The glitz and glamour of being on screen and red carpets can make celebrities seem like they’re larger than life. In their gorgeous gowns and sky high stilettos, many female celebrities could be mistaken for models. Additionally, it can be hard to tell what someone’s true height is when you only see them on screen.
However, many female celebrities in particular are far smaller than they seem. The ladies on this list demonstrate that good things do come in small packages.
20. Rachel Bilson – 5’1
Television sweetheart Rachel Bilson was beloved as Summer Roberts on The O.C. and, more recently, as city to country transplant Dr. Zoe Hart on Hart of Dixie.
19. Jessica Simpson – 5’3
All-american sweetheart Jessica Simpson has had a successful pop career for years, offering a more wholesome alternative to the risqué pop princesses that were her contemporaries. She garnered even more attention when starring on Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, where her dumb blonde persona attracted some criticism, but also elevated her to A-List star status. Bitten with the television bug, Simpson used her star status to create the VH1 documentary series The Price of Beauty, and was a mentor on the reality show Fashion Star alongside Nicole Richie and Elle Macpherson. While Simpson has had a lot of public criticism about her fluctuating weight, you only need to see her as character Daisy Duke in The Dukes of Hazzard to know why she definitely deserves a spot on this list.
18. Anna Kendrick – 5’0
This pint sized actress has a huge set of pipes – she’s made a name for herself courtesy of her incredible voice both on broadway and in the hit movie Pitch Perfect. She also starred alongside George Clooney in Up in the Air and by the side of Jake Johnson in Drinking Buddies.
17. Vanessa Hudgens – 5’2
This teeny Spring Breaker came into the spotlight in the High School Musical series, playing Gabriella Montez. Being perceived merely as a Disney star wasn’t enough for Hudgens, and she’s since been branching out into more serious roles, such as troubled teen Agnes “Apple” Bailey in Gimme Shelter.
16. Hilary Duff – 5’1
Duff was a teen idol thanks to her role as the title character in Disney’s Lizzie McGuire. She’s had roles in several films and success in the music world, as well as a highly public relationship with former NHL centre Mike Comrie, with whom she has a child. Actress, singer, mother – this beauty is a triple threat.
15. Kim Kardashian – 5’2
14. Sarah Hyland – 5’2
Hyland is most famous for her role as oldest daughter Haley Dunphy on Modern Family. With film roles in Struck by Lightning and Vampire Academy, Hyland has been branching out into the movie world, where she got her start.
13. Natalie Portman – 5’3
Smart girl in real life and scientist Jane Foster in the Thor movies, Portman packs a lot of acting skill into her tiny frame. Queen Amidala in the Star Wars series, ballet dancer on the edge in Black Swan, and the quirky Sam in cult classic Garden State, Portman’s career has been thriving since she was young and shows no signs of stopping.
12. Isla Fisher – 5’2
11. Salma Hayek – 5’2
Hayek, a Mexican-American actress, director, and producer, has been a staple in the entertainment industry for years. She starred as the title character in Frida and as Adam Sandler’s wife in Grown Ups and Grown Ups 2. Additionally, she has guest starred on several television shows from 30 Rock to Ugly Betty (which she was the executive producer of, adapting the English show from a Spanish telenovela). While it’s likely hard to find sample size gowns for short and curvy figures, Hayek always stuns on the red carpet.
10. Lucy Liu – 5’3
Lucy Liu must be a master at elongating her tiny frame, because people generally tend to peg her as 5’7 or taller, when in reality she’s a tiny 5’3. She rose in prominence once cast as a series regular, the ruthless Ling Woo, on Ally McBeal. Liu was also one of the three angels in the most recent Charlie’s Angels films, and currently stars alongside Jonny Lee Miller in the Sherlock Holmes inspired Elementary as Joan Watson.
9. Christina Aguilera – 5’1
It’s utterly baffling that such a huge voice can come out of such a tiny person, but it’s the truth. It’s hard to tell how tiny Aguilera is when she’s sitting down on The Voice in her former position as coach, or rocking the stage solo, but as soon as she’s standing next to someone it’s obvious (particularly if it’s giant 6’5 coach and country star Blake Shelton). This pint size Princess of Pop has topped the charts for years and has one of the biggest voices in the business.
8. Kristen Bell – 5’1
Kristen Bell has had success on both the small screen and big screen. She played Elle Bishop on the sci-fi hit Heroes, as well as the title character in the fan favorite Veronica Mars. Her girl next door looks have garnered her leading lady status, and she’s starred in films such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, You Again, When in Rome, and Hit and Run (with hubby Dax Shephard, who towers over Bell at 6’2). She also voiced Princess Anna in the Disney mega hit Frozen.
7. Kristin Chenoweth – 4’10
This dynamo is truly teeny tiny, clocking in well under five feet in height. However, it seems at least 4 feet of her 4’10 height must be vocal chords: this classically trained vocal superstar has a set of pipes that seem meant for a woman triple her size. Chenoweth has starred on Broadway as Glinda the Good Witch in the hit musical Wicked, where her singing truly shone. However, she’s also graced the small screen on Pushing Daisies, Glee, and GCB.
6. Scarlett Johansson – 5’3
Johansson has graced nearly every hottest/sexiest female star list since she became one of the go-to names in film. She started acting when she was very young in films such as North, Manny & Lo, and The Horse Whisperer. Not content to remain a child star, Johansson transitioned into more serious, adult roles and has since racked up several illustrious credits to her name, from the hit Lost in Translation to The Girl with The Pearl Earring and Vicky Cristina Barcelona. More recently, she has played Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) in The Avengers, the lust-worthy jersey girl Barbara in Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Don Jon, and the voice of Samantha in Spike Jonze’s Her.
5. Hayden Panettiere – 5’0

4. Shakira – 5’2
Shakira has been topping the charts for both her Spanish and English language music for years, from her 1991 Spanish debut Magia to Laundry Service, her 2001 English language album that brought her to international attention. A modern superstar, her YouTube presence surpassed over 1 billion views – the only artist to do this besides Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga – and her hit “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” was the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. She is a dynamic live performer known for her belly dancing skills and distinctive vocals. She has also been a coach on The Voice for two seasons thus far, serving as the only female coach in the seasons when Christina Aguilera took a break. With the recently released “Can’t Remember To Forget You,” featuring Rihanna, Shakira’s career shows no signs of slowing down.
3. Mila Kunis – 5’4
Mila Kunis has joked about her height, stating that she’s won countless bets because people tend to think she’s shorter than she actually is. She’s been in the spotlight since she was just fifteen years old, when she got her start playing lovable diva Jackie Burkhart on That 70s Show. She also voices Meg Griffin on Family Guy. Kunis eventually got a series of starring roles in films that catapulted her to stardom, including receptionist Rachel Jansen in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, ballerina Lily in Black Swan, and guys’ girl Jamie in Friends With Benefits, to name a few. Kunis is engaged to former That 70s Show co-star Ashton Kutcher.
2. Cheryl Cole – 5’3
One of Britain’s biggest superstars, Cheryl Cole gained fame as part of hit girl group Girls Aloud. The group had countless hit singles in the UK and millions of albums sold. Cole stepped out as the star of the group when she got a gig as judge on The X Factor. While she might not be as well known outside of the UK, she’s one of Britain’s biggest bombshells.
