The Undertaker is one of the most famous wrestlers of all time. His career has eclipsed WWE and he is also in possession of the longest undefeated streak in WrestleMania history.
Sadly, it all ended at WrestleMania 30 when “The Streak” was broken by Brock Lesnar. The Undertaker wasn’t seen for an entire year, returning to defeat Bray Wyatt the following year.
This year was no different; he defeated Shane McMahon in his famous Hell in a Cell Match before disappearing from WWE TV. This has become the way of Undertaker’s career over the past few years, he’s the perfect candidate for playing the role of a Deadman because he manages to pull it off so well. But The Undertaker has a much softer side.
WWE doesn’t often publicize the great things that Undertaker does for his fans. Some fans are still determined to prove that The Undertaker really is a demon, but the following list of 10 stories will prove beyond all doubt that The Undertaker isn’t really a bad guy outside of the ring.
10. Make A Wish
Back in 2010, a video was uploaded to YouTube that showed Undertaker granting a young fan a wish of a lifetime when he went and met Amanda for the first time.
Amanda was a huge fan of The Deadman, and her one wish was to have the chance to meet him. He made her wish come true and she is visibly speechless at the fact that she is meeting one of her heroes. Undertaker also gave the youngster a signed T-shirt and WrestleMania merchandise as a way for her to remember the incredible occasion.
9. Meeting A Famous Fan
When Lesnar ended The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania 30, there was one fan in particular that was more shocked than anyone else. Ellis Mbeh has become known all over the world as “Shocked Undertaker Guy” after the image of his face went viral.
Ellis finally came face-to-face with The Deadman at WrestleMania 32 this past month when he travelled to the WrestleMania Axxess event and took pictures with his hero. Once again, The Undertaker was seen giving back to his loyal fanbase and Ellis was able to thank the man who made him a star.
8. He Once Stopped A Car Jacking
The Undertaker is an intimidating presence (there is no doubt about that), but early in his career, he was travelling with Brother Love when they found themselves in a rough part of town. They decided it would be a good idea to stop and ask for some directions.
The situation turned nasty and there was about to be a carjacking until the would-be thieves turned around and noticed him sitting staring at them from the car. The Undertaker didn’t even have to move to scare them away – one look from him and the thieves decided to leave it for another day.
7. Always Has Time For His Fans
The Undertaker returned to WWE once again this year, defeating Shane McMahon in a Hell in a Cell Match. The legend may have been away from WWE for a few weeks, but he still managed to find time for his fans.
The Deadman has always remained loyal to the fans, and he always has time to give back. Once again, he was spotted before an episode of Monday Night Raw, posing for photos and handing out autographs.
6. Tales From A Referee
WWE referees are often overlooked because there is an important story going on inside the ring, but Jimmy Korderas was a little different.
He was set to referee the Money in the Bank Ladder Match at WrestleMania 24 when Edge decided that he would ask both The Undertaker and management if Jimmy could referee the main event instead. All parties agreed, but the Undertaker had some kind words for the nervous referee before the match, and then thanked him for making it a pleasurable experience afterwards. Jimmy was a huge Undertaker fan, so this was an incredible experience for him.
5. Save The Animals Fund
The Undertaker and his second wife Sara created “The Zeus Compton Calaway Save the Animals Fund” at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, which helps to pay for life-saving treatment for large animals.
Taker and his former wife are both avid animal lovers, and this was their way of ensuring treatment for animals who are suffering when their owners cannot afford to pay such large insurance bills. Even though Sara and Taker separated, they have still continued to help the charity together.
4. Running The WWE Locker Room
There are many stories about The Undertaker running the WWE locker room, but there are very few of them where he was forced to resort to violent tactics.
Taker is a well respected superstar within WWE, as he should be after a historical lengthy run over the past three decades. There are many stories about Undertaker falling out with superstars like CM Punk because he didn’t like to receive criticism. But that usually happens when superstars like Punk refuse to receive it.
3. Voted Greatest Of All Time By Many Superstars
Taker is without doubt one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Many other superstars agree, mostly because of his reputation as someone who keeps his accolades to himself.
Jim Ross, Vince McMahon, Big Show and Mark Henry have all gone on record to state that he is the greatest of all time, but Taker is still humble about all that he has achieved in WWE. Anyone else would be big-headed about their incredible accomplishments, yet the Undertaker is still a grounded man – which is why he is so respected.
2. Undertaker & Kane
Off screen, both Kane and Taker have been best friends for their entire career, even though they’ve clawed at each other’s throats for the majority of their WWE tenure.
Kane has stated that The Undertaker has helped him so much throughout his career as a mentor and as a friend. It is no coincidence that the duo has managed to last in WWE for so long. Both men have enjoyed lengthy and successful careers, and still remain the best of friends to this day.
1. Family Man
The Undertaker has been married three times, most recently to former WWE Divas Champion Michelle McCool. The duo met when Taker was wrestling for WWE and following his amicable divorce from his former wife in 2007, the Undertaker and Michelle were officially announced as a couple.
They married in 2010 and welcomed their first child, Kaia Faith Calaway in 2012. Kaia was Taker’s fourth child after his son Vincent, who was born in 1993, and his two daughters Chasey and Gracie, who were born in 2002 and 2005. Taker is a loving father and many photos of him with his family can be found online.
