No one can deny that Shawn Michaels is one of the biggest WWE superstars ever to have lived. He has been involved in a countless number of intense and memorable matches and can be recognized by some who aren’t even WWE fans to begin with.
Although, beyond the stage and the ring, Shawn Michaels lived a very turbulent life that definitely had its fair share of ups and downs. Nonetheless, his fans could still relate to him throughout his career, and it was largely them who pushed him on. Michaels has even admitted at various points, how he could be very difficult to work with at times, and would want everything his way. Michaels largely regrets these former actions now, and while his performances may have earned him some of the most fans of any professional WWE wrestler in history, his behavior also earned him a number of enemies inside the ring.
Nonetheless, Michaels recently made headlines for turning away from his former selfish ways and becoming a born-again Christian, and is currently a Bible teacher in his hometown of San Antonio, Texas. But despite Michael’s conversion, his enemies have not seemingly forgave his past. There are still many of his fellow WWE wrestlers who legitimately hate him, despite the fact that his behavior has reportedly improved. Here are the top ten WWE wrestlers who have legitimately hated Shawn Michaels.
10. Jim Cornette
Jim Cornette has stated numerous times that he flat out, does not like Shawn Michaels, due to the superstar’s previous bad attitude, arrogance and disrespect. Everyone can agree that Michaels was arrogant at one point, but Cornette continues to hold a deep grudge against him to this day, despite Michaels’ change in behavior.
9. Chris Candido
Reports suggest that, at one point in Michaels’ earlier career, he would have had an affair with a WWE diva named Tammy ‘Sunny’ Sytch, who was also the wife of another WWE wrestler, Chris Candido. Candido repeatedly denied the affair, numerous times in interviews. To this day, whether or not the affair actually happened is unknown. Despite this, many close friends of Candido reported that he had an intense, private hatred for Michaels. Unfortunately, Candido passed away in 2005.
8. Kurt Angle
Kurt Angle is known for holding grudges against many wrestlers in the WWE world, but none more so than Shawn Michaels. Angle has made numerous disparaging and insulting comments to or about Michaels, numerous times in his career, and also has claimed that Michaels simply isn’t as talented a wrestler as he is. Eventually, Angle became so publicly negative towards Michaels that Vince McMahon himself, privately told Angle to keep much of his comments to himself.
7. The Harris Brothers
The two Harris Brothers (Don and Ron) were a couple of the biggest WWE wrestling superstars themselves, but somewhere in the middle of their careers, they first encountered Shawn Michaels and took an instant disliking to him. They have publicly announced their dislike of the fellow wrestlers in numerous interviews. It was even reported that at one time, they decided to confront Michaels in the locker room and ordered everybody but Michaels out. While Ron guarded the door, Don picked up Michaels by the throat, and then they both laughed at him as they dropped him back to the ground, gasping for breath.
6. Greg Helms
Greg Helms is a unique entry on this list, as his dislike for Shawn Michaels wasn’t the result of Michaels’ attitude in the past. Rather, Helms’ dislike towards Michaels started after he had converted to Christianity and changed his ways. This is because Helms claims that Michaels is not really a changed man, or at least, not to the extent that many people believe, and Michaels subsequently let him down as a person.
5. Hulk Hogan
At the height of his career, Hulk Hogan felt largely threatened by Shawn Michaels, as he was rapidly ascending to the top. This led to a well known feud between the two, but many close friends of the two reported that Hogan had an intense dislike for Michaels. Eventually, the two met in a match on Raw, where Hogan claimed victory and defeated Michaels. Michaels congratulated Hogan on his victory following the match, but Hogan took this as an offense and his dislike for him only seemed to grow.
4. Shane Douglas
Shane Douglas has made it no secret that he immensely dislikes Michaels for his disrespectful and arrogant behavior. According to some sources, before a match in Germany, Michaels yelled into Douglas’s locker room that he was going to embarrass him at the match. Douglas reported the incident to those in charge, and they changed the script in the match so that Michaels couldn’t do anything. Nonetheless, Douglas continued to hold a grudge against Michaels, and that has continued to this day.
3. Bret Hart
At one time, Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels were two of the biggest rivals in the world of professional wrestling, and both men have admitted to hating the other, both inside and outside of the ring. Both men were determined to become the biggest WWE superstars of all time, and it all culminated in the Montreal Screwjob.
2. The Undertaker
The good news is that currently, The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels are on good speaking terms. But before, they most certainly were not, and had a very infamous rivalry. Reportedly, The Undertaker verbally threatened Michaels just before matches would begin, most notably at WrestleMania XIV. Even while the two were on stage in the ring preparing to fight, The Undertaker repeatedly displayed his intense dislike for Michaels. The feud between the two became one of the most well known in WWE history, and fans all across the board lined up to either support The Undertaker or Michaels.
1. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
You may be a little shocked that Dwayne ‘the Rock’ Johnson is on this list, let alone number one. But The Rock’s reported hatred of Michaels is actually one of the most less publicized of any entry on this list. But the reason why The Rock makes the number one spot is because he is the only wrestler on this list who’s intense dislike for Michaels began before their career at WWE.
Reportedly, Michaels was very disrespectful towards The Rock’s own grandmother when they met before WWE, when The Rock was only a teenager. No one knows exactly what Michaels said, but we know that it set off The Rock so much, that he seriously considered challenging Michaels to a street fight. When the two joined WWE, The Rock quickly rose to the top, and Michaels did everything he could to bring him down. This only fueled The Rock’s dislike for Michaels. The feud between the Rock and Michaels may have been the most personal of any of the wrestlers on this list but fortunately, they seem to be on better terms now.
