It can only be assumed that police officers see some of the weirdest stuff possible while answering emergency calls across the globe. Apparently, these emergency calls include paranormal ones since often malevolent forces can scare us and cause us to call for help. There are few UFO and poltergeist calls where the police officers were actually witnesses but in some cases, this rings true. From America to Britain there are occurrences that can only be described as paranormal and leaving a military officer, police officer, or off-duty uniformed individual as the sole witness.
Sometimes these stories are recanted or a witness refuses to go on the record which only discounts the truth of the tale. In other cases these silenced officers let the story go on their death beds, releasing new statements after they’ve passed. Whatever the case, these mysterious tales of ghosts and demons, flying saucers and aliens with blond hair do serve a valuable purpose.
They keep us questioning what could exist out there in those vast, starlit night skies and help us try to understand what kind of terror is inflicted on families going through a malevolent haunting. Read on for some of the most chilling tales of paranormal activity all over the world that were actually witnessed by police or other officers.
15. Ghost Haunts New Mexico Police Station
An officer on night duty at the Espanola police station in New Mexico back in the Fall of 2014 swears that he caught a ghost on camera. The incident took place in the sally port, a fortified area where people cannot just mosey about. Officer Karl Romero actually reported watching the shadowy figure walk through gates and walls before reporting it to his supervisors. Detectives confirmed after the occurrence that it was impossible to enter or exit the area without a gate being opened. Furthermore, every time the gate opens an alarm goes off, making it almost impossible that someone can both enter and exit without anybody in the police station knowing about it. As far as these officers know the police station is not built on any former burial sites and no prisoners have ever died there, making this ghost story somewhat of a mystery. Romero thinks maybe some unsolved murders in the nearby area might have something to do with the paranormal phenomenon.
14. Rendlesham Forest Incident
In this story several uniformed officers from the Air Force and other military personnel got up close and personal with an unidentified flying object. It was late December in 1980 when there were a series of sightings reporting unexplained lights near the Rendlesham Forest in Suffolk, England. At the time of these claimed UFO sightings the United States Air Force were using the RAF Woodbridge nearby the forest. The eerie events were described by eyewitnesses as a bright light looking as if it was shining from behind the forest. This event is beside Roswell as one of the most famous UFO sightings across the globe, it is often referred to as “Britain’s Roswell”. Despite many claiming that nothing otherworldly was going on, retired Colonel Charles Halt signed an affidavit that whatever happened that night was extraterrestrial. The forest now features a ‘UFO Trail’ through the forest to promote tourism and feed the rumors about paranormal events amongst the natural landscape.
13. Disembodied Voice That Saved A Baby
On March 10, 2015 a young Utah mother and her baby flipped off of the highway and landed upside down in the creek. When four police officers arrived at the scene they saw someone in the driver’s seat and every single one of them heard a voice say “Help me, we’re in here!” and they all jumped into the water to get her out. When they arrived at the car they found that the mother in the driver’s seat had been dead for hours, but her 18-month-old baby was still alive. The baby was suspended from her car seat in a space that was not submerged in water. The baby was on the brink of death when the firemen and police officers formed an assembly line to get her back to shore. CPR was done on site and the little one was declared stable later at the hospital. This voice could have been that of that young mother’s ghost calling the first responders just in time to save the life of her child.
12. Occult Rituals and Human Remains at Indiana’s Monroe House
Hidden away in the small town of Hartford City, Indiana is ‘The Demon House’ where there have been reports of immensely negative paranormal activity. This activity was so terrifying that paranormal investigators fled the house in fear and police were left wondering if they had a crime scene on their hands. The house was originally built sometime in the 1800’s and as soon as ground broke everyone involved with the structure experienced activity that was described as “demonic”. Though some people point to tenants practicing occult in the early ‘90s as the start of odd happenings, many think that the first sighting was back in the 1930’s when a Belgian family lived there. All of the strange occurrences happen in the basement, but ghostly voices and even apparitions have been seen throughout the entire house. There have also been many spontaneous fires, most of which started in the basement. Eventually human remains were found buried in the basement crawl space making it understandable why police got involved.
11. The Ghost Among the Rubble
Like most former NYPD and NYFD officers retired Lt. Frank Marra went down to the rubble left after the 9/11 attacks to help in any way. As he sifted through the decimated buildings, which by that point had been transferred to Fresh Kills landfill in Staten Island, he claims to have seen a ghostly figure. The woman was in a red cross uniform from WWII and holding a tray of sandwiches, Marra claims to have seen her multiple times as he searched through the rubble. Every time he saw her she was about 50 yards away, and when he approached her she would disappear. The officer suppressed the memory of this woman until he was interviewed years later alongside others who had searched alongside him. The remains of 1600 people were recovered from the rubble but 1000 still remain unfound. A psychic medium believes that the woman Marra saw was a “soul collector” meant to guide lost souls out of this world and to the next.
10. Roswell UFO Retrieval
It was July 2, 1947 when an unidentified flying object crashed in the desert surrounding the tiny town of Roswell, New Mexico. The United States Air Force released information that it was just one of their balloons and not an aircraft from outer space. But many still believe that the aircraft is a government conspiracy and that the elaborate cover-up was hiding alien life forms. The key witness in the Roswell incident was Major Jesse Marcel, the intelligence officer that went to recover the actual wreckage. He said that the metal in the wreck was paper thin but incredibly strong, it could not be cut nor could it be burnt. It wasn’t until 2007 that the PR officer Lieutenant Walter Haut for the military base at the time revealed more information. An affidavit that was only allowed to be released after his death claimed that the balloon story was truly a cover up. He stated that not only was an aircraft recovered, there were also alien bodies. This isn’t the first time that a former witness of the Roswell incident mentioned bodies, making it more likely that there are probably aliens in a secret government base somewhere.
9. Capitol Theater Haunting
Many people who have worked in this famous Salt Lake City, Utah theater mentioned strange happenings during their time. Salt Lake City Sheriff Dave Murphy thought that ghost stories were children’s fiction until he himself saw dark figures moving in and out of the walls of the Capitol Theater. This same officer talks about hearing doors slam and windows vibrating despite his former knowledge that nobody was in the building but him. After these experiences he actually saw a woman in 1900s period dress walk right past him, and he was officially a believer in ghosts. During these experiences the officer was a bit freaked out but he never felt menaced, he thinks it is most likely a teenager trying to get attention. The first note of ghost experiences in the theater happened in 1997 when an administrative and fiscal manager watched the elevator operate by itself. It was reported that a teenage usher in the theater was killed in a fire in 1947.
8. UFO’s in Trumbull County
Just after midnight late of December 14, 1994 911 responders in Trumbull County, Ohio received an odd series of phone calls. All of the calls reported low unidentified flying objects that were fast moving and slowly moving closer to the ground. The operator, Roy Anne Rudolph, thought these calls could be a balloon or helicopter but with the large flux of them she decided to inform the local dispatch. Sergeant Tony Meloro was the first on the scene and started following the strange light south on Samson Drive until his cruiser suddenly died after having no previous engine trouble. When he attempted to restart the vehicle it was completely engulfed with a bright light from directly above. He got out, looked up, and saw an immensely bright light coming from a completely round flying object. After thirty seconds the craft flew away without literally making any sound. By the end of this visit 14-15 officers had experiences with the UFO.
7. The Enfield House
Poltergeist activity at a council house in Brimsdown, Enfield, England between 1977 and 1979 involved two sisters aged 11 and 13. The Daily Mail and The Daily Mirror both drew quite a bit of attention to the sisters and the ‘Enfield Poltergeist’ which inspired many to believe the haunting to be nothing more than a hoax. Peggy Hodgson was a single mother raising two boys and two girls on her own when she had to call the police to her home because half of her children were seeing furniture fly all over the room. Claims of demonic voices, overturned chairs, thrown rocks and toys, and more were reported to police and the media during this tumultuous haunting. Sceptics have worked to unravel this case for many years but despite their intervention Hollywood has long replicated the story. Many made for TV movies feature the story of the Hodgson family and most recently blockbuster film The Conjuring 2 tells the family’s harrowing tale.
6. Nancy and Maurice Theriault
On a Fall night in 1992 Nancy Theriault stumbled onto her neighbor’s porch, shot by her husband. Her husband, Maurice Theriault, had also shot himself and was sitting dead in the basement. This would be a normal tragedy if Maurice Theriault wasn’t co-author of the famous occult book Satan’s Harvest published in 1985. In the book, Theriault claimed to had been previously possessed by the devil to which famed demonologists The Warrens claim to be 100% true. On their account Theriault’s eyes went into the back of his head before he began spitting blood slowly out of his mouth all over his shirt. It is unfortunate to think that this same demon might have possessed him one last time before he shot himself. Just before his suicide he had moved out of their home into a rental and his wife had not only filed for divorce, but also filed a restraining order against him due to erratic behavior.
5. Demon House in Gary, Indiana
The photo pictured was taken by a police officer when absolutely nobody was in the rental home that the previous occupants claimed to be haunted. Many believe to see a figure standing in the window of this so-called empty home. Local government reports over 800 pages of official documents reporting strange occurrences in the Gary, Indiana home. Many were called to the home including paranormal researchers and psychics who claimed many things, most of which revolved around evil spirits residing in the home. Priests, family caseworkers, and even a police captain believed the house to be filled with evil but a local doctor visited and claimed that the family was delusional. The mother of the family, Latoya Ammons, lived in the home with her three children and elderly mother at the time of the haunting. After they moved out there were no more instances of demonic intervention recorded in the home.
4. Poltergeist in Scotland
This story is of a Scottish family who was tortured in their own home by a poltergeist in the Summer of 2016. The family first called in the Catholic church but the job eventually involved the police force due to “Violent and unexplained circumstances”. The family actually called the police two days in a row and the officers expected a drug problem or perhaps some signs of mental health issues, but instead they found a new belief in the paranormal. The policemen witness clothes flying around the room, lights turning on and off all on their own, and the family Chihuahua sitting right on top of a hedge. Unfortunately for the family even though police believed them they were stumped on how to proceed since no crime had actually been committed by anyone of this world. Despite multiple blessings from the Catholic church the mother and son moved out of the home in hopes of escaping the presence.
3. Crop Circles and Figures in Britain
An off-duty sergeant who refused to be named contacted British UFO experts himself after seeing some alien life forms looking over freshly laid crop circles back in 2009. The aliens were dressed in white coveralls which led the law professional to believe that they were crime scene investigators but soon he realized that he had been mistaken. All of the figures were over 6-feet tall with blond hair and he could hear the distinct sound of static electricity. The sound seemed to run through the entire field and the crops seemed to be moving along with it. At first, these figures ignored him but when he tried entering the field they began to run faster than anyone he had ever seen. The rest of that day he had a pounding headache and was unable to understand his experience. The local police station refused to comment on the experience since the officer was off-duty at the time.
2. The Haunting of Don Decker
The 1983 case of Don Decker is an account made by witnesses that include police officers and several officers at the Monroe County Correctional Facility. The story goes that an evil force possessed the prisoner while he was on furlough to go to a family funeral. This furlough was granted while he was serving a 4 to 12-month sentence for receiving stolen property. Something that nobody in Decker’s life knew was that the man whose funeral he was attending had molested him since he was just 7-years-old, which may explain what happened. While staying with friends the night of the funeral Decker became overwhelmed with emotion and dipped into a trancelike state. Following this, water started dripping from the walls.
The landlord came to inspect the water and nobody understood where the water could be coming from, nor how it was leaking in that manner. When Decker was asked to leave the house and go to a local pizza shop, the water started leaking in the walls there as well.
The water dripping from walls continued well into his incarceration, including Decker gaining more control over this power while in jail. It was also reported that Decker would feel burned by religious objects (like crosses) and that he also levitated off the ground. He was cured by Reverend Blackburn who prayed with him in jail for hours. The story was covered on Unsolved Mysteries.
1. The Passetto Family Possession
Back in 1981 in Lee, Massachusetts, the Passetto family was living in hell, tormented by possession of a malevolent force. Lui and Dale Passetto and their children were a devoutly Catholic family that didn’t have paranormal experiences in the home until 2-years after they had moved in. It was March 19 when Mrs. Passetto first began receiving nightly visions from a white image that first took form as an approachable, seemingly friendly little boy. The creature eventually became a large, hunchback in black robes that would snarl and say nasty things. Mrs. Passetto went further to say that the creature called itself “The Minister of God”, she suffered claw marks all over her body and the family feared for their lives. The malevolent force stayed even after a priest blessed the house. Police tried to intervene but were scared off. Eventually, professional demonologists and married couple the Warrens intervened. This story is so famous that it has been used to adapt famous horror movies The Conjuring and The Amityville Horror.
