Serena Williams Takes Home $426,000 After Winning Rogers Cup

Serena Williams is still the most feared female tennis player in the world.

Just last week, Serena remained at the top by winning her third Rogers Cup title, beating Romanian Sorana Cirstea in a score of 6-2, 6-0. It also marked her eighth WTA title of the year and 54th of her career.

Williams then took home $426,000 for the win while Cirstea received $213,000.

The 31-year-old Michigan-born athlete has an estimated net worth of $100 million. She also ranked second on Forbes’ World’s Highest-Paid Female Athlete list with $20.5 million – $8.5 million in prize money and $12 million for endorsements.

The $12 million endorsement money came from her contracts with Nike, Kraft Foods, Gatorade, Wilson and OP1. It was reported that in 2004, she inked a $40 million deal with Nike.

Her archrival and 26-year-old Russian player Maria Sharapova topped the list with $29 million earnings – $6 million in prize money and $23 million in endorsements.

Apart from being dubbed the world’s No.1, the Olympic gold medalist also has the most career prize money among female athletes with $47 million, a bigger increase from her $38 million prize money last year.
