It’s inevitable, we all die at some point. It’s just one long road that we all have to walk down, but the end is the same for all of us. We are often shocked when we hear reports of a celebrity death, especially if it’s one that happens suddenly or to someone who is young. We try to make sense of it, why do these things happen? It’s especially hard if it happens to be a favorite celebrity, someone we have even grown old with. It doesn’t have to be a young celebrity for us to mourn the loss of them especially if you followed their careers for many years. Even though we don’t actually know these people, it feels like we do because we watch them in the movies and we see them in the media, falling in love, getting married and having children. It’s almost like we are a part of their lives. Almost.
Life can be short, and we never know when we are going to go, so it’s best to live the best versions of ourselves and treasure our memories. Those memories can often come in the form of pictures, and they can be all that we have left of those that pass. We are often surprised by what celebrities leave behind as their last photos. Call it a morbid fascination if you want but here are the last photos of our favorite celebrities before they died.
15. Carrie Fisher
Carrie Fisher had a long career in Hollywood; her most famous role was Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise. In December of 2016, Carrie went into cardiac arrest when she was traveling between London to Los Angeles. She was rushed to the hospital where she later died of a heart attack. It came as a shock to everyone and was deeply devastating to her mother Debbie Reynolds who died shortly afterward. “It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” the media announced. “She was loved by the world, and she will be missed profoundly,” said her daughter. “Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.” It was rumored that Carrie Fisher still suffered from a substance abuse issue. Whether that attributed to the cardiac arrest or not is still unknown.
14. George Michael
Christmas is typically a festive time when you never think anything could go wrong. You are nestled around the Christmas tree with friends and family drinking hot chocolate and enjoying the day before you feast on a big dinner. This past Christmas season we lost pop icon George Michael on Christmas Day. He died peacefully in his bed that night, and as of yet, there is no known cause. They are looking into whether his drug intake had anything to do with it, but those results won’t be released until March. Police have determined the death to be a non-suspicious one and the funeral is on hold until the tests have all been completed. “The cause of death is inconclusive, and further tests will now be carried out. The results of these tests are unlikely to be known for several weeks.” His $50 million fortune is supposed to be going to his sister who was often seen with him on his tours while growing up.
13. Robin Williams
Robin Williams was another shocking suicide that no one expected, especially since the actor seemed so happy all the time. To everyone’s surprise, Williams was on anti-depressants which came as a shock because the actor spent his life trying to make everyone laugh. How could someone like that be so depressed as to commit suicide? The actor hung himself in his home in 2014 at the age of 63. They found Parkinson’s drugs, antidepressants, and caffeine in his system. His wife discussed after his death that he often had bouts of paranoia, so it’s not surprising that he felt he had nothing to lose. The last picture that was taken of him was at a party the night before he took his life. It’s a sad picture because he looked to be in good spirits enjoying time with his friends.
12. John Lennon
John Lennon is one death that shocked the entire world. It was not only a sudden death but one that was tragic, something that should never have happened. On a night where Lennon was out with the love of his life, Yoko, the two decided to stop at their home to say goodnight to their son Sean before they headed out for the rest of the night. They normally used a secure entrance, but they were in a hurry, and so they stepped out onto the street. A stalker by the name of Mark Chapman was waiting for Lennon, and he shot the famous singer. The most messed up part of the scenario was that the same man had asked Lennon for an autograph earlier that day. One of the last pictures taken of Lennon was him walking by fans with his head down. If only he would have given that autograph.
11. Paul Walker
The world was floored when the news of Paul Walker’s death was announced. He was so young and seemed to be at the height of his career. What was even more shocking was the way in which he had died. It just seemed so hard to believe. He left behind a lot of fans never mind the multitude of friends and family that were devastated by his death. Paul Walker was out with Roger Rodas taking a joyride when Rodas lost control at the wheel, crashing the car. The car burst into flames, killing both of them. It was a sad day in Hollywood, and they had to find a stand-in to fill his role in Furious 7. In the end, his brother stood up to take his place.
10. Ryan Dunn
An eerie photo of the celebrity not long before he died in a car accident. Ryan Dunn passed away in the summer of 2011 when he got into a Porsche 911 GT3 with his production assistant, Zachary Hartwell. Both had been drinking beforehand and had a blood alcohol that tested twice above the legal limit. Police said that speeding also had a little to do with why they veered off the road. The car burst into flames much in the same way it did with Walker’s. Dunn was only 34 years old when he died which made his death all the more tragic. He certainly lived a very daring lifestyle being one of the cast members of the popular Jackass franchise. He wouldn’t be the first celebrity to die due to substance abuse.
9. Steve Jobs
It was a sad day indeed when Steve Jobs passed away; he was truly an iconic businessman who changed the world. It wasn’t a sudden death, though it was no less tragic, as the man who created Apple Inc. died of pancreatic cancer. He was 56 years old when he passed away. The picture shows Steve Jobs during his last days in a weakened state. Many celebrities have passed away from the disease, and it’s a shock every single time. He was a private man, not the type of celebrity to discuss his personal life, which is why many of his scandals stayed secret for longer than most. It wasn’t until much later that people found out that he had a love child that he denied for many years.
8. Alan Thicke
No one expected that Alan Thicke would die of a heart attack; he was a healthy man who seemed just fine on the day that he died. He was only 69 when he suffered from a “ruptured aorta” while playing hockey with his son Carter. He was doing something that he loved when he suffered the heart attack. “He was in great spirits. Alan had taken a few shifts and seemed to be fine. Then during a shift, he seemed to falter, and skated to the bench…He was sitting on the bench, hunched over, then started experiencing pain. He laid down and started moaning loudly, holding his head. We called 911, and the paramedics came within two to three minutes. He was conscious and had stopped moaning by the time they took him out and to the hospital.” He was rushed to the hospital, but he died later that afternoon which came as a shock to the family because he was a healthy man.
7. Kurt Cobain
Kurt Cobain’s death was ruled a suicide despite the many conspiracy theories that claimed he had been murdered. He was found dead by a shotgun blast in his home. The police reports showed that his death was the cause of “contact perforating shotgun wound to the head” which is why it was eventually ruled a suicide. The scene of his death must have been shocking as the shotgun was found on his chest. The last known pictures taken of the singer was for a photoshoot he did five months previously. 6. Whitney Houston
Whitney Houston was not only a highly talented singer she also suffered from drug addictions throughout her career. She had been known to do many drugs including cocaine, and often walked around looking quite thin. Many people worried that her death was only a matter of time. She had a huge career as a pop singer, but she ruined it with years of drugs. In 2012, she was found in a guest room bathtub in Beverly Hills, California. The coroner’s report came back that the drowning was the cause of cocaine in her system as well as heart disease. It came as a shock to everyone especially since she would be performing at the 2012 Grammy Awards. The last picture that was taken of her showed a woman that did not look well; she was often seen with Bobby Brown.
5. Chris McCandless
Every time I see this picture I get an eerie feeling; it’s just such a creepy picture especially when you find out that he starved to death on his own adventure. The movie Into the Wild was based on his life and his tragic death. In 1993, hunters found the young man’s body in the forest of Denali National Park inside a rusting bus. He had been using the bus as his shelter, and outside the door, they found a letter that stated, “I need your help. I am injured, near death, and too weak to hike out of here. I am all alone; this is no joke. In the name of God, please remain to save me. I am out collecting berries close by and shall return this evening. thank you.” Based off a diary they found in the bus, Chris had been dead for nineteen days.

Fans threw themselves on social media in mourning when they found out about his death. “It is with a very heavy heart that I confirm the passing of my dear friend and client Ron Glass. Ron passed late last night of respiratory failure. Ron was a private, gentle and caring man. He was an absolute delight to watch on screen. Words cannot adequately express my sorrow.” His death came as a shock, and he’s one actor that will certainly be missed a great deal.
3. Dale Earnhardt
Being a race car driver comes with its risks, and everyone knows that it can be sort of a dangerous lifestyle, one that can lead to death. When it comes to driving around those tracks at breakneck speed, those races can be scary as well as exciting. It must be heart pounding for family and friends to watch the races, especially when a crash occurs. In 2001, a final lap collision occurred on Daytona 500 that caused the death of legendary racer Dale Earnhardt. His car collided with Ken Schrader’s during the race and that contact caused Dale’s car to hit the retaining wall. Dale was in pretty rough shape when they pulled him out of the car, and he was pronounced dead at the Halifax Medical Center that evening. The last known picture of him was outside the track talking and laughing with his team.
2. Alexis Arquette
Alexis is most known as the transgender actress that starred in Adam Sandler’s comedy The Wedding Singer; her role was certainly memorable. The actress was born Robert Arquette in 1969 but always identified herself as a girl. She was determined to change her gender, and her brother David often spoke emotionally about her struggle. It’s certainly not an easy experience for anyone to go through and it was great that she had the support of her family. The actress died this past year on September 11th at the age of 47. The actress died of cardiac arrest though she was also fighting a battle with AIDS. She was surrounded by her family when she passed away and knew that she was loved a great deal while listening to David Bowie’s Starman. She was the sister of actors David and Patricia Arquette, a family that has certainly made their mark in Hollywood.
1. Princess Diana
Princess Diana’s death was a shock that rang throughout the world. No one could believe that the beloved princess could possibly be gone. Her death was a tragedy mainly because it was the cause of the paparazzi and their need for pictures. There were also a lot of people who believed her death was the result of a conspiracy that involved the Royal family trying to get her out of the way. That’s probably something that will never be proved. The last image that was found of the beloved princess was her in the backseat of a car driven by her bodyguard. The crashed was caused because she was being chased by the paparazzi. The photograph shows her looking out the back window at them. It’s a chilling photo, and the princess must have been so terrified in the last moments of her life.
