No one really knows how YouTube trends start. The ALS ice bucket challenge, “Cash Me Ousside” girl, and slime trend all seem to have appeared from out of nowhere. It is clear though that once a video trend goes viral, most YouTubers try to cash in on its success by creating their own video about the trend. In fact, some YouTube gurus suggest that you should take a look at the top trending YouTube videos before deciding on the content of your next video.
Since YouTube has more viewers than active users, the YouTube content creators need to stay on top of trends in order to attract more views and subscribers. It’s very hard to stand out from the crowd when there are literally millions of YouTube videos to choose from, but staying updated on what’s current allows some YouTubers to ride on a wave of momentary success.
However, some trends are just so weird that it’s a wonder that they became popular in the first place. We’ve watched so many different trending videos for research purposes and the majority made us question the future of humanity. We are a bit jealous though because those YouTube trendsetters are laughing all the way to the bank because of their videos.
