15 Hot And Steamy Movie Scenes That Made Actors Uncomfortable

via HBO

It seems like the sex scenes in TV shows and movies would be super fun to film. I mean, they sure look and sound like they are enjoying themselves, at least if they are good enough actors, but apparently that’s not always the case. There are actually a lot of actors who hate doing love scenes.

I find that hard to believe since I feel like spending the day making out with a smoking hot actor AND getting paid for it would be an ideal day at the office, but apparently that is not the case. A lot of movie stars have complained about doing sex scenes, and I’m not just talking about behind the scenes grievances. There have been a bunch that have gone on the record to complain about the intimate scenes in a pretty public manner.

My first reaction was “wow, I really don’t get it” because who wouldn’t want to make out with a hot celebrity? But then again, that has to be super-awkward sometimes. There are obviously people in the crew who are watching. You might not know the person well. You might be in a real life relationship. The other person might be in a relationship. Do these people get all the way naked? What “parts” are covered? What aren’t?

So now that I am really thinking about it, doing a sex scene has the potential to be the most incredibly awkward experience ever so I can see why these fifteen actors have complained about the love scenes that they’ve been a part of.

15. Angelina Jolie- Directed & Acted In Sex Scene With Husband

Angelina Jolie had the complex task of taking on many roles for the movie By the Sea. She was the director, writer, producer, and lead actress. Not only that, but she also had a sex scene with Brad Pitt– her real life husband- which she wrote, directed, produced, and acted in. So not only did she have to get at her man in front of the entire crew, but she had to critique the scene to improve it throughout the course of filming. Angelina said, “I’ve done sex scenes before. But this is obviously different. It’s the strangest thing in the world to be lying naked in a bathtub with an iPad that’s showing you the shot outside, while your husband is at the door and you’re directing him to come in and make love to you. In front of a bunch of other men with cameras.” She also joked, ” It was just so weird, I couldn’t get out of the bathtub to get to the monitor because the director is naked.” It definitely could have been worse though.

14. Vanessa Hudgens – Never Again

I am well aware that the movie Spring Breakers did not get the best reviews when it came out, but it will always be a guilty pleasure of mine. It’s obviously not the best film of all time, but I enjoyed watching it for all of its weirdness. One particularly interesting part of the movie was when James Franco’s character (pretty randomly) had a threesome with Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Benson. It didn’t really play into the plot, not that this kind of thing ever does, but still… So how did Vanessa Hudgens feel about the racy scene? Well apparently she really was not into it (at all) since she said, “It was very nerve-racking for me. I told my agent that I never want to do it ever again.” Sadly for all the Vanessa Hudgens admirers out there, it seems like this is the only racy scene that they will have to savor, but you never know: never say never- even though I just did, but hopefully you get what I’m saying.

13. Emilia Clarke- Doesn’t Want To Be Topless

I really am surprised to hear that any character on Game of Thrones is uncomfortable with gratuitous nudity. Emilia Clarke is one of those actors. Apparently she thinks that sex scenes should be more “subtle” with the justification being “I’m British.” Ummm, okay. That really doesn’t say much other than the fact that she might be on the wrong show if that’s really how she feels. Emilia said, “Most sex scenes you see in films or on TV are gratuitous and they’re usually just to attract an audience. … On screen, the subtler the better.” I agree with her, but she is definitely not playing the right role if that’s her opinion. Apparently Emilia asked if she could stop being in topless scenes on the show- again, this girl doesn’t seem to get that this is so standard for Game of Thrones. Who would have thought that there would have ever been a Game of Thrones actor who is opposed to nudity?

12. Kristen Stewart- Grotesquely Uncomfortable

via twifans.com

With the least amount of hate and shade possible, “awkward” is one of the first words that comes to my mind when I think of Kristen Stewart, so I’m really not shocked that she felt uncomfortable during a sex scene in Breaking Dawn. In general, Kristen Stewart has said, “I don’t mind them” when it comes to sex scenes. However, there was a major exception to her stance. Kristen explained, “I only hate them when they’re contrived. That’s when it’s grotesquely uncomfortable. On Twilight, we had to do the most epic sex scene of all time. It had to be transcendent and otherworldly, inhuman, better sex than you can possibly ever imagine, and we were like, ‘F**k. How do we live up to that?’ We were so self-consciously aware of that, me and Rob [Pattinson] and the producers. It was agony. Which sucks, because I wanted it to be so good. Other than that, sex scenes are the same as any other normal scene.” Well okay, then. So this one scene was super-uncomfortable, but Kristen is totally down to get down most of the time.

11. Henry Cavill- Hard Time On The Set

via henrycavillnews.com

Henry Cavill didn’t feel awkward because he was uncomfortable while shooting a sex scene, but it was awkward because he was comfortable- very comfortable. Henry reminisced: “It’s only happened to me once, and it was very embarrassing. A girl had to be on top of me, she had spectacular breasts, and I hadn’t rearranged my — stuff into a harmless position. She’s basically rubbing herself all over me and, um, it got a bit hard.” Oh my god. Holy awkwardness. Henry also admitted, “I had to apologize profusely afterward. It’s not great when you’re in a professional acting environment and somebody gets a boner, is it? No, not acceptable.” Well, yeah I don’t feel like that is at all professional in any work environment, but I feel like the poor dude really could not help it. I’m sure he didn’t even enjoy it- to a certain extent, anyway. But poor dude, props to him for at least finding some humor in the situation.

10. James McAvoy- Doesn’t Enjoy Them

Via: http://www.mynewplaidpants.com/2013/06/all-filth-you-can-handle-times-two.html

via mynewplaidpants.com

Apparently James McAvoy is another one of those actors who just doesn’t enjoy the sex scenes. I don’t blame him. The whole thing sounds like a lot of pressure with the crew all around and then there’s all the people who watch the movie. It’s a lot of pressure to live up to and then having a personal life can make things even more complicated. (Most) people don’t want to make out with someone if they are in a committed relationship, or at least I hope they don’t want to. James McAvoy explained why the sex scenes will never be his thing, no matter how good of an actor he may be: “I don’t really enjoy them. For one thing, you’re not in love with the person. Hopefully, there’s someone out there that you would rather be kissing. It just makes it all seem a bit strange.” That’s understandable, but I feel like this is probably the easiest job difficulty to have. Kissing a hot person that you’re not dating definitely has its upsides, right?

9. Reese Witherspoon- Would Have Fired Herself

Via: http://djardine.blogspot.com/2015/02/wild-usa-2014-jean-marc-vallee-ben.html?view=classic

via blogspot.com

Reese Witherspoon has always been someone that I view as a friend in my head, so of course I feel bad that she felt at all uncomfortable filming a sex scene with two male actors in the movie The Wild. Reese has said: “There were small descriptions in the script, but when he started describing what we were going to do, that’s when I started to panic. That’s, like, 3% of the movie, but it took up a tremendous amount of fear in my mind because it’s daunting … Sometimes I was just terrified. Like a cat on a raft… ‘You can’t make me do it.'” Reese also said, “I would have fired myself a couple of times during rehearsals because I was so scared, oh my God. Got my s**t together, but it took me a while.” Poor Reese. Thankfully my girl was able to pull through though.

8. Blake Lively- An Awkward First Day Of Work

via movpins.com

via movpins.com

My mental image of Blake Lively is that she is just one of the coolest girls on the planet. It just seems like she would be pretty chill in response to any scenario, even a sex scene, but apparently that is not the case. Blakey Lively had a pretty hot sex scene with Ben Affleck in the movie The Town. She has been acting her whole life and her family has a lot of involvement with the industry, so I just figured it was something she would be used to, but she wasn’t. Blake explained why the racy scene made her feel uncomfortable: “Well, I have a big family and no one ever treated me like a child. They always treated me like an adult, like an equal. But with acting, I think half of it is just acting confident. We stand on these red carpets and pose in these dresses, but we’re all only so confident. It doesn’t mean we think we’re great looking or anything. It’s all a facade. But the sex scene was really awkward. It was my first day, so thank you for that.” Yeah, that’s a little much for a first day of work- no matter how much experience you may have.

7. Jamie Dornan- Not Comfortable As Christian Grey

I think it’s very off base for someone who signed up to be in Fifty Shades of Grey to have trepidation about simulating sex on camera. I mean come on, that is literally the entire plot of the movie. You really need to check your nerves at the door if you want to be a part of this movie, but then again it was very awkward for me to watch as a viewer, so I am really not one to talk. But anyway, I still think it’s a weird role to take on if you aren’t comfortable with the racy antics. But nevertheless, Jamie Dornan, the man who played Christian Grey wasn’t totally at ease playing the character. He said, “Some of the Red Room stuff was uncomfortable. There were times when Dakota was not wearing much, and I had to do stuff to her that I’d never choose to do to a woman.” Well, yeah. That’s how we all felt watching it, I don’t blame you, man. But maybe he should have thought more about accepting this part.

6. Dave Franco- Giant Pimple On His Ass

Dave-Franco-Neighbors

via newnownext.com

I didn’t think that anyone in the Franco family would ever be uncomfortable with anything remotely sexual, but there are exceptions. Dave Franco explained why he disliked his Neighbors sex scene by saying, “It was nerve-wracking.” Without being mean, his reasoning is actually pretty hilarious. Dave said: “I met the girl the day before and she was beautiful and very sweet, but it’s awkward. You meet each other and then you’re grinding—you don’t even know her name, barely. You have 20 crew members who are also watching you do it. And then, of course, for me, I woke up that morning and I had a giant pimple on my ass…It sucks, right? I had to go to the makeup artist who I had also met that week and be like, ‘Can we go in the other room and you’ll put makeup literally on my ass?” So that was that.” That’s a pretty valid reason to be nervous. Hopefully there was some makeup concealing his booty or at the very least some favorable editing.

5. Jennifer Lawrence- Drunk To Ease The Nerves

via youtube.com

Jennifer Lawrence was very uncomfortable about doing her sex scene with Chris Pratt. She said, “Everything was done right; nobody did anything wrong. It’s just a bizarre experience.” So what bothered her about it? Jennifer explained: “It led to more anxiety when I got home because I was like, ‘What have I done? I don’t know..’ He was married, and it was going to be my first time kissing a married man and guilt is the worst feeling in your stomach.” She dealt with the anxiety by getting “really, really drunk.” She also consulted her mom for advice. Jennifer admitted, “So I called my mom, and I was like, ‘Will you just tell me it’s okay?’ I was just very vulnerable. That was the most vulnerable I’ve ever been.” I don’t think that I would ever call my mom for any sort of sex-related advice, but we are all different and I guess that’s what Jennifer needed to get through it.

4. Matt Damon- Only One Take

Via: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLgy54t-k8s

via youtube.com

Matt Damon and Michael Douglas did not hold back for their love scenes in the TV movie Behind the Candelabra. The two of them really went there and there were A LOT of sex scenes in that movie. Apparently it was pretty awkward since they did not do many takes to get it right. Matt Damon said: “The scene where I’m behind him and going at him, we did that in one take. We do it. Cut. There’s a long pause. And then you just hear Steven go, “Well… I have no notes.” So I guess he was comfortable to simulate sex once for the scene, but not more than that? I don’t really get it. I kind of figured that once you did something like that it really didn’t matter if it happened again, but then again, maybe they just did it perfectly on the first take? Who even knows.

3. Jennifer Aniston- One-sided Sex Scene

Via: http://www.hollywood.com/general/jennifer-aniston-wants-benedict-cumberbatch-for-horrible-bosses-3-59114383/

via hollywood.com

I figured that sex scene with Jennifer Aniston would be hot, but her one-sided scene in the movie Horrible Bosses 2 made me feel all sort of discomfort since it was not mutual. Jennifer explained: “It was kind of not mutual. Because it was a… Charlie Day’s character is in a coma, and I exploit him whilst he was in a coma..” Ummm yeah, that’s definitely treading on some delicate territory, aside from any normal nerves that she could have had during a sex-related scene. Jennifer also admitted, “Terrifying thing to shoot by the way, because normally you have a partner with you to be like, ‘God this is hard’ and like, ‘Yeah, this is weird’.” Well yeah, that had to be extremely weird to be in the spotlight in such a way with a fellow actor who had to remain in character as a comatose. Such a weird scene to put in any movie. Yikes. I really don’t blame Jennifer Aniston for not feeling at ease about this one.

2. Kurt Russell- Not Necessary To The Plot

shutterstock_181664720

Apparently, Kurt Russell was offered the lead role in An Officer and a Gentleman, but he didn’t take it because there were sex scenes that he did not believe were necessary to the story. He just didn’t get the point of faking a sex scene for no reason. Kurt explained: “In my career, I’ve only done a couple of scenes in which there was open sexuality, and it was always a story point. I didn’t find a story point in that one—they were just letting you know that people like to f**k. My problem with that is that everybody knows you’re faking it. That’s just not the way I work. Fake-f**king is tough.” Yeah, I guess he has a point. So I take that to mean that he doesn’t hate sex scenes in a general sense, but he just wants sex scenes that are necessary to the plot points? Fair enough.

1. Natalie Portman- Awkward With A BFF

via gangsta-original.com

Initially, Natalie Portman was super-excited to have her good friend Mila Kunis star with her in the movie Black Swan, but then she took a step back and realized that it meant she had to get very friendly with her. Portman admitted, “I didn’t really think through the fact that I was going to have to have sex with her in the movie.” She also explained why it actually might have been better to do intimate scenes with someone she didn’t know as well. She said: “It was pretty awkward. I almost feel like it would be easier to do it with someone you didn’t know. But, having said that, it was great to have a friend there who, we could laugh and make jokes and get over it together.” Obviously it all ended up okay in the end. She had support from her good friend and they ended up making an amazing movie.
