Each and every year, technology continues to grow at exponential rates as social media platforms continue to dominate the market as one of the biggest forms of communication and interaction between celebrities and their fans. However, as celebrities continue to make these seemly harmless posts on social media, they seem to forget that each and every post has the ability to give fans a false sense of connection with the celebrity.

While harmless at first, it is when these fans start to develop an obsession that things start to go a little haywire—especially when their obsession changes the course of history. This form of over the top obsession has been described by professionals as Celebrity Worship Syndrome—a very real syndrome that can often be categorized into different forms such as obsessive, erotic, or full-blown pathological.

These rather "rare" cases of extreme celebrity worship are quickly on the rise, which is why it should come as no surprise that the latest must-have feature in all celebrity homes is a panic room. These specially designed areas are created to ensure that every member of the household is safe and secure behind steel doors, along with an alarm system that will sound until further help arrives.

So, here are five times that super fans took their obsession way too far and overstepped their bounds.

One Fan Crawled Through A Vent To Get To Ricky Martin

When it comes to creativity, this particular fan encounter may just take the cake. The Puerto Rican singer, Ricky Martin, retold the event during an interview with British TV Show This Morning as he claims that someone once broke into a hotel ventilation system to get into the stars room.

During the interview, Martin stated “[I was] walking around my room naked and I hear this [noise]. I’m like, someone is in this room. They were in the vents. They found a way to into the ventilation of the room. But you know what, I had to take a picture with them, and [sign] autographs and everything, because really, they were… I’m still talking about it.”

Despite Martin’s take on the event, it must be scary to realize that some fans will stop at nothing to meet their idols.

A Fan Once Swam To A Celebrity's Beach Side Home

One particular Taylor Swift fan decided to take things a little bit too far when he attempted to swim to the singer’s Rhode Island beach home.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. after police spotted the fan getting out of the ocean about one mile from Swift’s home. When questioned by the police about what he was doing in the water, the man admitted that he was swimming to the singer’s house with intentions to meet her, but eventually decided to turn back after spotting her security team.

After a two-mile round trip in freezing cold water, the 22-year-old male from Chicago was taken into custody and later charged with trespassing.

A Fan Lived In One Celebrity's Pool House For Days

In 2013, Jennifer Lopez fell victim to a home invasion as one rather obsessed fan—John M. Dubis—was found living in her Hampton’s property for days without anyone noticing.

Despite Lopez reportedly being off the property at the time, security was in place, but the intruder still managed to somehow go unnoticed. Unfortunately, though, this isn’t the first time that J.Lo has suffered a run-in with Dubis as she placed an order of protection against him after he contracted her mother earlier in the year.

Although Dubis was eventually found and charged with burglary, stalking, and criminal contempt, we think we can all agree that it may be time for J.Lo to invest in some better security.

The Murder Of A Music Icon

When it comes to celebrity obsession, Mark David Chapman takes things to a whole nother level as the obsessed fan went as far as murdering one of the biggest music icons in the world.

The incident occurred on December 8, 1980, when Chapman shot John Lennon several times in the back as he waited outside of the musician New York City home. What makes this situation so odd is the simple fact that Chapman remained at the scene after committing the horrific crime, in which officers found him reading The Catcher in the Rye.

Despite an attempt at an insanity plea, Chapman later pled guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to twenty to life. As of 2016, Chapman has been denied parole a total of nine times.

A Fan Spent 150k To Look Like Kim Kardashian

As surprising as it may be, this time it isn’t the Kardashian’s making the headlines, but instead a British make-up artist – Jordan James Parke – who has gone to the extreme lengths of trying to replicate Kim Kardashian’s unique look.

After countless procedures which include two nose jobs, a chin implant, 50 lip-filling operations, eyebrow tattoos, Botox injections in several areas, and even laser hair removal, Parke is almost completely unrecognizable to his pre-surgery photos. Kim isn’t the only Kardashian that Parke has taken inspiration from as his new chin is actually inspired by her sister, Kylie Jenner.

Parke has since revealed that he has spent more than $150,000 to achieve his dramatic transformations.
