Same-sex kissing happens to be all the rage these days! And who would have thought back in the day that 2016 would bring an abundance of gayness on our screens, and it wouldn’t just be a ploy for network ratings or a boost in box office sales. A decade ago we probably wouldn’t be sitting here compiling a list of the best lesbian kisses on TV/Movies, we probably could count the number of kisses between women in mainstream media on one hand, maybe two. And now?
Although it’s still not completely even (men get to kiss everyone), girl on girl kisses have fought their way to the forefront of our lives. And thank goodness for that! From cop dramas to shows set in the 1700’s, it’s never too late for the entertainment world to get on board, rebel against society’s “norm,” and show a real depiction of people loving people. This time around those people happen to be gorgeous, sensual, voracious lady lovers.
So take a seat, jot down a few notes, because this list is going to make you blush in all the right ways and leave you reaching for a partner to smooch all up on.
10. Jessica Parker Kennedy and Hannah New – “Black Sails” (TV)
These two ladies play Max and Eleanor on the Starz series Black Sails, and although it’s a predominately male-driven show, those pirates ain’t got nothing on Madame Guthrie and her wh$#@. Relax, she plays a prostitute, I’m not trying to be disrespectful or anything. Lets not get it twisted, Max is so much more than a “working” woman, and this 17th century gal is more than meets the eye. With the combination of brains and beauty, these two can probably run this island solely based on their epic kisses!
9. Eliza Taylor and Alycia Debnam-Carey – “The 100” (TV)
Clarke and Lexa’s kiss on The 100 was one of those moments that you just didn’t see coming. Sure, you could feel the chemistry and sexual tension build but as anyone watching TV would assume it’s merely subtext. Surprise, not subtext! These badass women are fighting wars and winning hearts… eachothers that is. This might not be the raunchiest kiss on the list, but it sure is the most tender. You can just tell these two have deep, unexplored feelings for each other and hopefully in season 3 we’ll see a whole lot more of this!
8. Katie Cassidy and Tracy Spiridakos – “Kill for Me” (Movie)
It takes a special someone to pull off some hot and heavy lady loving in what I’m calling this movie to be a psychological thriller — you’re worried about being murdered and getting it on after you’ve been attacked by your ex boyfriend just doesn’t seem to get the same arousal it used to. Ha. But, for some reason these two manage to terrify and thrill you all at the same time. Look out, things are heating up in this movie.
7. Nicole da Silva and Leeanna Walsman – “Wentworth” (TV)
Orange is the New Black has got nothing on the ladies of Wentworth! This gritty prison series has all the things you could possibly want in a show about Australian women in prison, and it helps that the first season gave us this lustful kiss between Governor Erica Davidson and inmate Franky Doyle. Yep, an inmate totally macking on the woman in charge – how much hotter can you get?
6. Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara – “Carol” (Movie)
This film is subtle, breathtakingly beautiful and follows the story of two women who fall in love during a time when they’re forced to marry a man. Although it’s slower than I usually like my blossoming romances, Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara (despite her bangs in this film) have this indescribable chemistry that just radiates through the screen into your soul. When you watch it, you will feel that kiss!
5. Katie Stevens and Rita Volk – “Faking It” (TV)
For two girls who are faking being lesbians on this hit MTV series, they sure do kiss a lot! Karma and Amy, best friends-turned-fake-lovers have the best kisses on TV, hands down. I will fight anyone who says otherwise. Considering it’s a show on MTV and the premise is a little problematic (politics and all), the show brings heart to an overall titillating dynamic. Oh, and young or old, gay or straight, who hasn’t fallen in love with their BFF one time or another?
4. Ruth Vega Fernandez and Liv Mjönes – “Kiss Me” (Movie)
This is a foreign film, so yes there’s going to be subtitles when you watch it, but trust me it’s well worth the extra effort. Not only is it an amazing story it really shows the struggle between these two women to ultimately be together. This movie might be out of this country, but these interactions between the leading ladies is without a doubt out of this world. You can sense the tension and passion with every scene these two share together. One of the best lesbian love scenes I’ve seen to date. I need a cigarette just thinking about it!
3. Yara Martinez and Bridget Regan – “Jane the Virgin” (TV)
Just because Jane is a virgin doesn’t mean this hot doctor and her drug lord stepmom (yeah, we said stepmom) have to be too. These two are one of those forbidden loves that you just know you’re not supposed to root for. Luisa and Rose have developed quite the fan following for their steamy kissing (and sex) scenes and despite the fact that Rose (aka Sin Rostro) is on the loose for being… ya know, a drug lord, raise your hand if you have hope these two can work it out and resume their sweet lady kisses?
2. Tatiana Maslany and Evelyne Brochu – “Orphan Black” (TV)
These two scientists on the hit BBC America show Orphan Black sure do have a lot of chemistry. But let’s be honest right now, Tatiana Maslany could kiss a shoe and I think the whole world would still gush over her. She just radiates this presence that is so beautiful, and downright hot. Of course it helps that her partner in lip locking crime happens to be another gorgeous gal who knows how to pout her lips and get what she wants.
1. Charlotte Sullivan and Aliyah O’Brien – “Rookie Blue” (TV)
Making out with your ex-girlfriend while a perpetrator is sitting in the next room unaware of the happenings behind that two-way mirror? Can you say hot! No really. That’s so damn sexy. That element of not knowing if someone in the precinct is going to walk in at any moment… oh man. It’s super reckless, and definitely at the top of my list of things to totally do. This strong-willed cop and level-headed medical examiner may have some trouble in their relationship, but the one thing they don’t have a problem with is heating things up… in the break room.
