Men around the world owe a huge “thank you” to Roy Raymond and his wife Gaye for the multitude of models who have graced our television and computer screen for decades. Raymond invested in $80,000 in 1977 in a store where men could buy lingerie for their women without the embarrassment.
Following his success in introducing the chain to malls across the United States in the 80s and 90s, Victoria’s Secret became the Victoria’s Secret we know today in 1995 – the year they began what has become an annual fashion show. Broadcast on national television, the brand featured some of the most beautiful women on the planet.
You had the elegance and beauty of women like Helene Christensen and Stephanie Seymour to the recent household names like Alessandra Ambrosio and Candice Swanepoel. Modeling for Victoria’s Secret not only put their name – or face – on the map, but it eventually led to their supermodel status after they were named Angels.
In the Spring of 2015, Victoria’s Secret announced their latest lineup of Angels. The following women, which hail from countries as far as Russia to as close as the United States, are primed for a breakout in 2016 and supermodel status. Here are 10 Hot Victoria’s Secret Models Ready To Break Out In 2016.
10. Elsa Hosk – The Swede Sensation
Born in Sweden, Elsa Hosk grew up quite the athletic child which led to a brief professional basketball career in Europe. It was brief because she wanted to pursue her modeling career in the United States. The Swedish beauty began working for Victoria’s Secret in 2011, participating in the brand’s annual fashion show in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014. Earlier this year, she was named as one of the newest Angels. With her stunning appearance – she was ranked as the 15th sexiest models by models.com – it’s shame she wasn’t named sooner.
Already with notable appearances modeling for brands like Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, H&M, and Guess, look for her to continue her upward trend to supermodel status in 2016.
9. Lais Ribeiro – Beach Bod Beauty
This list wouldn’t be complete without including a sexy Brazilian. Lais Riberio, born Oct. 5, 1990, is just what Victoria’s Secret needs. She’s got the kind of flare that will light up the runway. She’s only been in the industry since 2009, yet has appeared for major brands like Chanel, Versace, Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs.
She’s already a highly-sought model; she booked the most gigs during the Sao Paolo Fashion Week with a staggering 27 shows. With Victoria’s Secret Angel added to her biography, Lais Ribeiro’s career is on the upswing and is in line for an even better 2016.
8. Martha Hunt – The Girl Next Door
Hunt is an American who was born to model. The latest Victoria’s Secret Angel was discovered by a photographer in North Carolina before being introduced to agencies in the Big Apple. In 2007, she appeared for her first runway show during Paris Fashion Week. Two years later, the relatively new model appeared on the cover of Vogue China and Harper’s Bazaar. Not too shabby for the American.
Aside from being among the 10 models named Angels recently, Hunt has something else going for her right now – she’s one of Taylor Swift’s better friends. In fact, Hunt appeared in Swift’s video “Blood Blood,” which also featured several female celebrities who are part of Taylor’s all-girl squad.
7. Romee Strijd – Dutch Deluxe
Romee Strijd is one of the lesser known models on this list. But that doesn’t mean she isn’t primed for a breakout in 2016. The Dutch model already has an extensive portfolio and she’s only 20 years old. Before becoming a Victoria’s Secret Angel, Strijd walked for Burberry, Calvin Klein, Marchesa, Vera Wang, and Louis Vuitton among many others. That doesn’t include her covers on magazines like Elle, LOVE and Vogue UK. Despite the extensive modeling experience at such a young age, Strijd is still relatively unknown to the online world.
That being said, with her newfound status as an Angel, expect her star to shine brighter in 2016.
6. Sara Sampaio – The Pretty Portuguese
Born in Portugal, Sara Sampaio began her career in modeling shortly after winning the Cabelos Pantene contest in 2007. The win gave her a name, allowing her to feature in prominent TV ads like Axe’s body spray commercials in the U.S . In 2013, the Portugal-native was featured on the cover of the Portuguese GQ magazine.
But it was only in Nov. 2013 that her life would change forever as she made her debut in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Sampaio has since made the rounds in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, Vogue, Glamour, Elle, GQ and many others.
5. Jasmine Tookes – The American Beauty
Another athletic person makes this list. Born in Huntington Beach, California, Jasmine Tookes was destined to become a model because of her uncanny beautiful. Her modeling career began at the young age of 15, appearing in campaigns for Ugg Boots and Gap.
It wasn’t until 2012 that she made her first appearance for Victoria’s Secret during the annual fashion show. Since then, she’s made a name for herself after modeling for the likes of Calvin Klein, Tom Ford, and Versace. Now an Angel, expect bigger things from Tookes in 2016. We may just be starting to see the beginning of her ascension to super stardom.
4. Stella Maxwell – The International Girl
Stella Maxwell has an interesting history. Born to Northern Irish parents in Belgium, she attended school in the country until she moved to Canberra, Australia when she was just 13 years old. She was discovered while studying at the University of Otago.
Maxwell hasn’t made quite the impact as others have on this list, but she is primed for greater success after being named a Victoria’s Secret Angel. That isn’t to say her work up until now has been minimal. She’s modelled for Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs, and Moschino among many others. With a rumored relationship to Miley Cyrus, her name will be tossed around in the media world.
3. Taylor Hill – The Young Talent
Hill was a gymnast before becoming a model at the age of 14. She was discovered by a modeling agent. The Colorado-native would end up in print campaigns for Forever 21 before she modeled for H&M in 2014. That year, she also walked in Victoria’s Secret annual fashion show. Not too shabby for a newcomer.
Why is her star on the rise? In 2015, she was voted as 2015’s most promising model by Couturesque’s readers. That fact coupled with her recent status as a Victoria Secret Angel has her primed for an even better 2016.
2. Jac Jagaciak – Eyes That Kill
Okay, so her real name is Monika Jagaciak, but she goes by the name of Jac. In 2007 she began her modeling career thanks to her sister’s encouragement. She was discovered at a GAGA Models Agency open casting call in a Polish shopping centre. Jac eventually signed with IMG before quickly appearing on the cover of Jalouse. At only 13 years of age, she landed a gig for Hermes.
More impressive was her debut at New York Fashion Week at just 15-years old! Doing work for Donna Karan and others, it’s hard to imagine this Polish beauty slowing down anytime soon.
1. Kate Grigorieva – A Supermodel In The Making
Number 1 on our list is the very beautiful Kate Grigorieva of Russia. Though her modeling career got off to a rocky start as she failed to make an impact during the Miss Russia 2010 pageant, she featured in the fourth ever Russia’s Next Top Model show where she was the runner up. It was that performance which led to her signing with a modeling agency in New York.
The new Angel is described by Vogue as “highest-fashion” girl of the lineup. The model has the most potential in becoming a bonafide supermodel who could very well follow in the steps of countrywomen Irina Shayk.
