8 WrestleMania XXX Match Projections

The WWE has not provided many hints on television as to what feuds we’ll see culminate at WrestleMania XXX in New Orleans. We know that Batista won the Royal Rumble and will be the no.1 contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, but not much else.

We’ve seen in the past that wrestlers may be added to the title match even without winning the Royal Rumble. WrestleMania 16 saw Mick Foley and Big Show added to form a Fatal-4-Way. WrestleMania XX turned into a triple threat with Shawn Michaels added to the mix. Randy Orton was in a Triple Threat with Rey Mysterio and Kurt Angle in 2006, and finally Big Show joined the fray at WrestleMania XXV with Edge and John Cena. Anything can happen in the coming weeks of WWE television. Feuds will begin and we’ll get a clearer idea of who will clash on April 6.

There’s still so much that can happen. Fans are still hoping that CM Punk‘s issues with the company will be resolved and that he ends up at WrestleMania as well. We know now that Hulk Hogan will be hosting the big event, which is so fitting. The man who made WrestleMania as big as it is dating back to the first one will be there again 30 years later. Any wrestling fan has to be excited about Hogan coming back home.

We’ll have the glitz and glamour come WrestleMania. Being that it’s the 30th event in the show’s history, Vince McMahon will try to make it as big as possible. We’ll see some surprises, get our nostalgia fix and memories will be created. The foundation of any great WrestleMania though, is obviously the card itself. You can season a turd all you want, but it’s still a turd. The meat has to be of the highest quality and that’s the only way we’ll get a great WrestleMania. The average WrestleMania card is about eight matches, so here are the matches I believe we’ll see at the Superdome in April.

8. Four Corners Tag Team Match for the World Tag Team Championship – New Age Outlaws (C) vs. The Usos vs. The Real Americans vs. The Rhodes Brothers

New Age Outlaws

The nostalgia may be starting to wear off from the New Age Outlaws, but I see their return to full-time television just being through WrestleMania. Something that was meant to add some depth to the tag-team division in the short term. Ultimately, they will put over a new tag team at WrestleMania, which I believe will be the Usos. Initially I thought the Rhodes brothers would split and we’d see Cody Rhodes vs. Goldust at WrestleMania, but I think they’ve worked so well as a team, they’ll be kept together for a while. A four-corners tag match ensures that the WWE’s best tag teams all get a chance to shine at WrestleMania.

I see the Usos getting the win here and finally being given a chance to lead the tag division. I also see one team falling apart in this match. Cesaro is getting cheered more and more by the WWE fans. His matches are amazing and his persona is very likeable. Expect him to break away from Jack Swagger and get an enormous pop at the big event. He’s ready to go out on his own and work his way to the top of the card, hopefully by WrestleMania XXXI.

7. Big E (C) vs. Mark Henry for the Intercontinental Championship:

A main reason why I was so happy when the WWE and World Heavyweight championships were unified, was that it’d give a chance for all titles to be defended regularly at pay-per-views. The value of the Intercontinental title was diminished with the presence of two World titles, but now it’s a much bigger deal to be IC champ. I think Big E is bound to be a star for WWE in the near future and I believe WrestleMania will be an important step in moving towards that. WWE made a mistake last year in not giving Ryback the big WrestleMania win over Mark Henry. Henry is close to retirement and should help make new stars. Giving Big E a win over the world’s strongest man will be a nice start. Big E should dominate as IC champ for a while and have a long title run before making the jump to the main event. A WrestleMania win is a must.

Mark Henry can easily turn heel between now and April 6 and how impressive would it be if Big E knocks him off?

6. Dean Ambrose (C) vs. Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns for the US Championship

The downfall of the Shield has been teased for months now and it seems to be one of those storylines that could only end at WrestleMania. I personally don’t feel like the Shield has done anything memorable as a unit for quite a while. They merely act as henchmen for Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. The only way we’ll see if Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns will be top stars is if they break off on their own.

Dean Ambrose happens to still hold the United States championship. He hasn’t held a title defence at a pay-per-view in months and now is the time to finally see it. Sometime between now and WrestleMania we’ll see the Shield turn on each other. Roman Reigns seems to be the guy that WWE will be pushing as their next huge star. He set a Royal Rumble record with 12 eliminations this year and has been the powerhouse of the group. Expect him to get the win in New Orleans.

5. John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt

Royal Rumble 2014 Wyatt Family and John Cena

I personally would not like to see this match, but it seems to be the direction the WWE is going, and remember this list is about projecting, not desiring. Personally, I don’t enjoy Bray Wyatt’s promos and he says a whole lot of nothing. Many point to his great match with Daniel Bryan at the Royal Rumble as validation for him, but I say, when does Daniel Bryan ever have a bad match?

Now having said that, what happened at the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber was Bray Wyatt costing John Cena the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in a match with Randy Orton. That can’t be dismissed, and eventually Cena is going to get his revenge on the Wyatt family. I think this is too low on the card for Cena. Just think, he headlined the last two WrestleManias with The Rockand now he’s on a mid-card match against Wyatt? Nevertheless, Cena is a company man and will do what’s asked. The easy answer would be Cena getting the win because he’s such a huge star, but maybe the WWE will throw us a curveball with so many babyfaces usually getting the win at WrestleMania. Maybe they’ll want to put Wyatt over Cena as a way to truly establish a new star. Cena’s been saying in promos if anyone wants to climb to the top of the WWE, they have to go through him. That probably comes to a head at WrestleMania.

4. Daniel Bryan vs. Triple H

Triple H Cena Bryan

Why the SummerSlam poster? That’s where it all started. Triple H screwed Daniel Bryan over and allowed Randy Orton to cash in his Money in the Bank. Triple H has continued to screw Daniel Bryan over time and time again. WrestleMania is all about payoffs, so expect Bryan to finally get his signature WrestleMania win over Triple H. I was hoping Shawn Michaels would come out of retirement to face his protogé, but that doesn’t appear to be happening.

This was rumoured to be CM Punk‘s spot, but obviously plans have to change with CM Punk no longer in the picture. It does make more sense for Bryan to face Triple H and validate himself to the Authority as an A+ player. I fully expect to see Bryan making Triple H submit to the YES lock. I also don’t expect Bryan’s night to end here.

3. WrestleMania Battle Royal

Every WrestleMania has to give you a little break in the main action, a sideshow if you will. It being WrestleMania XXX, a nice round number, you want as many of your superstars on the card as possible and a Battle Royal is a good way to make that happen. Bill it as a ‘Mr. WrestleMania’ Battle Royal, or something to that effect. Take the guys who don’t have spots on the card and throw them in here. Sprinkle in some legends to give the nostalgia fans crave at WrestleMania. There’s not a lot of thought process behind this, but there doesn’t have to be. It’s WrestleMania. Give guys a spot. Bring back old names. Give the main card a reprieve.

2. Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker

WM29_Photo_150

Seeing the Undertaker defend his streak at WrestleMania has arguably become the event’s biggest attraction. For several years, I have looked forward to the Deadman’s return more than any title match. This year, I would guess that Taker will put his streak on the line against Brock Lesnar because Lesnar doesn’t appear to be getting a title shot and his thinking in the storyline will be, “if I can’t take the title, I’ll do what no man has done and end the streak.”

The two men faced off several times back in 2002 and 2003 but that won’t stop WWE. They brought Lesnar back for marquee matches only and Undertaker is one. This will likely be No Holds Barred and we’ll see a violent brawl with the Undertaker taking a huge beating, but finding a way to take down the beast. What I’m hoping for is (with rumours of Sting making his way to WWE) for Sting to appear on the entrance ramp following the match and point his signature bat at the Undertaker, setting the two legends up for a clash at WrestleMania XXXI in Santa Clara, California.

1. Main Event – WWE World Heavyweight Championship Randy Orton (C) vs. Batista…. vs. Daniel Bryan

Daniel-Bryan-10

The WWE really shot themselves in the foot by booking Batista to win the Royal Rumble. Fans haven’t taken to Batista nearly as well as WWE envisioned and now they’re stuck with him in a main event at WrestleMania with a stale Randy Orton as champion.

Bret Hart pulled double duty back at WrestleMania X and ended the night winning the title and that’s what has to happen for the guy WWE fans have embraced as their favorite. That special moment Daniel Bryan had at SummerSlam where he was briefly champion has to happen for good in New Orleans. WWE has to end the night with the most positive reaction possible, and the only way that happens is if Daniel Bryan is inserted into the main event and comes out on top, ending months and months of frustration for the character and his fans.

This is also where I see Hulk Hogan playing a pivotal role as the host. Following Daniel Bryan’s win against Triple H, Hogan, perhaps the biggest fan favourite in history vows to give the people what they want and give Hulkamaniacs one last gift, their hand-picked man Daniel Bryan getting a shot at the title. Hogan butts heads with the Authority and Daniel Bryan ends the night celebrating in confetti, fireworks and 80,000 fans in New Orleans chanting YES! YES! YES! That’s the big payoff that needs to happen at WrestleMania and one that will be etched into WrestleMania history forever.
