WWE hasn’t always been underneath their current PG banner. Before it was rebranded into World Wrestling Entertainment, it was basically a show for adults. It included many Bra and Panty Matches from hot divas, and many moments that would be considered “too much” TV for this generation. The women of this era were not watched for their wrestling skills. They were instead hired for their looks, and as a way of bringing in more male fans.
It wasn’t just the divas that were sexualized either. The language that was used on WWE TV pre-2002 was a lot riskier than what is currently deemed acceptable. Goldust’s character was one of the most sexual characters ever shown on TV. Val Venis was also another sexualized character in WWE at the time. Not only did his name rhyme with a part of the male genitalia, but his character was actually an adult film star that often made movies with the spouses of whichever superstar he was feuding with.
It was obviously a lot more acceptable in the 1990s to have characters that pushing the boundaries of what was acceptable, but as the following list shows, there were already enough sexual references on WWE TV to leave fans scarred for life:
10. Trish and The Limo
Trish Stratus and Vince McMahon had some risky story lines during their time together in WWE. One of the most adult-orientated ones was when it seemed that Trish and Vince were having sex in the back of a limo. Trish was seen talking to someone inside the limo before she climbed in, and after the show returned from break, Stratus was moaning loudly. Stephanie then headed to the limo because she thought that her father was in there with Trish. It was revealed that Trish wasn’t in there anymore and she had only done it to lure Stephanie outside.
Goldust’s entire career could be listed here as a sexual moment. His character was made for a generation that was obsessed with sex, and then they were forced to tone it down after WWE was given a watershed. Goldust’s character was so sexualized that he was once escorted to the ring while wearing what looked like an entire bondage set up including a spiky bra, a pink ball gag and a customized zimmer frame. This was obviously seen as much more acceptable to the WWE crowd back then.
8. Trish Barks Like A Dog
Perhaps not the most sexual moment in WWE history, but it certainly was the one that most men found arousing. Trish Stratus was one of the top divas in WWE, and Vince McMahon forced her to strip in the middle of the ring. Of course, Trish was not a fan of this. It was a way for McMahon to humiliate Trish. She still went along with it, kneeling down and barking like a dog when he asked her to. She did, however, go on to become a record setting seven-time Women’s Champion and Hall of Famer, so at least this story has a happy ending.
7. Dawn Marie and Torrie’s Dad
Dawn Marie and Torrie were good friends on screen until the former began dating Wilson’s father Al. They then entered a feud that lasted until Al and Dawn were officially married in 2003 – in their underwear. Then Dawn tackled Al to the ground so that the couple could share a kiss. This was all before they headed off to consummate the marriage. The duo consummated the marriage to the extent where it was too much for the much older man – and it actually killed him.
6. Katie Vick and Triple H
It was perhaps one of the strangest and creepiest scenes ever produced by WWE. During a feud between Triple H and Kane, it was revealed that Kane had a girlfriend named Katie Vick who died in a car crash after the duo had been out drinking. Triple H then decided to re-enact an “intimate moment” between Kane and Katie by heading to the mortuary and apparently having sex with her body. She was obviously played by a mannequin and any fan of WWE who watched the clip was embarrassed for the company. Triple H was dedicated to his role, and it made the whole feud much more entertaining.
5. Sable Reveals Her Playboy Cover
Years before WWE allowed Ashley to reveal her Playboy cover in her own unique way, Sable was actually the first Diva to attempt something like this. Divas bikini contests were a rite of passage in WWE in the late 1990s and early 2000s. However, at a Fully Loaded in 1998, Sable decided to try something different. Sable faced Jacqueline in the bikini contest, and after exclaiming that it was live TV and there was nothing Vince McMahon could do about it, Sable removed her top to reveal two hand prints covering her breasts. This became one of her most defining moments in the promotion.
4. Miss Kitty Reveals All
Miss Kitty (or The Kat) was always trying to bend the rules on WWE shows. She was a big fan of showing off her body, and she shockingly managed to get away with this twice on live TV. Once when she was known as Miss Kitty, she stripped two other women down to their underwear to win the match before she then revealed her own breasts on live TV. She later revealed her chest again after an arm wrestling match with Terri Runnels, when her opponent ripped off her shirt.
3. Mickie vs. Trish at WrestleMania
Mickie James and Trish Stratus had a fantastic rivalry that engulfed the Women’s Division throughout 2005 until the pair collided at WrestleMania 22. The match is still widely considered to be one of the best ever women’s matches, but there will always be a part of the match that WWE edits out on the Network. Trish had Mickie in position to deliver Stratusfaction, but the psychotic diva then grabbed the Women’s Champion between the legs tightly before pulling her hand out and licking her fingers. Vince was said to have been furious at Mickie for this and stated that it was crass.
2. Kelly Kelly’s Extreme Expose
Kelly Kelly was signed to WWE when they were launching their version of ECW and decided that Kelly’s Extreme Expose could become a weekly section on the show that was broadcast on Sci-Fi. This segment was literally just Kelly Kelly performing a raunchy strip tease to music every week. She was later joined by Diva Search contestants Layla El and Brooke as the trio became known as Extreme Expose and began dancing in scantily clad clothing in the middle of the ring. Luckily, ECW was cancelled shortly after and Kelly then became a credible wrestler.
1. Edge and Lita’s Live Sex Celebration
There was a reason that Edge was called The Rated R Superstar. Edge proved that he was rated R when he cashed in the first ever Money in the Bank Briefcase at New Year’s Revolution in 2006 and decided to have a live sex celebration in the middle of the ring along with Lita the following night on Raw. This celebration saw the duo undress each other before disappearing under a duvet where Lita’s breast accidentally fell out and was seen by the entire WWE Universe. This was thought to have been one of the steamiest moments of WWE’s new era.
