As the old saying goes, behind every great man is an even greater woman. That mantra certainly seems to ring true in the world of professional wrestling. Without the support of their significant others, some of the most successful World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstars may not have garnered their huge fan bases, won the championship titles they have, or reached the pinnacles they have. Some wives and girlfriends of WWE wrestlers have accomplished plenty on their own as well, and many certainly don’t depend on the fame of their husbands and boyfriends.
Some of the women of this list are superstars in the WWE themselves and have proven to be even more popular and successful than their male counterparts, while others are devoted homemakers or successes in other careers. Some of these women have devoted their lives to their WWE star hubbies and, as WWE fans know, that is not an easy task considering the extreme personalities of some of the wrestlers on this list. Some have been there for better or for worse and, despite the high rate of divorce in the world of celebrities, it seems many of these women will be with their husbands for many years to come. Here’s a look at the women behind ten of the world’s biggest wrestling superstars.
10. Jennifer McDaniel, married to Hulk Hogan
Hulk Hogan’s current wife (his second) is 21 years younger than him, and he says this marriage is going much better than the last. McDaniel married Hulk Hogan, real name Terry Gene Bollea, in 2010. Hulk Hogan’s previous marriage was rocky at best. His first wife, Linda Claridge, divorced him in 2009, and there were numerous reports of cheating and abuse between the couple.
9. Kristin Austin, married to Stone Cold Steve Austin
WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin married his fourth wife, Kristin Austin (nee Feres), in 2009. The couple lives on their ranch in Texas, and the marriage has been a solid one, which is something that can’t be said about Stone Cold’s previous marriages. Stone Cold Steve Austin was arrested and charged with domestic abuse against his previous wife, former WWE Diva Debra Marshall, in 2002.
8. Lauren Hashian, dating The Rock
WWE legend and Hollywood actor Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson has been dating his current girlfriend, Lauren Hashian, since the two met on the set of the Disney movie The Game Plan. Hashian is the daughter of Boston drummer John “Sib” Hashian. The celebrity couple is rarely seen in public together and have only been seen side by side at two red carpet Hollywood premieres: Hercules and G.I. Joe Retaliation.
7. Michelle McCool, married to the Undertaker
Two time WWE Divas Champion and two time WWE Women’s Champion Michelle McCool married WWE/WWF legend Mark William Calaway, better known as the Undertaker, in 2010. She has appeared on numerous reality shows including the WWE edition of Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?, Project Runway and Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition. McCool is the Undertaker’s third wife, and she is a retired WWE wrestler just like her husband.
6. Nikki Bella, dating John Cena
Nikki Bella, along with her sister Brie Bella, is part of the WWE Divas tag team known as the Bella Twins. Nikki Bella has been dating WWE superstar John Cena since 2012. She won the WWE Divas Championship in 2012, and she and her sister have both starred in the WWE reality show Total Divas. Both sisters won the Slammy Award for Diva of the Year in 2013.
5. Colette Foley, married to Mick Foley
WWF/WWE legend Mick Foley and his wife Colette have raised four children together, and the couple has been married since 1992. In his first book, Have a Nice Day: A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks, Foley wrote about a phone conversation he had with his wife after the legendary Hell in a Cell match which left Foley bruised and battered. During the match, Mick Foley suffered a concussion, and his wife was crying throughout the phone call, which prompted him to consider retirement. The couple appeared on Celebrity Wife Swap with Antonio Sabàto, Jr. and his fiancé, Cheryl Moana Marie Nunes.
4. Stephanie McMahon, married to Triple H
Stephanie McMahon, WWE star and daughter of WWE CEO Vince McMahon, married WWF/WWE superstar Paul Levesque, better known as Triple H, in 2003. The couple was married on screen before they were married in real life, and their “divorce” was an ongoing WWE storyline in the early noughties.
3. AJ Lee, married to CM Punk
April Jeanette Mendez, better known under her WWE stage name AJ Lee, married fellow WWE superstar CM Punk earlier this year. CM Punk is now retired from wrestling, but AJ Lee continues to dominate in the league. She has won the WWE Divas Championship twice and has the longest streak ever as a WWE Divas Champion at 295 days. She is an avid fan of video games and won the WWE ’12 Superstar Challenge, when she defeated Mark Henry.
2. Kitty Toombs, married to Rowdy Roddy Piper
WWF/WWE legend Rowdy Roddy Piper, real name Roderick George Toombs, has been married to his wife Kitty since 1979, and the two have raised four children together. The couple famously appeared on Celebrity Wife Swap when Rowdy Roddy Piper swapped wives with a fellow WWF/WWE legend Ric Flair. The contrast between the wrestling superstars’ family lives was stark. Flair has been married four times, and Rowdy Roddy Piper’s wife Kitty was not impressed by Flair’s flashy and extravagant lifestyle.
1. Jennifer Hudson, engaged to David Otunga
Academy Award winner and American Idol finalist Jennifer Hudson became engaged to two-time WWE Tag Team Champion David Otunga after he proposed in 2008. The couple met just one year earlier, and have since had a child together. Their son was born in 2009, and they named him David Daniel Otunga Jr. The couple has yet to tie the knot, and there has been some speculation that the delay is due to Otunga having returned to wrestling full time against Hudson’s wishes.
