Disney Princesses are some of the most iconic animated characters of all time. We have our three Classic Era princesses, Snow White, Cinderella, and Aurora, who have been around from the 1930s to the 1950s. Then, of course, we have our Disney Renaissance era princesses from the 80’s and 90’s: Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, and Mulan.
And now we have our Modern era princesses! Tiana, Rapunzel, Merida, and Anna and Elsa from “Frozen” are just as near and dear to our hearts as the princesses who have been around for a long time. We all know what they look like, what they sound like, what they wear, and how they act. The Disney Princesses have dominated pop culture for generations, and probably will continue to for generations to come.
However, there is a franchise new to the scene who has been giving them a run for their money: Illumination Entertainment and Universal Studios’s adorable creatures, the Minions. The Minions first appeared in “Despicable Me” in 2010, and we immediately fell in love.
Since then, they have appeared in “Despicable Me 2,” a few short movies, have had guest spots on TV shows, and have a movie of their own, “Minions,” which came out in 2015. It is set to release a sequel in 2020. They even have their own section in the Universal Studios theme park! Needless to say, their popularity has exploded over the last several years.
