Serial killers are scary enough when you’re reading about them online, but they’re about to get a hell of a lot scarier by the time you’re done with this list. The 16 people that we have for you below are notorious for their crimes, but what is really going to be hard for you to forget are the horrifying photos below.
Whether it’s photos of their victim moments before death, of the murder scenes or tools like the tape the Toy Box Killer used, or even the killers themselves, these photos and stories will help you frame these killers in a whole new light.
Then, to really terrify you, we’ve also included the security camera photos of the Russian serial killer who is still on the loose.
We warn you, these aren’t going to be the most pleasant of photos or stories that we recap (including several child murderers), but you didn’t click a list about serial killers and their numerous victims to get the kid gloves now.
Our list spans decades as we tracked down the worst of the worst, and we have the photos to prove it.
16. Son Of Sam
When you are a citizen living in a city that is undergoing a manhunt for a serial killer, you can imagine that tensions are going to be high. Now imagine that manhunt is highly publicized because the killer is openly mocking the police by sending in letters taunting of his future killings.
You put them together and you get David Berkowitz, perhaps better known as Son of Sam. Berkowitz shot and killed 6 individuals, wounding 7 others using his .44 caliber Bulldog Revolver from July 29th-July 31st.
All of his targets, minus one, involved two murders as he would target couples that were enjoying a date in parked cars.
15. Israel Keyes
Israel Keyes allegedly killed upwards of 8 people, but we’ll never know for sure as he was not the most cooperative with police and committed suicide in prison while awaiting trial. As you seen in the above photo, Keyes was not afraid to use armed robbery to try and further along his finances.
The couple on the far right, Bill and Lorraine Currier, were one of the known victims of Keyes. When talking about it to police, evidence seemed to point to the fact that Keyes broke into their home, kidnapped them and drove them to an abandoned farmhouse where he promptly killed the husband and sexually assaulting the wife before also doing her in.
Keyes accomplished most of his murders by traveling to an entirely new town, picking up a stranger from random and then using various “murder kits” that he had located all over the country that included all the tools necessary to kill and dispose of the body. It was reported that the tools he used to kill the Currier’s were placed there 2 years prior.
14. Luis Garavito
If you want to think about jobs that must have been exhausting, imagine being on the hunt for the dead bodies that Luis Cubillos buried.
Cubillos admitted in 1999 that he had raped, tortured, and murdered 147 young boys; however, once police went searching for the bodies they found more remains, which lead them to believe he could have killed over 300 people.
All of his victims were poor children or children that lived on the street and tended to be between the ages of 8 and 16. Most of his killings were done in Colombia, where they prohibit imprisonment for longer than 60 years.
13. Donald Gaskins
Donald Gaskins had two stages of his “killing career” that according to him included over 100 people, including another inmate with him on Death Row.
The first stage involved picking up a variety of hitchhikers as he drove around the coastal highways. Gaskins would torture all of his victims with the intention of keeping them alive for as long as possible so he could torture them for longer.
Gaskins also went after people close to him and started with his niece Janice who we have a photo of above. Janice was 15 years old when Gaskins killed her and her friend who was aged 17. The only positive here is instead of torturing them, he beat them to death after attempting to sexually assault them.
Once Gaskins was eventually in custody he led police to the bodies of eight victims, which was enough to sentence him to death, but it was commuted to life in prison. Then he decided to kill inmate Rudolph Tyner and was given the death penalty, getting executed in 1991.
12. Dean Corll And Billy Ridinger
When you were growing up, you absolutely must have heard your parents say to you at one point make sure you don’t take candy from strangers. The reason may very well be because of Dean Corll and his two accomplices David Brooks and Elmer Wayne Henley Jr..
Corll and his family owned the local candy factory and would often give samples to local boys. It was rumored that Corll killed at least 28 victims, all males aged 13 to 20. Victims were also typically drugged or given an excess of alcohol prior to then being tied up where they would be tortured. In some more extreme cases, the torture lasted days and all victims were sexually assaulted.
The person on the right heading into court is Billy Ridinger and he was the only person that Corll actually allowed to leave. Granted, he still tied him up, tortured and sexually assaulted him, but Corll let him leave nevertheless. It was reported that he was convinced by Brooks to release Ridinger.
11. Richard Chase
There are a lot of messed up individuals on our list, but when you get the nickname “The Vampire of Sacramento”, you definitely stand out.
Chase earned the moniker due to the fact that he drank the blood of his victims, as well as cannibalizing their remains. Chase killed 6 people, often picking victims who left their doors unlocked as he took it as an invitation to come inside (no judgment if you’ve stopped reading momentarily to go lock your door!).
One of his most prominent murders was Teresa Wallin who was 3 months pregnant. The crime scene found a mutilated Wallin who had multiple organs removed, was sexually assaulted (allegedly after killing her), drank her blood and stuffed dog poop from the yard in her mouth.
10. Donald Neilson
Donald Neilson murdered 4 people from 1974-1975. Two of the people that he murdered were sub-postmasters, and another was the husband of a sub-postmistress. Neilson is also responsible for kidnapping the 17-year-old Lesley Whittle in an attempt to garner a ransom, but she died while in his custody.
Neilson’s murdering came to an end when he attempted to strongarm two policemen (including using a gun) into taking him to Rainworth, a village that was 6 miles away.
Yet on the drive, the officers took an opportunity to overpower Neilson and when the car was stopped, the officers also recruited the help of two local men who helped subdue Neilson; which explains why he is definitely looking not the best in his mug shot. The photo on the right show the large variety of items that were found on Neilson at the time of his arrest.
9. Douglas Clark
Douglas Clark may look like an old man in the above photo, but make no doubt that back in 1980 when he was doing his murdering he was a physically intimidating force. Clark allegedly committed 7 murders alongside his accomplice Carol M. Bundy.
Clark’s main goal in committing these murders was to be engaging in sexual intercourse with one of his victims by force, and then shooting her in the head in the middle of it so he would know what it feels like when someone dies.
The couple was caught after Carol Bundy became infatuated with a local singer named Jack Murray but after they got closer, she became worried that he would find out what was going on behind closed doors so she elected to murder him.
She wasn’t clean about it though and police were quickly after her and within a few days, she gave up Clark. The van that we have pictured above was the same one that Bundy beat Jack Murray to death in.
8. Israel Keyes CCTV
Above you read about Israel Keyes and he could arguably still going on his rampage today if there weren’t serious flaws with the murdering of his last victim, the 18-year-old Samantha Koenig.
Koenig was murdered on February 1st, 2012 shortly after being abducted from her place of employment. While Keyes is not visible in the above photo, it is a CCTV photo from the coffee shop only moments before Koenig was taken.
Keyes also went to the extreme of sewing her eyes open and including a copy of a recent newspaper to help indicate that she was still alive and took a photo, sending it to her family in order to get a $30,000 ransom.
7. Peter Sutcliffe
Peter Sutcliffe murdered 13 women starting in 1975 and despite being interviewed nine times by police during the investigation, he was able to get away with it until he was finally arrested on January 2nd, 1981.
Sutcliffe most often picked prostitutes (with few exceptions), and when talking about his crimes said “The women I killed were filth-bastard prostitutes who were littering the streets. I was just cleaning the place up a bit.”
His attacks were vicious, including stabbing one woman Emily Jackson 51 times. Sutcliffe was also known for his love of sneaking up on his victims and bludgeoning them with a hammer.
6. Jeff Rignall
This list may be full of photos of the most vicious serial killers, but the photo above is off Jeffery Rignall who was one of the very fortunate people to escape the clutches of John Wayne Gacy.
Rignall recapped the story in a book entitled 29 Below, including the fact that he awoke tied to a torture board after being chloroformed by Gacy. Once there, he was sexually assaulted by Gacy using a variety of toys. For whatever reason, Rignall was then dropped off at Liberty Park the next day. The photo above shows him shortly after leaving the Gacy house.
5. Harvey Glatman
Harvey Glatman earned the moniker of “The Lonely Hearts Killer” and from August 1st, 1957-July 13th, 1958, Glatman killed 3 women and was suspected of another.
Glatman is perhaps most famous for the fact that there are disturbing photos out there of all 3 of his victims. The photo on the right shows Glatman shortly after he was taken into custody. Glatman would claim he worked for Pulp Fiction magazines, meaning that the women may have been tied up willingly prior to his assault.
It was also reported that his decision to take photos of the dead bodies (which ended up being pretty damning evidence as you can imagine) was done because it helped him find closure.
4. Albert Fish
The great quality of the above photo is made all the more shocking by the fact that it was taken way back in 1935.
Albert Fish committed his murders from 1924-1932 and in the above photo is sitting in court. While it is not confirmed, it is rumored that this photo is taken as he is being read his verdict; which was death by the electric chair.
Albert Fish confessed to three murders but also boasted at one point that he had killed over 100 people. Fish went after young boys typically but also murdered Grace Budd who was 9 years old. He then proceeded to send a letter to her parents, stating in explicit detail how he murdered her.
Fish was also into cannibalism, so he made sure to include that it took 9 days for him to eat her entire body.
Another victim, Billy Gaffney was also eaten following his death. The following was described by Fish to his attorney,
“I made a stew out of his ears – nose – pieces of his face and belly. I put onions, carrots, turnips, celery, salt and pepper. It was good. I never ate any roast turkey that tasted half as good as his sweet fat little behind did. I ate every bit of the meat in about four days.”
3. William Richard Bradford
We are never going to be able to truly know the total number of victims by William Bradford, but the murders of his 15-year-old neighbors Tracy Campbell and Shari Miller were enough to land him in jail for the rest of his life.
Bradford would pretend to be a professional photographer in order to try and gain the confidence of these women, sadly, that also means he took photos of a ton of women right before they died.
The above is one of those photos and depicts Shari Miller only moments before he strangled her to death, cutting off her tattoos and leaving her naked in a Hollywood parking lot. When investigating the case, police found photos of 54 other women that were potential victims of Bradford.
While speaking during his trial, Bradford worked as his own lawyer and ended with the statement, “Think of how many you don’t even know about.”
2. David Parker Ray
David Parker Ray may be the sickest son of a b-tch on this entire list, and that is definitely saying something. It was reported that Ray killed upwards of 60 women, many of whom were prostitutes from the 1950s until he was finally arrested in 1999.
It was reported that Ray killed upwards of 60 women, many of whom were prostitutes from the 1950s until he was finally arrested in 1999.
Ray was arrested after one of his potential victims, Cynthia Vigil, escaped after keys were left on a table by Cindy Hendy who was Ray’s accomplice.
Ray would take all of his victims back to his “toy box” which included various sex toys, torture devices, syringes and a gynecology table that had a mirror placed above so the victims could see what was going on.
Ready to feel even more disgusted? Upon the woman regaining consciousness in his trailer, Ray would then play an audio recording telling the girls what was about to happen to them that included constant sexual abuse and even bestiality.
In the tape, Ray mentioned that if he killed everyone he did this too there would be bodies around the corner. Which is why he includes the fact that when he disposes of you on the side of the road that you’ll be heavily drugged.
Here is only a snippet from the tape,
“After we get completely through with you, you’re gonna be drugged up real heavy, with a combination of Sodium Pentothal and Phenobarbital. They are both hypnotic drugs that will make you extremely susceptible to hypnosis, autohypnosis and hypnotic suggestion. You’re gonna be kept drugged a couple of days, while I play with your mind. By the time I get through brainwashing you, you’re not gonna remember a f–kin’ thing about this little adventure.”
1. The Unknown Russian Granny Killer
Our list was chock full of the worst serial killers of all time, but now we have to come to our conclusion where we include a serial killer so awful he is just known as the Granny Killer.
This serial killer went on a murderous rampage from 2011 to 2012, allegedly killing up to three dozen women, all aged between 75 and 90 years old. The photos show who the police believe the perpetrator is, as he peeks into a doorway to see if it is locked before slipping away.
While his murders were years ago, the above photo was released in early February 2017 and was taken in October 2016, leading police to fear that a wave of murders may be coming shortly.
There is a £40,000 reward for any information that helps lead to his arrest.
