Following last month’s lackluster Royal Rumble event, WWE is now officially on the Road to WrestleMania. That being said, the company annoyed a lot of fans with this year’s 30-man over the top rope event, so there is a hope that there will be some twists and turns along the way as WWE presents WrestleMania 33 in just seven weeks time.
Randy Orton won the 2017 Royal Rumble, for the second time a few weeks ago and this means that he is the only person in WWE who is currently guaranteed a place in the main event of WrestleMania.
Elimination Chamber awaits the SmackDown roster this weekend, while FastLane is on the horizon for the Raw roster as well. There may only be seven weeks but a lot can change in a short space of time, and here are some of the boldest predictions for what lies ahead in the world of WWE.
15. More Females To Return To The SmackDown Roster
Mickie James made her WWE return a few weeks ago, for the first time in seven years. Her current storyline pits her against many of the females currently on the roster as she states that she was part of the real women’s division that began the Divas Revolution.
It is thought that the WrestleMania match between these women will see more familiar faces return to the roster in the coming weeks. The likes of Melina and Victoria have already been rumored, while Beth Phoenix’s speculated Hall of Fame induction could mean that she is also added to any match that these women are set to have on the grandest stage of them all.
14. Gallows And Anderson Will Keep Hold Of Their Titles
It came as quite a big shock to many of the WWE Universe when Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson lifted the Tag Team Championships on the Royal Rumble Kickoff show a few weeks ago. The Club managed to defeat Sheamus and Cesaro to win the Tag Team titles for the first time in WWE history.
Gallows and Anderson have only been in the company for a year, they have been booked badly over that past year, and many of the WWE Universe speculate that they could be set to drop their titles at FastLane. Right now, they are the most dominant team on the Raw roster and it would make a lot of sense to allow them to take the titles into WrestleMania.
13. Goldberg Will Win The Universal Championship
It feels as though WWE have backed themselves into a corner here. Goldberg will face Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship at FastLane in just two weeks time, but if Owens doesn’t drop the Championship, how can he begin his feud with Chris Jericho?
Brock Lesnar is not booked for FastLane which means that he can’t even interfere in the match, so perhaps Chris Jericho will inadvertently cost his best friend the title, in a match that Jericho put Owens in, and this will then begin the feud. Goldberg does face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania in April though, which means that their match would be a Universal Championship match if this all works out as stated above. Could Lesnar become Champion again?
12. American Alpha Will Lose Their Titles At Elimination Chamber
American Alpha have been the best thing about the Tag Team Division on SmackDown for a long time. They came up to the main roster off the back of an incredible run as NXT Tag Team Champions as well, so it’s only fitting that they have finally won the titles on the main roster.
Jason Jordan and Chad Gable run the gauntlet at Elimination Chamber and go up against the likes of The Ascension, The Vaudevillians, The Usos, BreeZango and Heath Slater, and Rhyno. It will be an incredibly tough task for both men but it is hard to see them coming out on top, this seems like a cheap way for WWE to allow new Champions to be crowned ahead of WrestleMania.
11. Dean Ambrose Will Lose His Intercontinental Championship
Dean Ambrose defeated The Miz a few weeks ago for the Intercontinental Championship and it seems that the title has only been given to Ambrose as a way to take it off The Miz who can then move up to challenging for the WWE Championship.
Ambrose isn’t even defending the title this weekend at Elimination Chamber because he is instead taking part in the Chamber match for the WWE Championship. It shows how little WWE thinks of the title, and with rumors that Ambrose may not even be wrestling at WrestleMania this year, it seems that Ambrose could be dropping the title in the weeks leading up to the event so that WWE can put on the usual Intercontinental Championship ladder match.
10. The Cruiserweights Will Bow Down To Their New King After FastLane
Neville has recently become the Cruiserweight Champion and it seems that his new attitude has worked well for him. Neville is the self-proclaimed King of The Cruiserweights and so far he has proved that he has what it takes to move the Cruiserweight Division into the Altitude Era.
Neville will be scheduled to defend his title at FastLane in a few weeks time and this could be the match where the Cruiserweights find out that The Man That Gravity Forgot really is the best thing about 205. WWE should keep the title on Neville as long as possible and then allow the title to be defended at WrestleMania for the very first time.
9. John Cena And Nikki Bella Will Finally Have A Storyline Together
John Cena and Nikki Bella are considered to be the power couple of WWE right now, but they have never actually been put together in WWE. John and Nikki have been part of Total Divas together for the past few years and it is only recently that their relationship has been used as part of a WWE storyline.
Speculation suggests that Nikki could be set to miss time after WrestleMania because her neck injury wasn’t as healed as WWE doctors first thought it was. This means that WWE might allow Cena and Nikki to team together for the first time in a WrestleMania match just in case Nikki can’t return to WWE later in the year.
8. Chris Jericho And Kevin Owens Will Fight At WrestleMania
Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens are perhaps the best team currently in WWE when it comes to their personalities and the chemistry between them. There has been teasing of a split for the past few months but WWE has never fully equalized on it.
Going into FastLane in a few weeks time, Owens defends his Universal Champion in possibly the biggest match of his career as he takes on Goldberg. This was a match that Jericho forced him to be part of and could now cost him the title. WWE have made this rivalry very much about Chris Jericho and after he costs Owens his title, they could then go on to fight for Y2J’s Championship at WrestleMania instead.
7. Alexa Bliss Will Take Her Title Into WrestleMania
Alexa Bliss may only be the second SmackDown Women’s Champion, but she has changed the face of the Women’s Division over the past few months. Bringing Mickie James back into the fold was a masterstroke and now it allows Mickie to step into a feud with Becky Lynch while Alexa continues to face other women on the roster.
Alexa faces Naomi tomorrow night at Elimination Chamber in a match that will almost definitely see Bliss come out on top. If Mickie is leading the feud with the other SmackDown women into WrestleMania, then it will be interesting to see where Alexa actually fits in.
6. AJ Styles Will Go After Shane McMahon
Ever since John Cena returned to WWE late last year, AJ Styles has been overlooked by SmackDown management. Styles walked into The Royal Rumble with the WWE Championship and still wasn’t put in the right place on the poster, before he went on to lose the title.
It is very unlikely that AJ will win the WWE Championship at Elimination Chamber which means that he will be without a feud going into WrestleMania. It would make perfect sense for AJ to go after the person who not only made the match where he lost his title but the person that has overlooked him for the past few months, SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon.
5. Undertaker Will Return At FastLane
Undertaker returned to Monday Night Raw a few months ago and put himself into the Royal Rumble match. It was there that he was eliminated by Roman Reigns, in what many people have thought is a tease ahead of their match at WrestleMania.
Roman and The Undertaker have never collided one-on-one so it will be interesting to see if this match goes ahead. Reigns faces Braun Strowman at FastLane in three weeks time and it is thought that The Deadman could appear and cost Roman Reigns the win to set up a match in April. It would also allow Reigns to finally turn heel, something the WWE Universe have wanted for a while.
4. Seth Rollins Will Be Cleared In Time To Face Triple H
It was announced last week that Seth Rollins had suffered a torn MCL on his surgically repaired knee and that he could be out of action for up to eight weeks. This has seriously put his match at WrestleMania against Triple H in jeopardy, with many WWE fans wondering if Rollins will return in time.
It seems that the diagnosis is good news and that Rollins could make a full recovery in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania. This means that the match that has been building for the past two years will finally be able to take place and be one of the highlights of this year’s WrestleMania.
3. Bayley Could Win The Women’s Championship
Bayley and Charlotte have come through the ranks in WWE together. They both started off in NXT and have since been promoted to the main roster and once again continued the feud they began while down in development.
Charlotte currently has the Raw Women’s Championship and after she defeated Bayley at The Royal Rumble, she was pinned by The Huggable star the following night on Raw. This has led to a match being made between Bayley and Charlotte next week on Raw that could see Bayley walk out as Women’s Champion.
2. Luke Harper To Interfere In Elimination Chamber
Bray Wyatt walks into this weekend’s Elimination Chamber as the favorite to become the new WWE Champion. The only problem is that he turned one of his family members against him and that could come back to bite him tomorrow night.
Luke Harper was dismissed from The Wyatt Family after he lost his match to Randy Orton a few weeks ago, since then he has made it his mission to go after both Orton and Bray Wyatt, and he could well pop up inside the Elimination Chamber tomorrow night to cost Bray his best chance of becoming WWE Champion.
1. The Miz To Win The WWE Championship
It has been made obvious over the past few weeks that The Miz is only going in one direction in WWE. And that is up. Miz has been the stand out performer on the SmackDown roster over the past few months and deserves the chance to prove that he can do it at main event level.
Going into Elimination Chamber, Bray Wyatt may be the favorite but if Luke Harper does appear then it will leave the match wide open for The Miz to swoop in and capture the gold. Obviously, this would set up a match between Miz and Randy Orton at WrestleMania, but there are still seven weeks until the biggest event of the year and a lot of things could change.
