10 Real Life Wrestling Love Scandals That Ended Horribly

It turns out professional wrestlers are just as prone to making the same poor life decisions as the rest of us. Of course the fact that they spend the majority of their time on the road, are famous and possibly rich may make life’s temptations all the more difficult to turn down. An industry littered with tales of infidelity and drama, in this article, we will be looking at some of the biggest romantic scandals that rocked their world.

One very notable example that we left off our list is the often rumoured relationship that may have taken place between Macho Man Randy Savage and Stephanie McMahon. Since nobody involved has ever confirmed the reports (and likely never will), it is nothing more than conjecture in our eyes.

10. John Morrison/Melina/Batista

Macho Man and Miss Elizabeth, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella – some wrestling couples have become forever intertwined in the minds of fans. John Morrison and Melina, despite being apart for years now, are yet another example of that phenomenon.

If long-standing reports that are backed by the likes of Val Venis, Paul London and Brian Kendrick are to be believed, Melina and WWE main eventer, Batista, hooked up during their relationship. There is zero doubt they were involved at one time, as the big man confirmed in his book that their friendship became physical but that she was single at the time. For her part, during an interview with Jim Ross, Melina made it seem like they were merely friends. Many WWE employees at the time who were not a part of the triangle have spoken about their belief that Vince McMahon lost respect for Morrison because he didn’t stick up for himself.

9. Vince McMahon/Rita Marie and a tanning bar employee/Linda McMahon

A famed businessman, who for years had some of his gorgeous female performers cavort in front of him, his deeds in real life are equally perverse if the claims are true. The first woman to publically accuse him of harassment was also the first woman employed by the WWF as a referee. Appearing on a show hosted by Geraldo Rivera, Rita Marie as she was known asserted that Vinnie Mac, after attempting to convince her to give him sexual favors, forced himself upon her.

Many, many years later, a 22-year-old employee of Tanzabar, a tanning bar, levied charges against him that after asking her to photograph him, Vince showed her some nude photos of himself. After being asked to stop, he got his tan but before leaving he tried to kiss her and lift up her shirt. After an investigation into the matter, the police declined to press any charges on the wrestling honcho.

8. Zahra Schreiber/Seth Rollins/Leighla Schultz

Considered one of the best wrestlers and all around performers in sports entertainment today, Seth Rollins spent several months in 2015 as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, a fact that may have surprised many due to his smaller stature as well as the controversy that took place on Twitter only a few months earlier.

First a photo of then NXT performer, Zahra Schreiber, was posted to Seth’s account before his then fiancée Leighla Schultz posted two totally revealing photos Seth to her own account. A few hours later, Rollins posted a public apology and amazingly walked away from the mess without any noticeable on-air repercussions. One of the more unlikely elements of the story was the fact that Schreiber’s nude photo appeared briefly on the official WWE webpage, since it automatically grabs and posts tweets put up by their stars.

7. Ata Johnson/Rocky Johnson/Luann Crable

A WWE Hall of Famer who is most famous these days for being the father of The Rock, Rocky Johnson spent years on the road as an active competitor. A blood brother of the famed Anoaʻi wrestling family, a group that value family over everything else, Rocky may not have towed his new family’s line.

Luann Crable, an otherwise unknown woman, came out in 2013 with claims that she had carried on an affair with the tag-team specialist for twenty-five years. While talking to Star Magazine, she said that she first slept with Johnson in 1979 after he pretended to be unattached. Furthermore, according to the interview, their tryst came to his wife and their twelve-year-old son’s attention, causing a major rift in their family. For his part, Rocky has denied that he ever entered into a relationship with Ms. Crable, but she did provide a photo of her sitting in his lap.

6. Kurt Angle/Karen Angle/Jeff Jarrett

Kurt Angle is an amazing athlete and incredible entertainer who took to the pro wrestling world faster than pretty much anyone else. Unfortunately, the drive that made him so great came with a few consequences and after developing a drug habit he was released by the WWE to the shock of just about everyone. Almost immediately transitioning to TNA, he went to work alongside one of that company’s founders, Jeff Jarrett.

When Karen Angle, Kurt’s wife, joined him onscreen, it may have seemed like a great idea to him but having her spend so much time with the boys may not have worked out the way he envisioned. The exact timeline of events is not exactly clear but what is known is this. Kurt and Karen Angle got a divorce, Jeff Jarrett’s wife died of cancer and Jeff and Karen began sleeping together. Before all of the events came to light, Dixie reportedly asked Jeff if he was sleeping with her biggest star’s ex-wife and he denied it. When the true nature of their relationship came to light, Jeff was sent home from the company he helped to create. In the years since the trio seems to have come to peace.

5. Kenn Doane/Mickie James/John Cena/Elizabeth Huberdeau

On television, John Cena plays the closest thing to a wrestling boy scout, the ultimate good guy who always sticks up for what is right; he portrays himself as a hero. Of course, in real life, holding his persona against him is silly but when reports surfaced that he may have cheated on his wife it had to be surprising to his fans that heard about it.

According to Kenn Doane, the former fiancée of the immensely talented female wrestler, Mickie James, she revealed to him that the she had cheated on him with Cena, who was married at the time. A member of The Spirit Squad at the time of the supposed tryst, Kenny isn’t the only person who says John cheated. Other wrestlers have backed up his claims but most substantially, John’s own ex-wife in court papers asserted that she was approached by several people about his infidelity. Ultimately coming to an agreement outside of court, the details were never sussed out in a court of law but it seems pretty obvious that in this case the smoke was the result of a fire.

4. Jerry Lawler/The Kat & another man

Jerry “The King” Lawler, a wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer, has been employed by Vince McMahon’s company since 1992, other some months in 2001. After his wife, Stacy “The Kat” Carter was unceremoniously fired from the company, without what he deemed as a good reason, he quit the company in protest. A decision he seemed to regret as he returned to the fold nine months later.

Rejoining the commentary table after he had begun divorce proceedings with the woman that first inspired him to leave in the first place, Jerry didn’t seem to miss a beat. In his personal life, things were not so rosy, however. Writing in his book, It’s Good to Be King…Sometimes, Jerry wrote that after the attention their television roles provided dried up, Stacy started to cheat on him and divorced him. A relationship that took a marvelous commentator, at the time, away from the wrestling world, coming to an end so quickly afterwards made a huge mark on wrestling at the time.

3. Matt Hardy/Lita/Edge

Matt Hardy and Lita were a part of a trio known as Team Xtreme, alongside Matt’s brother Jeff, during The Attitude Era. A time when wrestling was far more popular than it is today, Matt and Lita began dating both on and off screen, which led to their throngs of fans becoming very invested in their relationship.

When Matt suffered a severe knee injury that forced him to stay home and mend for nearly a year, Lita became closer to their mutual friend Edge, who she eventually cheated on Hardy with. One of the first wrestlers to truly embrace the internet, Matt had a website where many photos of the two appeared. When all traces of Lita were removed, fans asked why and before long, he told the full story of her infidelity, which was seen as unprofessional and since Edge was a bigger star, Matt was released. Outraged, fans never let the issue go and after months of chants dogging Edge and Lita, Matt was rehired and entered into a short feud with The Rated R Superstar that he lost and rejoined the roster.

2. Chyna/Triple H/Stephanie McMahon

When Hunter Hearst Helmsley first introduced his massively muscled valet Chyna, the wrestling world had no idea the two were in a long-term relationship for years. A ground-breaking performer, Chyna became a massive star for the WWE in her own right. Then suddenly while holding the Women’s Championship, she disappeared without even dropping the belt, never to work for the McMahons again.

Though Stephanie and Trips have never spoken publicly about her departure, it seems reasonable to think that her exit from the company was linked to Triple H’s new squeeze. Chyna has confirmed that idea in several interviews, where she has said again and again that the two got together behind her back while she was still dating Hunter. Although Jim Ross stated at the time that she asked for her release, whether that is true or not as she claimed, she was sent a fax saying she wasn’t needed – love interceded in a promising career.

1. Hulk Hogan/Heather Clem/Bubba the Love Sponge

It has been years since Hulk Hogan was the man who said his prayers and ate his vitamins but not too long ago, he was still a very viable attraction. Today, his star quotient has taken a massive hit that all began when footage of him having sex with his friend’s wife was released. Hogan alleges he was recorded without his consent or knowledge; his dalliance was released to the public in the form of a short preview clip by Gawker.com.

Embarrassed, The Hulkster managed to escape that controversy with his career intact but when he chose to sue the website he unwittingly started a countdown clock to his own implosion. It turned out that earlier on in the recording, Hulk uttered some truly racist and vile words that came to light in the run-up to the case. If Hulk’s account of the origin of the tape is real, we by no means blame him for filing suit but had he not taken part in the recording or gone to court, he likely would still be gainfully employed to this day.
