Restaurants are very interesting places. If you are a customer, you are arriving hoping for the best that particular food establishment has to offer. It doesn’t matter whether you are at a McDonald’s or sitting at a fine dining establishment – you just want the food to taste good and be “as advertised.” From a customer point of view, we demand good service. But there’s an entire other side of the restaurant business: the employee side.
Employees are generally underpaid in the food industry. Most of these employees are also temporary fixtures at their locations. They aren’t looking for a career as a cashier, waiter/waitress or a dishwasher, they just sort of found themselves there and it is a flexible job that makes their lives go round.
The restaurant business is a rough and competitive one. Everyone is looking to squeeze every last cent they can out of their business. So when employees are pushed harder and harder, and they receive the same amount of money, things can get a bit frustrating. Employees are asked to stretch themselves to unreasonable ends which applies a great deal of pressure on them. In addition to being driven by their bosses/upper management, employees face the wrath of being short-staffed and have impatient customers to deal with. When employees reach their breaking point, they get angry. And when they get angry, they tend to do some of the dumbest things imaginable.
A lot of these employees are young and lack better judgment. Unfortunately, these dumb things can adversely affect customers. It’s enough to make you never want to eat out again! These are 10 Employees Who Have Done Disgusting Things In Restaurants.
10. Kentucky Fried Chicken – Finger Lickin’ Good!
Facebook is good for a lot of things. You can mingle with your friends and post photos of yourself doing stupid things. One Kentucky Fried Chicken employee did just that. She is seen licking a large mound of mashed potatoes in the back of the restaurant. Then, she naturally posted that photo of herself violating company policies on Facebook. News station WJHL News Channel 11 in Johnsons City, Tennessee picked up the story and it exploded online. With 2,000 shares and over 700 comments, the story gained a lot of traction and Kentucky Fried Chicken acted quickly. Spokesman Rick Maynard said the food was never served to customers and the employees who snapped the picture and the licker were fired. This was Finger Lickin’ Good to a whole other level.
9. Taco Bell – Cool Ranch Tongue Lashing
Things can be pretty slow at the Taco Bell in Ridgecrest. So much so that during a food step-down (or the integration of new food products at a restaurant) the store was running a contest. The employees were trying to capture each of their first bites of the new products. One Taco Bell employee in particular thought it would be better to lick an entire stack of new Doritos Cool Ranch Taco shells. The picture was captured and then put on the Internet. It went viral and caused all kinds of problems.
The licker and photographer were once again fired in this incident ,and according to Taco Bell the photo “violated the rules and spirit of the contest, and the employees never submitted it.” Yeah, we don’t care if he ever submitted the pictures, we care if we were served sloppy seconds.
8. Dunkin Donuts – Extra Sugar
Fast food chain employees do not make a lot of money. The restaurant industry is not where you go to make the big bucks. This Rockaway, New Jersey Dunkin Donuts was the site for a police sting. The operation was dubbed “extra sugar” and 29-year-old Melissa Redmond was an employee of Dunkin Donuts. While working the drive-thru during her overnight shifts, Melissa had an interesting way of delivering good customer service. She not only offered customers a nice smile and some extra sugar with their coffee, she offered sex as well. That’s right, Melissa was whoring it out of the drive-thru window. After being busted for the sting, Melissa replied “I am not some whore.” Melissa also explained that these customers were becoming her friends because she saw them every day. So, offering sex for a few bucks wasn’t a big deal. Yeah, Melissa, it is. It’s called, prostitution. Charging people $100 for a glazed donut, a small black coffee and a blow job doesn’t make it legal.
7. McDonald’s – I Like My Coffee Light With Extra Phlegm
The McDonald’s in Simpsonville, South Carolina seemed like a regular run-of-the-mill golden arches establishment. Employee Marvin Washington Jr. got tired with customers wanting their coffee just right. When they asked for light and sweet, he gave them light and sweet. But when they brought the cup back up and demanded more sugar, Marvin Johnson got a tad bit irritated. To correct the lack of sugar, Johnson mistook his own mouth for the sugar dispenser and began spitting in customer’s drinks. After repeating the action numerous times, someone finally paid attention to the store surveillance footage and caught Johnson in the act. He was charged by authorities with felony malicious tampering.
6. Chili’s – I Said Tip Me!
Being a waitress can be a thankless job. Waiting on customers day after day can get rough. And when you work really hard, getting stiffed on a tip is enough to drive anyone just a bit mad. When a waitress at a Chili’s in California had large party who ordered $138 worth of food, she was expecting at least the standard 15-20%. Instead, she got just $5. That’s right, she pretty much got stiffed by the awful cheap scum. This did not sit well with the waitress who lost her mind and proceeded to post a video on Facebook threatening to spit on customers’ faces and in their food. No one knows for certain exactly how much spit ended up in customers’ entrees from the wrath of this angry waitress. No proof or charges were filed.
5. Burger King – Dishwasher Needed
Back in 2008, Burger King suffered a great deal of embarrassment at the hands of one of its employees. In Xenia, Ohio, an employee took his job of cleaning very seriously. A crass employee liked to refer to himself as “Mr. Unstable.” He thought it would be funny to take a bath in the giant sink. While completely naked, “Mr. Unstable” was true to his name. Several employees, including a manager, were amused watching in the background as the video took place. The video was naturally posted to his MySpace account and health department officials were none too amused. Fox News reported on the rogue bather and a whole slew of employees, including the manager, were canned over the incident.
4. Burger King – Tastes Like Feet
Back to Ohio (this time Cleveland) where employees at Burger King apparently have no common sense whatsoever. The employees thought it would be hilarious to shred lettuce with their feet. What was even worse, the idiots had coworkers take photos of themselves, everyone having a good old time. After they finished shredding the produce, the employees then proudly stood upon their fresh feet infused produce and photos were snapped. The happy employees were photographed standing in plastic bins, their feet compressing the produce they just shredded. Their smiling faces went viral and their jobs went bye-bye. The photos made big news and a lot of pink slips came their way. I know vegetables don’t have a lot of taste, but adding feet to them doesn’t qualify as a spice.
3. Subway – Making It Fresh
On to Subway, the land of freshly made sandwiches with highly processed meats. Subway can get crazy during lunch rushes but during down times, it can be pretty slow. Two Subway employees got into a heap of trouble when Instagram photos (they took of themselves by the way), surfaced showing these two “sandwich artists” defiling food. Yes, nothing says fun like sticking your genitals on top of a freshly baked 12-inch Italian sub. Not only did these two geniuses take photos of themselves placing their genitals on and around food products, they were freezing their urine at the restaurant. You heard me right, they were freezing their own pee inside the restaurant which begs the question, what the hell were they planning to do with that? Very disturbing indeed.
2. Taco Bell – “I’ll Piss On Anything”
Taco Bell arrives for the second time on this list. The scene of the crime was Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Cameron Jankowski was one of those sarcastic employees that liked to get attention for the wrong reasons. The employee allegedly pissed on an order of nachos and claimed he would “piss on anything.” The urine, however, appeared to be a simulated stunt using Mountain Dew. The Daily Show with John Stewart even did a skit on it. Whether it was pee or Mountain Dew, the obvious intention was not nearly as amusing to Taco Bell as it was to Jankowski. Thus, he was terminated over his online bragging and the mere suggestion he may actually urinate on people’s food.
1. Burger King – Secret Sauce
Burger King finally beat McDonald’s at something! That’s right, Burger King comes in with their third disgusting employee story on this top 10 list! Now, to the good stuff. In 2009, it was revealed that three Burger King teenage employees from the Scottsville, New York establishment, were adding a secret sauce to the top of hamburgers. It was found that for at least 8 months, these three employees were adding bodily fluids such as urine and spit, as well as cleaning solvents such as oven cleaner and another cleaner with bleach to the tops of hamburgers. That’s right…for at least 8 months! The three teens, the youngest being a 17-year old girl, were all taken into custody and charged with food tampering. This one is enough to make you never want to eat fast food ever again. Wow.
