10 Of The Strangest World Records Ever Broken

World Records are a special thing. There are all kinds of world records out there. Some people are obsessed with getting their names into a record book. They will do almost anything to get their 15 minutes of fame. That is why some records are so comical. Some records cause you to scratch your head and think, really? They can be that strange. And it’s not just the records that are strange. The people themselves who want to achieve records can be really weird as well. It takes a special kind of person to dedicate a great deal of their time to practicing to break a record. You can’t just wake up one morning and decide to swim across an ocean. No, you have to practice and practice. Often times, people who want to break records are competitive and focused. It doesn’t matter what kind of record it is, people need to dedicate their lives to breaking it.

Guinness World Records has specialized in breaking records for decades. At its inception in 1955,  the-then The Guinness Book of Records was the foremost publication on breaking records. Since then, the book has chronicled thousands of human achievements and extremes in the world. The book itself is the best-selling copyrighted book of all time. To show how much in demand the subject is, libraries have cited the Guinness book as one of its most stolen items. Guinness takes its records seriously and often times dictates the terms by which someone must break a record. Either way, there are some incredible records out there achieved by some real interesting people.

These are 10 Of The Strangest World Records Ever Broken.

What has your dog done for you lately? Certainly, dogs are nice pets who are meant to be companions and love you. Then there are some people who breed dogs for greater endeavors. Some people want to have show dogs and display their dogs like sadistic parents parade their children around at beauty competitions. Either way, dogs can be very cool. An Australian Labradoodle named, Ranmaru, is just a bit cooler than the rest. This dog got himself into the record books in 2014 by boasting the longest eyelashes ever recorded on a canine. At 6.69 inches, this dog’s eyelashes far surpassed the average size for dog eyelashes. These eyelashes were borderline absurd but did earn the ‘doodle a place in the record books.

If you see Kevin Shelley walking down the street, definitely don’t let him into your house to use the bathroom. Shelley’s world record is one of those head scratchers that makes you wonder what kind of training he actually had to do to achieve his 15 minutes of fame. Back in 2008, Shelley set out to break the record of the most toilet seats broken by one person’s head. That’s right, he had one minute to break toilet seats over his head. It took place in Cologne, Germany and Shelley shattered 46 different toilet seats over his head to break the record. Two questions here: Does Shelley have something against toilets and how the heck do you train for this kind of record? Wow.

8. Most Spoons On A Human Body

Some people have been told they have a magnetic personality. People are just drawn to them and want to be around them. Etibar Elchiyev of Tbilisi, Georgia is just one of those individuals. But instead of having a magnetic personality, he literally is magnetic. Elchiyev set out to break the record of the “Most spoons on a human body.” If it seems like an odd world record, that’s because it is. But back in December 2011, Elchiyev was able to keep 50 metal spoons magnetized to his body at once. The spoons just stuck to him and the record was his. Elchiyev must be a real pain in the ass to go through airport security with.

7. The Bee Whisperer

Bees can be pretty scary. There are people who are deathly allergic to a bee sting and avoid the small flying insects like the plague. Bees are also a vital part of Nature, providing pollination for millions upon millions of flowers. In addition to pollinating, bees also make honey! With all that said, it can be pretty terrifying if you see a big swarm of bees. People have died from too many bee stings. So when beekeeper She Ping set out to break a world record by covering his entire body with 331,000 bees on April 2012, Ping broke the previously held record of 59 pounds of bees by carrying 73 pounds on his body. He did this all to draw attention to his honey business.

6. Longest Cuban Cigar

Cuban cigars are world renown. They are known for being of the highest quality and have become a legend of sorts. With US/Cuban relations the way they are, importing Cuban cigars into the United States has been illegal for many, many years (although that seems to be changing now). So it is natural that the world’s longest cigar would find its place in the history books in Havana. On May 3, 2011, Jose Castelar Cairo, known to many as “Cueto,” rolled the longest cigar ever. At 268 feet, 4 inches (nearly as long as a football field), Cairo broke his own previous record of 148 feet and 9 inches. There is no doubt who rolls the blunt if you’re at a party with the legendary Cueto.

5. Tallest Mohawk Hairdo

There have been a few people who have stood out over the years with mohawks. One of the most famous is Mr. T from the television series the A-Team. The name Mohawk is historical, coming from the Native American people of the Mohawk nation. In fact, the Mohawks never shaved their heads. They ripped their hair out to create the style they wanted. Today’s mohawks differ greatly from that of a long time ago. The styles have changed over time and there are many variations to mohawks these days. Japanese fashion designer Kazuhiro Watanabe went the extra mile growing his Mohawk sky high. He currently holds the Guinness World Record for the “tallest mohawk.” His hairdo comes in at 3 feet, 8.6 inches tall. His hair literally spikes straight up into the sky. A good gust of wind could take Watanabe for a little ride.

4. Dispensing Milkshake From The Nose

Milkshakes are a delight and a treat. The blend of milk, ice cream and syrup can bring a smile to anyone’s face. The delicious dessert is also the focus of our next world record. When people laugh as they drink, sometimes, liquid fires out of their nose. This draws laughs from everyone around. Back in 1999, Gary Bashaw Jr. had the idea of breaking an interesting world record that converges both milkshakes and firing liquid out of one’s nasal cavity. Bashaw Jr. dispensed 1.82 oz of milk and chocolate powder out of his nose on the set of the Guinness World Records television show. The stunt happened live in Los Angeles, CA, and nabbed Bashaw Jr. his record. Now that’s one milkshake I’ll pass on.

3. No Fear Of Heights

There are many people who have a fear of getting up on a ladder. Some people can’t stand to look down out of a window inside a tall building. Certainly, a fear of heights is a common phobia held by many. Samat Hasan takes that fear and laughs in its face. The 24-year-old Chinese stuntman loves the high wire acts. Back in 2009, Hasan set out to boldly break a terrifying record. He walked on a tightrope in Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province. Hasan walked on a 2,300-foot rope with only 1.2 inches in diameter set at a precise 39 degree gradient. This was Hasan’s second attempt at the record after failing back in 2008 and he completed his task, getting the world record for aerial tightrope. Terrifying.

2. Longest Fingernails

Some records can be a little disturbing. Most people trim their fingernails after they get a little too long – we’re thinking good hygiene here. Have you ever wondered how long your fingernails could actually grow before they did some disturbingly disgusting things? Chris “The Dutchess” Walton is one of those people who you see and your mouth drops. Her fingernails have been growing for 18 years! That’s right! 18 freaking years! Walton set the Guinness World Record for longest fingernails back in 2011 with her left hand measuring 10 feet, 2 inches long and her right hand 9 feet, 7 inches long. Really, the one question we have is, why is her right hand so damn lazy?

1. The loudest Penis

This definitely goes down as one of the oddest (and best) things I’ve ever come across. This world record is all Nature’s doing. There is a freshwater insect called Micronecta Scholtzi. At only 2 mm in length, these tiny creatures like to make European fresh water lakes and ponds their homes. They also hold the record as having the loudest penis. That’s right, the loudest penis. At 99.2 decibels, the Scholtzi penis emits a sound that is described as the “equivalent to sitting in the front row listening to a loud orchestra playing.” That is an extraordinary feat for such a tiny insect and clearly is deserving of our strangest world record of all time. After that disturbing performance, the Scholtzi definitely deserve a standing O!
