What better way to spend some of your multi-million dollar signing bonus than to buy an awesome ride. That is exactly what a lot of NFL stars do. In fact, some players even like to build up a collection of cars. Naturally, these players all have different tastes. Some like exotics, some prefer fancy SUVs, and some go for the classic muscle car. The one thing they all have in common is that they like their new toys to be the top of the line. Well, everyone except Andrew Luck who prefers to drive his Honda Accord or ride his bicycle.
A lot of the cars listed here very much suit their owner’s personality. Speed is a big thing among the skill position players. Quarterbacks like to have a flashy ride. The hard hitting defensemen tend to go with huge engines with serious horsepower.
No matter what the car is or even what your personal tastes are, you are going to be a bit jealous after seeing these. If nothing else, you will wish you had the car simply to sell it off for its massive price tag. Then you could get what you really want. So here is your chance to dream of the perks of being a star player in the NFL.
10. Calvin Johnson — Porsche Panamera Turbo
When you play the wide receiver position, you probably want a car that shows the same speed and acceleration that you do. Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson has a car that can go zero to sixty in 3.2 seconds and take 3 others along for the ride. Johnson drives a first generation Porsche Panamera Turbo. This car features a 4.8 liter engine and is capable of reaching a max speed of 190 miles per hour. The Panamera Turbo is the most powerful car the German auto maker has produced for sale to the general public. Johnson’s 2012 model has a resale value of $107,572.
9. Antrel Rolle — Maserati Gran Turismo
New York Giants safety Antrel Rolle has an awesome ride. Rolle drives a red 2009 Maserati Gran Turismo. Maserati is one of the major Italian luxury automakers, along with Lamborghini and Ferrari. Originally, Maserati was an off-shoot of Ferrari; however it has since become a member of the Alfa-Romeo auto group. This particular Maserati model has an engine that was designed by engineers from both Maserati and Ferrari. It is a standard 4.2 liter V8 engine capable of reaching a maximum speed of 177 miles per hour. In 2009, the car was listed at $117,500.
8. Russell Wilson — Mercedez Benz G-Class
There are not too many SUVs on the market that sell for over $100,000. Last year’s Super Bowl winning quarterback, Russell Wilson, has one though. Wilson must have gotten some extra cash for his 2013 season because he is now the proud owner of a Mercedez Benz G-Class. This is not just any G-Class though; it is the G63 AMG. A 2014 G63 AMG can be yours for $135,700. Not bad, right?
7. Tom Brady — Audi R8
Tom Brady is an Audi guy. He has even been featured in some of the German auto maker’s commercials. The Patriots QB owns a 2012 Audi R8. The Blue Book value on this particular year is about $148,200. Originally the R8 was made as a race car, but in 2007 it was taken off the track and put on the roads. Many automotive magazines praised the Audi R8 as being the first German supercar to be able to match up with Porsche’s 997.
6. Patrick Willis — Aston Martin DB9
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis has a couple of high-end automobiles. The gem of his collection is his 2013 Aston Martin DB9. The car retailed at $198,300 that year. Willis had the black car custom fitted with a number of different parts including tinted windows and satin black rims with red outlines. The car features the same V12 engine used in the Aston Martin’s Vanquish. It is capable of reach a top speed of 183 miles per hour. This car just screams power, which works well since Willis is one of the toughest linebackers in the league.
5. Jay Cutler — Audi R8 GT
Like Tom Brady, Jay Cutler also drives an Audi R8. Cutler’s R8 was bought with the money from his new contract extension. He drives the GT model from 2013. This supercar starts at around $200,000. Cutler also made a few customizations to his car. The most obvious change is the paint job, which is now white and orange. He probably needs to take his next paycheck and invest in some laser eye surgery. This might be the only time you will ever see Cutler’s name higher on a list than Brady’s.
4. Reggie Bush — Shelby Mustang GT500
The most expensive car ever sold was Eleanor, a 1967 Shelby GT 500 Fastback that was featured in the movie Gone in Sixty Seconds. Reggie Bush must have seen this movie, because he now owns one with the exact same paint job. Typically GT 500 Fastbacks sell for $150,000 to $175,000. This particular year and color scheme is a bit more coveted now because of the movie. Bush bought his Eleanor for $300,000.
3. Frank Gore — Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead
For a long time, Frank Gore was the only star player on the San Francisco 49ers roster. This meant he could demand a hefty price tag when it was time to talk about his contract. Gore is a fan of expensive luxury cars. The most recent addition to his collection is his 2010 Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead. This particular car is considered to be one of the greatest high-end luxury automobiles of all time. If you are looking to buy one of these, be prepared to spend in the ballpark of $350,000.
2. Reggie Bush — Lamborghini Aventador
This is the second time Reggie Bush has appeared on the list. Aside from his completely awesome Shelby, he also owns a Lamborghini Aventador. The 2011 Aventador was the newest flagship model on the Lamborghini line. Needless to say, it’s expensive. Buying one is going to set you back $441,600. Bush was forced to sell his Ferrari 430 in order to buy his new toy. This particular car has the ability to go zero to sixty in just 2.9 seconds.
1. Joe Haden — Lamborghini Aventador
Joe Haden just got a big contract from the Cleveland Browns. Haden also loves cars. He took the money from his new contract and splurged on a brand new 2014 Lamborghini Aventador. What makes Haden’s Lamborghini any better than Bush’s? Joe Haden not only paid almost half a million dollars for it, but he then went out and got it customized. Haden had his new car painted a mix of orange and brown. This way his Lamborghini could match his team’s colors.
