It seems like celebrities are always changing their looks. From hair color, to clothing style, to how much or how little makeup they wore to an event, famous people have something new to display every time they walk out the door. It’s no wonder it takes a team of stylists, hair and makeup artists, nutritionists, and personal trainers to keep up with the demands of the rich and famous. When they want to change something about their appearance, nothing will stand in their way!

For many celebrities, changing their look goes beyond the closet and the makeup brush. It’s about a total transformation – body, face, and even the way they present themselves to the world. Sometimes it’s for a movie role, other times it’s for health reasons, or just to gain more confidence in general.

In 2015 we saw some of the most surprising celebrity transformations yet, and for many of these public figures it went beyond the norm. Some had dramatic weight loss, some had extreme plastic surgery, and some (well, one) became an entirely different gender. There were a lot of unexpected aesthetics that emerged on the red carpet and the silver screen last year, but these celebrities definitely take the cake when it comes to the most shocking body transformations in Hollywood.

Khloe Kardashian has always had a great body but in 2015 she really took her fitness commitment to another level. She says she really started to enjoy exercise this year and it’s helped her stay sane and have better days overall. She also doesn’t believe in crazy crash diets or constantly depriving yourself of the foods you love. She eats healthy most of the time but will let herself indulge in pizza or a slice of cake now and then. Her lifestyle definitely seems to be working. Khloe lost 40 pounds in total last year!

Farrah is one of the original stars of the MTV reality series Teen Mom. After her time on the show, Farrah seemed to develop a bit of an obsession with going under the knife. She revealed on the Bethenny talk show that she’s had breast implants, rhinoplasty (a fancy word for nose job), lip injections, and at one point she even had a chin implant but decided it was too drastic and had it removed. Even though she said she was done with cosmetic surgery, in 2015 Farrah had lip implant surgery, which went so horribly wrong that she ended up on the E! show Botched to have her outrageously swollen lips taken care of. Thankfully they were able to make the swelling go down, but Farrah’s post-surgery body and face are still very different from her natural look.

We know John Krasinski best as gangly, nerdy Jim Halpert on The Office. He’s not exactly the first thing you think of when you picture a rugged, muscular heartthrob. Well, it’s about time we changed our minds because John debuted a super sexy bod in 2015 and he was able to complete this transformation in just four months. He got ripped in order to play a Navy SEAL in the movie 13 Hours: Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, but he’s been able to have some fun with his new muscles off set too, like when he posed for the cover of Men’s Health in December. Surprisingly, John has revealed that his wife Emily Blunt doesn’t really like his new hard body and would prefer to have the old “doughy” guy back!

We’ve seen Lil Kim slowly change her appearance over the years, and while she’s denied getting plastic surgery, by 2015 it was no longer a question. She’s had so much work done she’s now virtually unrecognizable. From her pinched nose, to her higher cheekbones, to her much lighter skin color, she looks like a totally different person. Whether it was intentional or not, I can’t help but think that her choice in cosmetic surgery is eerily similar to Michael Jackson’s look in the 90’s. If her Instagram feed is any indication, she’s quite happy with her new look, but personally I think the original Kim was a lot sexier.

Whether he was starring in the 90’s sitcom Roseanne, or the cult classic The Big Lebowski, John Goodman has always been a big guy. But at the 2015 BFI London Film Festival, John showed up looking much slimmer than he ever has in the past. His weight has fluctuated a lot over the years and he’s even admitted that at one point he was up to 400 pounds. He says every time Roseanne was on hiatus he would lose 60 pounds but he would always gain it back. It looks like he finally found a routine that works for him. He not only looks great but he’s healthier, too. Hopefully he’s able to stick with it this time around.

On the flip side of things, Chris Hemsworth is usually quite beefed up on the regular, but for his role in The Heart of The Sea, he had to drop down to an almost skeletal state. He shared a photo from the set on his social media pages back in November where you can clearly see his ribs and sunken features. Quite the contrast from his enormous muscles for his role in Thor. He joked that his diet program was called “Lost at Sea.” Don’t think I’ll be trying that one anytime soon…

This one isn’t too surprising because clearly Caitlyn (formerly Bruce) Jenner had one of the major body transformations of 2015 when she transitioned from a man to a woman. Caitlyn unveiled her new look on the cover of Vanity Fair and nearly broke the internet. She became the first person to reach 1 million followers on Twitter within four hours – breaking President Obama’s previous record of 1 million followers in five hours. Caitlyn talked about her transformation with Diane Sawyer on an ABC special and has since debuted her own reality show on E! called I Am Cait, where she continues to discuss her experience as a transgender woman in the spotlight.

Kevin Smith never talked much when he played Silent Bob in the films he also wrote and directed, but if someone insults him in real life he’s sure to have the last word. That’s what happened in 2010 when he was kicked off a Southwest flight, allegedly for being overweight. He let the airline have it in a barrage of infuriated tweets and they eventually apologized and offered him a flight voucher to make up for it. But it looks like Kevin won’t have to worry about getting kicked off any more planes because last year he lost 85 pounds. Kevin looks great with his much slimmer figure but says he will forever refuse to give up his signature style of ankle-length “shorts.”

Even though he’s no stranger to completely changing his body for a film role, Matthew McConaughey might have had a bit of a different experience this time around. Contrary to his gaunt look for Dallas Buyers Club, in his new movie Gold, he’s more than just a little soft around the edges and bald too! In October 2015 he was seen on set sporting this hefty new look, his usual 6-pack abs nowhere to be found. Even though I’m pretty sure this look won’t last, I’ll bet the meals were a lot more delicious when preparing for this role than for any other role he’s had in the past.

Wendy Williams has been very open about her goal of losing weight and very open about the fact that no diet has ever really worked for her – until last year. It took about three years in total but in 2015 she finally revealed a dramatic 50 pound weight loss. Wendy credits her transformation to cutting out meat, dairy and refined sugars, and doing a lot of cardio. But above all else she says it’s about portion control. You don’t need all the extra sauces and sides with your meal. As she puts it you just have to “push back, fatso!”
