Playing in the National Basketball Association is a dream that nearly all youngsters have prayed for ever since they held a ball for the first time. Sadly, most children should start thinking of other careers as the NBA is filled with magnificent talent and only the best of the best of the best are welcome. Basketball is a sport that has been around for roughly 125 years and it has continued to get more popular by the day ever since Dr. James Naismith had blessed humankind with this great game.
Besides making millions of dollars to compete on the grand stage of the NBA, living the life as a professional basketball player may seem like it’s all sunshine and rainbows, but it often gets difficult dealing with all the paparazzi and cameras. Most NBA players are often caught up with tons of drama and excitement on and off the court, which in many cases will bring out mortifying moments and pictures that these players wish the world would forget. These instances where athletes were caught off guard allow the media to take the upper hand for our pleasure and entertainment. Here are the top 10 embarrassing photos that NBA players wish you would forget.
10. Dirk Nowitzki
Dirk Nowitzki has had a very successful career as he managed to win the NBA championship in 2011 against LeBron James and the Miami Heat. Although, it looks like Dirk had celebrated way too much in this picture. Nowitzki seems to be flipping off the camera while making an absurd face, which leads us to the fact that he was seriously under the influence when this picture was snapped. Dirk is widely known as one of the funnier faces of the NBA but this is one face he wishes he could take back.
9. Russell Westbrook
Russell Westbrook is known to be one of the top point guards in the NBA because of his ability to explode to the basket. Westbrook currently plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder in what will be his 8th season. Russell and the Thunder recently lost in the Western Conference Finals to the Golden State Warriors in game seven. Westbrook is frequently recognized for wearing nutty clothing but this outfit makes it look like a 3-year-old dressed him. Russell will be sure to work on some things in the offseason for next year, but one of the things he should work on is his fashion choices!
8. Chris Bosh
Chris Bosh currently plays for the Miami Heat. Miami was the third seed in the Eastern Conference this season as Chris had a solid regular season. Bosh was unfortunately hospitalized toward the end of the season because of blood clots found in one of his lungs. Sadly, Bosh was unavailable to play in the playoffs as the Heat lost to his former team, the Toronto Raptors, in the second round. Bosh still remains one of the laughing stocks of the NBA because of his sense of humor and the faces he makes on the court. Bosh used to be a Raptor but he is still shrieking like one.
7. Yao Ming
Yao Ming is a retired Chinese basketball player who is listed as 7’6”. Yao played his professional career with the Houston Rockets and for the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association. Unfortunately, Yao had to retire early from the NBA in 2011 because of many foot and ankle problems. We will always remember Yao for his size 18 shoes, his height, and this picture, which was quickly transformed into a meme that went viral all over the world.
6. Mike Dunleavy Jr.
Mike Dunleavy Jr. is a 6’9” NBA player who currently plays for the Chicago Bulls. Mike has been doing just fine as he played on Duke’s national championship team and scored a team-high 21 points in the title game. In November of 2005, the Golden State Warriors signed Dunleavy Jr. to a 5-year, $44 million contract extension. Mike’s father, Mike Dunleavy Sr. who also played in the NBA, should be very proud of his son, but he must have been very disturbed when he first saw this photo just like the rest of the world.
5. Steve Nash
Steve Nash was selected with the 15th overall pick in the 1996 NBA draft. Steve had never won a championship but he collected two MVP trophies in back to back years. Nash is now retired after playing 18 seasons in the NBA. In this picture Nash looks like he was having a little too much fun, as we are uncertain of what he is even doing. Steve will have much more free time in retirement so we hope we will not see any more shirtless pictures of him, no matter how good he was in his playing days.
4. LeBron James
LeBron James is often recognized as the best basketball player in the world. LeBron has always been extremely successful, as he has the highest net worth in the NBA and has won multiple MVPs and championships. Although many people say LeBron is “living the dream,” it is very hard for him to live in private. LeBron is almost always dealing with the paparazzi, including the time he was caught in this situation, “digging for gold.”
3. Gheorghe Muresan
Gheorghe Muresan is a retired Romanian basketball player who was drafted in 1993 in the second round. Muresan stands at 7’7” and is tied with Manute Bol as the tallest player in NBA history. We already know Gheorghe wasn’t a supermodel but he sure does not look any better with tissues clogged up his nose.
2. Michael Jordan
Michael Jordan is widely known as the best basketball player in the history of the world. This photo was taken in 2009, when Jordan was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Jordan gave a very emotional speech during which he shed a few tears. This image was then turned into a meme a few years later. Since the meme began, people have been using it to convey sadness or sorrow. Crying Jordan has been everywhere and everyone is in on the joke, except for the G.O.A.T. himself.
1. Dennis Rodman
Number one… Dennis Rodman. This isn’t the first time that Rodman has found himself under the spotlight. We have seen Dennis Rodman doing insane things in the past, from getting naked to protest fur to becoming best friends with the supreme leader of North Korea. In this photo, Rodman had announced that he was officially bisexual. Not only was this momentous news, but Dennis had even made the executive decision that he was going to marry himself. It was later disclosed that Rodman was presented with $10 million from the designer of the dress to model it. It may have been worth the cash, but it sure is one embarrassing picture that the world will never forget.
