Oh the need for speed. We all have it in us, even if it is more evident in some than in others. Some of us keep it buried down deep, kind of like a secret. But others don’t have anything to hide. They like to go fast and that’s all there is to it. You can’t go through a day in life without seeing or at least hearing a vehicle that has been fixed up to go as fast as possible. Some neighborhoods are annoyingly filled with the sounds of revving engines day and night as their residents work on their cars.
There are several car companies that do it for us though. They make the fastest and very best cars in the world. This way you can buy them like that and no work is needed on your part. Unfortunately, the average person can’t afford to buy these vehicles so we have to suffer through the cheaper and noisier upgrades of our neighbors.
For those that can afford them, there are some real beauties out on the market. On this list, the most inexpensive vehicle goes for just $52,000, but some of these vehicles have upgrade packages that cost more than your average new Ford or Chevy. That’s just insane. But it’s nice to read about them and dream isn’t it?
Here are the top 10 fastest SUVs in the world. If you see something you like, go on out and grab one. And don’t forget mine!
10. Audi RS Q3: 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds
In 2013, the Audi RS Q3 was released to the public in Europe. People that love the world of cars were immediately taken aback by the power that came with this beauty. Car enthusiasts in the United States have been waiting for three years now for it to be sold here, but reports say that it won’t be. Which means if it catches your eye, you’re probably going to have to go over there and bring one back.
The turbocharged five cylinder engine can get up to 62 miles per hour in just 4.8 seconds. It’s a 2.5 litre and the higher power at lower RPMs gives it the ability to get up to the maximum speed of 155 miles per hour very quickly.
The car is pretty light and is very well balanced and it’s controlled by the Audi Quattro-all-wheel-drive system. It has leather seats and LED headlights that will light up the road like you have never seen. That’s a nice bonus when you are going to be moving that fast after dark.
The cost over there runs around 46,000 Euros so if you are planning a little European trip, you better bring at least $52,000 with you. Amazingly this is the slowest car on this list.
9. Mercedes AMG GLS63: 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds
The Mercedes AMG GLS63 can’t be considered first class. It can only be considered in a class of its own. The car is one of the best ever designed for aerodynamics and the wheel arches are a little wider to give it that mean, broad look.
It has a twin-turbo 5.5 litre V8 motor that kicks out around 580 horsepower. The rear biased AMG Performance all-wheel-drive system will assure that you can always have great control of the vehicle while you are plowing through the seven speeds of its automatic tranny.
Three rows of seating allow for six other friends to join you as you enjoy some of the best technology that’s available. Some of the great options with this beauty are active lane keep, blind-spot assist and active cruise control. It comes with crosswind assist, brake assist and collision preventing assist. And it can be all yours for around $125,000.
8. Range Rover Sport SVR: 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds
Range Rover has long been known to be a top of the line product for vehicles. The Sport SVR doesn’t disappoint for fans of the Range Rover line. It has a 550 horsepower 5.0 litre supercharged V8 motor that is made of all aluminum.
The engine is extremely strong with a top performance level. The cast iron cylinder liners, along with the cross bolted main bearing caps, guarantee one of the best performing engines you have come across in a while. This model is also the first to get the new high-performance SRV badge from Land Rover.
While it may go very fast very quickly, if you’re the type of person to worry about gas mileage you’d better skip this one. It gets only around 14-19 miles per gallon so you’ll be stopping at the gas station a lot. But if you can afford the price tag of over $110,000 for the vehicle, you probably aren’t worrying about the price of gas.
7. Mercedes AMG GLA45: 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds

Everyone knows that Porsche makes some of the best cars that are available. The Macan Turbo is no different and it’s one of the best of the best. It can carry five people up to speeds of around 164 miles per hour, although I don’t know why you’d want to go that fast with your family in the car. Maybe you’re running late for Grandma’s birthday party and need to make up some time?
It has a 400 horsepower twin-turbo V-6 that more than gets the job done. The all-wheel-drive system is one of the best and it includes a seven-speed transmission. You better fill up the gas tank before heading to Grandma’s though. It only gets about 17-23 miles per gallon, but as long as she doesn’t live too far away you should make it in time. You can buy one for the bargain price of around $76,000.
5. Mercedes AMG GLE63/Coupe: 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds
The Mercedes AMG GLS63/Coupe is in the same class as its sister, the AMG GLE63. It’s a two car race for the top of that elusive class and they run neck and neck. It’s a little quicker than its sister, but it still uses one of the best designs for aerodynamics.
It has a biturbo 5.5 litre V8 motor that kicks out 577 horse power. It contains an all-wheel-drive system that will assure you of great control of the vehicle while you work your way through the seven speed automatic transmission.
It’s been reported that it can actually hit 60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds, but that’s not confirmed as of yet. But what is confirmed is that it has steering wheel mounted paddles that will allow you to shift on your own if that’s something you want to do.
With an estimated 14-18 miles per gallon it’s not really good on gas. But for the bargain price of $110,000, why not buy two of them? His and hers! I can see them in your driveway now!
4. BMW X5M/X6M: 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds
BMW has been making vehicles for the toughest of car enthusiasts for years. Each year when a new model comes out there are more improvements that the company brings to the world. In 2010 when they released the X5M and X6M they hit the jackpot.
They boast a 4.4 litre turbocharged direct-injection V8 motor that pumps out 567 horsepower. The company also replaced the old six speed transmission with a new eight speed. If you are looking for top speeds of around 155 miles per hour you’ll want to bring this baby out for a test drive for sure.
As you would expect with a BMW vehicle only the best of the best goes into it. The brakes are top of the line and the Merino leather interior runs about $3,000. If you like to listen to great tunes while cruising at over 100 miles per hour you’ll have access to a Bang & Olufsen sound system that runs a little less than four grand. If you are giving serious thought to making the purchase you can also take advantage of the Executive package for an addition $4,500. 3. Bentley Bentayga: 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds
Bentley says that its Bentayga is the fastest SUV in the world. And that very well might be true. It can rip out 600 horsepower that gives it a top speed of around 187 miles per hour. But that may be just a little too fast for your family when heading to the mall. The top speed is hit by the twin-turbo 6.0 litre V12 engine. The vehicle possesses 664 lb-ft of torque and has an automatic transmission with eight gears and an all-wheel-drive system as well.
Bentley uses the finest leather that’s available in the world for its seats so you know you are in for a more than comfortable ride. The company says that they will be releasing a hybrid powertrain version as well as a diesel version. But for right now you can pick up one of these beauties for only $230,000.
2. Porsche Cayenne Turbo S: 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds
This one comes in two different versions: the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and the Turbo S. And as you would expect from a Porsche, both vehicles are top of the line without question. The company reports that the Turbo S can reach 176 miles per hour and it’s been confirmed to hit 170mph so that report from the company seems accurate.
The Turbo S blasts out 570 horsepower while the Turbo kicks out 520. Both cars have an eight speed automatic transmission and make use of a twin turbo 4.8 litre V8 motor. They are both well equipped to handle all of that horsepower with outstanding control and a top quality braking system. The Turbo S has ceramic brakes to slow down the 21 inch wheels and has torque vectoring.
Both have an adjustable suspension system for great handling and make use of an all-wheel-drive system. Don’t expect much in terms of gas performance though. As you would expect they range from about 14-21 miles per gallon. The Turbo will run you around $118,000 and the Turbo S can cost as much as $160,000. Is that all? Sign me up for a couple of them!
1. Tesla Model X: 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds
The Tesla Model X is on the wish list for any car enthusiast. Even the most basic model will get you to 60 miles per hour in 6.2 seconds. But should you decide to upgrade to the P90D Performance All-Wheel Drive package the news only gets better for you. Obviously, the more you spend the better performance that you will get.
It can be configured to hold up to seven people and the miles per gallon rating is a non-issue considering the vehicle is fully electric. It’s by far the best of any vehicle on this list.
It uses an all-wheel-drive system and it has those beautiful Falcon Wing doors. But keep in mind that they look awesome but they don’t always work as awesome as they look. The doors seem to be the only drawback to this vehicle.
Tesla says that the Model X is “The safest, fastest and most capable sport utility vehicle in history.” If you have an extra $81,000 lying around go ahead and give one a try!
