used condoms. Not only that, but Suicide Squad ended up being not that great of a movie according to critics, so it’s not like these crazy method acting techniques actually helped the movie in any way.

2. Zac Efron

via twitter.com

Right up there on the list of most idiotic people on social media in 2016 is Zac Efron. He made a huge mistake after he posted his support for Martin Luther King and celebrated having 10 million followers on Instagram – in the same post. Such political insensitivity is so common among actors, musicians, and celebrities these day. It sucks too because there are many level-headed, politically aware celebrities out there that know not to do these things, and they’re given a bad name by people like Zac Efron.

At the end of the day, the average person just assumes that every celebrity is as empty-minded and as insensitive as people like Zac Efron. In case you don’t get why this was such a big deal, let me explain it to you. He’s basically using the black civil rights movement as a way to increase his own popularity, while at the same time rejoicing at his own success. He’s celebrating and talking about the horrible history that black people have endured in the same sentence. You can see why people got offended.

1. Gregg Sulkin

via newstatesman.com

When there’s so much political drama going on, it’s hard for some people to just sit on the sidelines and do nothing. People get all riled up, they feel like they have to stand up and do something! Well, if you’re someone like Gregg Sulkin, you might want to resist that urge. Because while your heart might be in the right place, your mind might not be, as was the case when Gregg Sulkin started selling hats labeled with the slogan, “Grab her by the brain,” in response to President Trump’s words, “Grab her by the p*ssy.”

Feminists were outraged, and it’s not hard to see why. Instead of, oh I don’t know, suggesting that men stop grabbing women, he proposed that men simply grab women in a different place! While this may have sounded like an amazing idea in his mind, women were not amused. They don’t want to be grabbed at all, in any place on their body. And that’s pretty understandable.
