Alhaji Aliko Dangote
Nigerian businessman and Africa’s richest person, Aliko Dangote, has a net worth of $11.2 billion as of March 2011, according to Forbes’ list of billionaires. His fortune surged 557% since 2010, making him the world’s biggest gainer on Forbes’ list in percentage terms. He is the owner of the Dangote Group, which has operations in Nigeria and several other countries in Africa, including Benin, Cameroon, Ghana, South Africa and Zambia.
He is Africa’s biggest cement maker with plans under construction in Zambia, Tanzania, Congo and Ethiopa and is building cement terminals in Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast and Liberia, among other places. Dangote, who recently bought himself a $45 million Bombardier aircraft for his birthday, has been shuttling back and forth to London for a public offering there in 2011.
