A doppelganger is defined as “an apparition or double of a living person.” A doppelganger is basically just an incredibly similar look-alike. It’s an extremely strange and eerie phenomenon. You may be walking down the street and catch the eye of your exact double. At that moment, don’t ignore the universe’s cosmic power, embrace it. It’s probably best to acknowledge the strangeness and work in accord, effectively combining powers, working together to restore sanity and peace to this mad world.
Or you could just ask your look-alike to take a photo with you to post on your respective social media platforms, sharing and commemorating the strangeness of standing next to someone who looks almost exactly like you. Or you could invite him or her to watch the incredible movie Twins starring Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger (for obvious reasons). If you do approach your doppelganger in a real life interaction, be sure to initiate the conversation by saying “will you be the Mary-Kate to my Ashley?” or vice versa. Or you could just walk by and be like, “yo, that dude kind of looks like me” to one of your friends. There’s really no wrong answer, this isn’t a word problem. But now that I’ve proofed what I’ve written it does kind of read like one.
Whatever, the point is, everyone has someone that looks weirdly like them, even super famous celebrities. This list of 10 famous look-alikes will have you scratching your head and doing double takes.
10. Zooey Deschanel and Katy Perry
Zooey Deschanel is an American actress/singer/songwriter. She is the lead in New Girl on Fox, and has also starred in a variety of (mostly good) films like 500 Days of Summer. Deschanel is also part of the indie-pop duo She & Him alongside esteemed musician M. Ward. Deschanel’s doe-eyed look is not unlike pop superstar Katy Perry. Perry is one of the entertainment industry’s most successful superstars having earned $135 million in the last year alone! That’s a lot of cheese. While Deschanel and Perry’s music is incredibly different, their looks are not. The two brunette beauties are definite doppelgangers.
9. Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley
Natalie Portman is a Hollywood actress who began her career as a child starring in the 90’s classic Leon: The Professional. She then played a pivotal role in the Star Wars prequels. Portman earned an Oscar in 2010 for her incredible performance in Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan. Portman’s doppelganger is Keira Knightley, another child star who has grown into one of cinema’s most impressive actresses. Knightley has been nominated for two Academy Awards but has yet to win. Quite similar, indeed.
8. Sarah Hyland and Mila Kunis
Sarah Hyland is best known for her portrayal of Haley Dunphy on the uproariously funny ABC sitcom, Modern Family. Hyland plays a hot, self-involved, quasi-bitchy twenty-something who’s just trying to figure her life out. It’s a classic millennial narrative in that it’s nontraditional and she is still living in her parents house in her twenties. Perhaps the character is more archetypical though, as Hyland’s character on Modern Family is not unlike Jackie Burkhart, the character Mila Kunis played on That 70s Show. It just so happens that the two also look incredibly alike. They both have brown hair and brown eyes, a petite frame and are undeniably stunning.
7. Bryce Dallas Howard and Jessica Chastain
Bryce Dallas Howard is a Hollywood actress who is possibly most well known for her role in this summer’s Jurassic World. She is also the daughter of Hollywood super producer, actor and director Ron Howard. Bryce is a gorgeous red-haired starlet who just so happens to look a lot like fellow actress Jessica Chastain. Chastain is a Hollywood vet best known for her role in Zero Dark Thirty and worst known for her role in the god-awful second season of True Detective. The two striking redheads look weirdly similar and, in some instances, it’s extremely difficult to tell the two actresses apart.
6. Kat Dennings and Marion Cotillard
Kat Dennings is a beautiful, young American actress best known for her role on 2 Broke Girls. My favorite Dennings flick is the cult classic, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Dennings co-starred in the flick with Michael Cera and I couldn’t recommend it enough. Dennings’ doppelganger is Academy Award-winning French actress Marion Cotillard. Cotillard is a master of her craft and one of the most respected Hollywood actresses of the modern era. She has starred in everything from Inception to The Dark Knight Rises to Anchorman 2: The Legend continues.
5. Ellen DeGeneres and Edie Falco
Comedian Ellen DeGeneres has held down her daytime talk show slot since 2003, becoming a TV fixture in the process. DeGeneres looks a lot like Edie Falco. Falco is a Brooklyn-born actress who has played pivotal roles in some of cable TV’s most celebrated shows. Her stellar TV run began with her role as Diane Whittlesey in HBO’s prison-based OZ. She followed that performance with her role as Carmela Soprano on HBO’s The Sopranos, arguably the best show ever on the airwaves. She then continued her success on premium cable shows by starring as the title role on Showtime’s Nurse Jackie.
4. Hilary Swank and Jennifer Garner
Hilary Swank is another great actress who started her career early. After starring in Buffy, The Vampire Slayer and The Next Karate Kid, Swank was primed for breakout success. Swank has won Best Actress Oscars on two occasions (Boys Don’t Cry in 1999 and Million Dollar Baby in 2004). Jennifer Garner is also an esteemed Hollywood veteran having started her career starring on ABC’s sci-fi thriller Alias. Since then, Garner has starred in a wide range of movies including some critical darlings like Juno and Million Dollar Baby. Garner has three children with actor/director Ben Affleck.
3. Amber Heard and Scarlett Johansson
Amber Heard made her feature film debut in the great high school football film Friday Night Lights. She has parlayed that into appearances in a variety of Hollywood features, some good and some bad (Alpha Dog, Zombieland and Pineapple Express among the good; Drive Angry and The Rum Diary among the very bad). Although Heard came out of the closet at GLAAD’s 25th anniversary gala, she doesn’t label herself straight or gay. She openly dated Johnny Depp after co-starring in the god awful Hunter S. Thompson miscalculation The Rum Diary. Heard’s doppelganger is Scarlett Johansson who needs no formal introduction.
2. Margot Robbie and Jaime Pressly
Margot Robbie is an Australian actress who burst onto the scene after her breakout role as Leonardo DiCaprio‘s love interest in Martin Scorsese’s 2013 film The Wolf of Wall Street. Robbie had already appeared in a variety of places (the Australian soap opera Neighbours, the short-lived ABC sitcom Pan Am and the time travel rom-com About Time) but The Wolf Of Wall Street was her true breakout. Robbie looks a lot like fellow blonde starlet, Jaime Pressly. Pressly is best known for her role as Joy Turner on NBC’s My Name Is Earl. Mostly known as a comedic actress, Pressly has also starred in Not Another Teen Movie, Joe Dirt and I Love You, Man.
1. Minka Kelly and Leighton Meester
Minka Kelly is a gorgeous American actress who has starred in a variety of films. From lighter fare in 500 Days of Summer to horror in The Roommate to full-on award contender, playing Jackie Kennedy in Lee Daniels’ The Butler. Kelly has begun to demonstrate her serious acting chops, proving herself as more than just a pretty face. Her doppelganger is actually her co-star from The Roommate, Leighton Meester. Meester has also had a variety of acting gigs: from teen soap Gossip Girl to Adam Sandler’s campy That’s My Boy to starring in Of Mice and Men on Broadway. Both of these gorgeous women have incredibly bright careers ahead of them, now if we could only tell them apart.
