When a major car accident occurs involving a celebrity, the entire world hears about it.   An example of this is when actor Paul Walker tragically died in 2013. The Fast and the Furious star was driving his Porsche in California and lost control, thus slamming into a tree. His vehicle was quickly engulfed by flames, and he died within minutes. All major news outlets and entertainment shows were talking about it that day. Also, the same thing happened when actress Lindsay Lohan hit a minivan while avoiding paparazzi in Los Angeles. Most people were mocking it, but the story received national exposure.

There have been many car crashes involving household names that you probably didn’t hear about. If it’s minor or doesn’t involve a major Hollywood star, the incident typically isn’t discussed that much by the media. Plus, celebrities are protective of their brand and don’t want any negative publicity.

Most people who get into a car accident that results in significant damage have to go without a vehicle for a while. That’s not the case for celebrities who make millions of dollars. They have the ability to get a damaged $125,000 Mercedes replaced by simply buying another one, or coming out-of-pocket to get it fixed immediately. And that’s exactly what some of them have done. Actor Mel Gibson crashed his $110,000 Maserati into a Malibu hillside in 2010. He wasn’t under the influence of alcohol or injured. However, his luxury ride suffered damages that racked up over $10,000 in damages. According to TMZ, the Oscar winner told police he didn’t know how the car drifted out of the lane. Within an hour, Mel was picked up by a friend and left the scene.

NFL quarterback Tom Brady was in a two-car accident in 2014 near his home. A witness told the Associated Press that the athlete hit a minivan as he was approaching an intersection while the lights were green. A 21-year-old, Ludgero Rodrigues, was behind the wheel and ran a red light. Tom wasn’t injured in the crash, but his black Audi sedan had significant damage. Luckily, the two-time Superbowl MVP didn’t have to pay the bill.

Reality television star Kylie Jenner was involved in a car accident at the age of sixteen, back in 2013. After only 18 days of obtaining her license, she hit her brand new $125,000 Mercedes G-Wagon into the back of a Toyota. That same vehicle then hit the back of a Subaru SUV due to the force of being hit from behind by Kylie. The Toyota suffered significant damage, but the Subaru only needed minor repairs according to TMZ. Although the teenage superstar was apologetic, that didn’t keep her from getting slapped with a lawsuit. The woman driving the Subaru sued Kylie for being a negligent driver, and also Kris Jenner since they think she’s the registered owner of the Mercedes. After that accident, Kylie was in another one and also received a speeding ticket.

Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps hasn’t been lucky on the road. He’s received two DUIs in the last 11 years–one in 2004 and the other in 2014. So, it wasn’t surprising when he was involved in a car accident in Baltimore several years ago. Amanda Virkus was driving her Honda Accord in the early evening when she ran a red light at an intersection. The 18-time gold medalist crashed his Cadillac Escalade into the driver’s side of her car. According to ESPN, there was only minor damage to both vehicles. No one was injured, but Michael was driving with an invalid license.

In 2008 actor Morgan Freeman almost lost his life in a major car crash. He was driving on the road when he lost control and veered off the highway. The 1997 Nissan Maxima flipped over several times and ended up in a ditch. Both him and the other person in the car had to be cut free from the badly damaged vehicle. Morgan was then rushed to a hospital where he was on the operating table for almost five hours. Despite having broken bones and being in pain, the Oscar winner was apparently joking around with some of the rescue workers.

Back in 1996, singer Bobby Brown crashed Whitney Houston‘s black Porsche into a street sign. According to police records Bobby was speeding, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle. His blood-alcohol level was .22, and his urine tests were positive for cocaine. The singer suffered several broken ribs and a broken foot in the accident. Ultimately, a jury convicted him of two counts of drunk driving.

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman walked away from a bad car accident in 2010. He was the passenger in a green Range Rover that was driving on the highway at a legal speed limit. After one of the tires blew out, the car flipped over three times and Dennis had to be helped out of the vehicle. He wasn’t injured, but the driver had to be taken to the hospital for treatment. According to the Huffington Post, Dennis told his agent after the crash: “I’m still living brother. They can’t get rid of me.”

Did you know that singer Billy Joel is considered one of Hollywood’s worst drivers? In 2002, he slammed his Mercedes into a wall. Then, Billy totaled another car after veering off the road and hitting a tree. A year later, the star drove one of his vintage cars into the home of a 94-year-old woman in 2004. There wasn’t major damage to the woman’s house and no one was injured. According to USA Today, Billy was embarrassed about slamming into the residence, then again who wouldn’t be?

In 1973, at the age of 23, singer Stevie Wonder was involved in a car crash. His cousin was driving as they were headed to a benefit performance for a radio station. Stevie was in the front passenger seat when a 1948 Dodge hit them. The legendary singer was critically injured and unresponsive at the scene of the accident. He eventually recovered after staying in the hospital for two weeks. Stevie still has a scar on his forehead from the accident. When someone suggested that he get plastic surgery to remove the scar he replied: “I will leave it as one of the scars of life I went through.”

Superstar Angelina Jolie was involved in a car accident in late 2014. A hired driver was behind the wheel when they lost control do to the rain. The vehicle started to skid, hit a curb, and two of the tires exploded. The actress was leaving a screening of her film Unbroken before the incident. It only took a few minutes for a new driver to appear and take the actress to another event to promote her film. No one was injured in the accident.

2. Eva Longoria

In 2010 Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria was involved in a two-car accident. She was driving her BMW and hit another car. According to the police report, the other driver was at fault and admitted to it. However, Eva was sued by the driver for physical and mental suffering. One of Eva’s representatives told TMZ: “Longoria made no sudden turn, did not violate any traffic violations nor did she make any sudden lane changes. The other driver is clearly trying to make a case where there is none.” In 2012, both parties were able to reach an undisclosed settlement.

This is not the only car trouble Longoria has been involved in. Back in 2006 while leaving celeb hairstylist Ken Paves’ salon, Eva’s Range Rover was hit by a Ford Taurus. Luckily she wasn’t driving at the time however her car was still a little marked up.

1. Brandy

Back in 2006, R&B singer Brandy was involved in a car accident that lead to a fatality. According to law enforcement, she was driving a 2007 Land Rover at 65 mph and didn’t see that cars had slowed down. Her car hit a 2005 Toyota in front of her, which then hit another Toyota. The 2005 Toyota slid sideways and hit the center divider. When it came to a stop, an Acura struck it. As a result, the woman–Awatef Aboudihaj–was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died the next day. The story wasn’t highly publicized because Brandy had a representative release the following statement: “Brandy was involved in a car accident Dec. 30, 2006 in Los Angeles where there was a fatality. She wishes to publicly express her condolences to the family of the deceased. Brandy asks that you respect the privacy of everyone involved at this time.” This was an accident that had a very sad ending.
