Jay-Z is an American rapper, record executive, and businessman with an estimated net worth of 1. 4 billion as of March 2021 according to Forbes magazine. His real name is Shawn Corey Carter and is widely regarded as one of the most influential hip-hop artists of all time. He is married to Beyonce Knowles Carter and the couple share three children together.
Shawn Corey Carter was born on December 4, 1969, in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. Marcy Houses, a housing complex in Brooklyn's Bedford–Stuyvesant neighborhood, was where he grew up. Jay-Z and his three siblings were raised by their mother, Gloria Carter, after their father, Adnis Reeves, who later abandoned the family. Shortly before his death in 2003, Reeves met and reconciled with Jay-Z. He also went to Brooklyn's Eli Whitney High School until it closed. He then went to nearby George Westinghouse Career and Technical Education High School, where he met rappers The Notorious B.I.G. and Busta Rhymes, and then to Trenton Central High School, where he did not graduate.
Him and Beyonce have a shared net worth of 350 million. As a family, they live in a $88 million home in Los Angeles' Bel-Air neighborhood. Beyoncé and Jay-Z were named the most popular pair in Time magazine's 100 most influential people of 2006, despite their general aversion to publicizing their relationship.
Jay-Z is one of the best-selling musicians in the world, having sold more than 50 million albums and 75 million singles worldwide. He holds the record for the most number-one albums by a solo artist on the Billboard 200, with 14, and has received a total of 22 Grammy Awards, the most by a rapper. He was named one of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time by Billboard and Rolling Stone, two other music publications. In 2017, he became the first artist to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and at the 60th Grammy Awards in 2018, he received the commemorative "Salute to Industry Icons" award. Jay-Z became the first hip hop billionaire in June 2019, making him the fifth richest African American and the richest American artist.
Jay-Z has achieved considerable popularity and media recognition for his businesses in addition to his music career. He founded the clothing retailer Rocawear in 1999 and the luxury sports bar chain 40/40 Club in 2003. Both companies have evolved to be multi-billion-dollar enterprises, allowing Jay-Z to finance the establishment of the entertainment company Roc Nation, which he created in 2008. He purchased the tech firm Aspiro in 2015 and became the CEO of Tidal, the company's media streaming service. He is also launching a cannabis product line called "Monogram" in December 2020.
Thanks to recent deals with Jack Dorsey's Square and LVMH, Jay-Z's $1 billion net worth has increased by 40%. Forbes reports that he is now worth $1.4 billion after selling a majority stake in TIDAL to Dorsey's Square, Inc. for $297 million and 50% of his Armand de Brignac champagne brand to LVMH for $640 million. Forbes estimated that the rapper/businessman has $425 million in cash and shares, including stakes in Uber, Sweetgreen, Ethos, and SpaceX, as part of his $1.4 billion fortune. Jay-Z's Armand de Brignac contract is worth at least $320 million dollars, while his Roc Nation label is worth $140 million dollars. The cognac brand D'Usse is worth $120 million dollars, and his vast music collection is worth $95 million dollars. Finally, his art collection at $70 million USD and real estate property at $50 million USD.
