When most people envision Dubai, they think of luxury hotels, sparkling skyscrapers and excessive amounts of wealth. So when we discovered how lavishly the city’s elite police force operated, we can’t say we were surprised. Under the jurisdiction of the ruler of Dubai, the 15,000 member strong force covers a vast 4,114 square kilometers and a population of over 2 million people. To do so, they drive some of the most beautiful cars you have ever laid your eyes upon. While the average police car in America is a tired-looking sedan, Dubai cops are rolling around in Lamborghinis and Ferraris that can go over 200 miles an hour. For an only fifty-year-old force that boasted just 29 members in 1956, its level of modernity in 2015 is astounding.
There are 10 police stations spread across Dubai and officers are easily recognizable in the standard uniform of a green shirt with a red banner running under the left arm. They couple this with a dark green beret, green pants and black boots. Female officers typically wear the uniform with a headscarf, as Dubai is an Islamic nation. Both sexes carry semi-automatic handguns and have access to a wide variety of weapons including shotguns, rifles, flash grenades and tasers. Becoming a member of Dubai’s police force is considered an elite privilege, as the level of education they must complete before attaining their badge is worthy of the highest international standards. The force’s fleet of cars are painted white and dark green and are easily recognizable by the website and e-mail address printed on them. If you’re ready to endure serious automobile envy, read on to discover some of Dubai’s most badass police vehicles.
10. Nissan GT-R
Comically, the $100,000 Nissan GT-R is considered one of the Dubai police force’s least expensive patrol cars. This high-powered model is one of the most standard ones you’ll see patrolling the city’s streets and has a twin-turbo V6 engine putting out 545 horsepower. The car can reach a top speed of 196 miles per hour, making it an ideal choice for high-speed car chases to nab the bad guys. Its super sexy, sleek two-door design doesn’t hurt its cause either. It was added to the Dubai police force’s fleet in 2013.
9. Ferrari FF
Ferrari faced a lot of criticism when it put out its FF four-seater model. Fans felt like the brand had taken away from their signature design and created an ugly, basic looking vehicle. If you can get past the car’s looks, its inner workings will blow your mind. As an all-wheel drive model, you can go from 0-60 miles per hour in just 3.7 seconds and hit an insane 208 miles per hour at top speed. It’s got a stunning V12 engine and is the world’s fastest four seater car, retailing at over $300,000.
8. Audi R8 V10
The Audi R8 V10 can jump from zero to 60 mph in under four seconds flat. As if that weren’t enough of an adrenaline rush, it’s got a 525 horsepower engine that is borrowed directly from the Lamborghini Gallardo – yep, a hybrid Audi-Lamborghini vehicle. The best of both worlds. The Dubai Police like the model so much that they’ve added two to their workforce. There’s been criticism that the Audi isn’t as luxurious as the other cars on the force, but so far it’s been keeping up pretty dang well.
7. Mercedes-Benz Brabus G 700
The Brabus G 700 is one intimidating looking car. Brabus, the largest tuning company in the world, paired up with Mercedes to create this beast of a truck and the result is gorgeous. It’s got a 563 horsepower G63 engine and retails for a jaw dropping $300,000. While this is probably the model that is best suited to go off-roading out of all of the police force’s fleet, we highly doubt that the Dubai police let dirt get anywhere near this beauty. But you can definitely bet that anyone engaged in a chase with it or seeing it approach will be paralyzed with awe (or fear).
6. Aston Martin One-77
With only 77 units produced across the globe, the Aston Martin One-77’s name is quite fitting. The model costs $1.4 million and the Dubai police force seemingly didn’t blink twice before adding it to their super-fleet. The car features a two-door coupe style as well as a hand-crafted aluminum body and a V12 engine with a mind-blowing 750 horsepower. Its interior is constructed of full carbon fibre and the model can reach speeds of up to 220 miles per hour. The Aston Martin One-77 has won design awards across the globe, which might justify it costing more than most police departments’ annual budgets.
5. Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
You know a car is truly badass when it comes equipped with gull-wing doors. By this point, after reading about the Dubai police’s force’s automobile collection above it probably shouldn’t surprise you that they also own a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. The car can go from 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds and has a V8 engine with 539 horsepower. This is a front-engine, two-seater style car that is best suited to track driving, which could come especially handy if the officers driving it needed to navigate sharp corners and sudden turns. The SLS AMG retails for over a quarter of a million dollars.
4. Bentley Continental GT
Clocking in at $215,000, the Bentley Continental GT features a grand tourer make and further adds another luxury brand name to the Dubai Police’s car fleet. It’s really saying something when cruising around in a Bentley isn’t considered too thrilling to an officer knowing that there are Lamborghinis and Aston Martins as options instead. The Continental GT is still a gorgeous vehicle that features a twin turbo engine and 20 inch wheels. Its interior comes decked out in the police’s usual red leather interior – adding to its already great looks.
3. McLaren MP4-12C
By the time the Dubai police added the McLaren MP4-12C to their fleet of cars, it had become abundantly clear that they had far more money than they knew what to do with. This model is a supercar designed by McLaren Automotive, which isn’t as well known as the bigger names on this list but is just as, if not more well made and luxurious. Several Formula-1 technologies were used to create this vehicle, including break steering and a seven speed power shift stick. The force acquired this bad boy for a cool half a million dollars.
2. Lamborghini Aventador
The Lamborghini Aventador is the stuff car fans dream of. If you’ve ever played auto video games, chances are you’ve selected this model as your favorite car to drive. The Aventador is a two-door roadster sportscar that looks like a sculpted, architectural work of art and retails for about half a million dollars. Only about 4,000 units have been produced in the world due to the high quality molds used to make its carbon-fibre body being hyper sensitive. Good luck trying to outrun this car at its maximum speed of 217 miles per hour if you get on the wrong side of a Dubai police officer.
1. Bugatti Veyron
The Bugatti Veyron is a mid-engine sportscar designed by the Volkswagen group – which doesn’t sound excessively high-class until you get a look at this beauty of a car. It was named as the automobile of the decade by BBC and can reach staggering speeds of 267 miles per hour. Although it was discontinued in late 2014, the Dubai police snapped up a Veyron while they could to take advantage of its amazing quad-turbocharged engine – that’s equal to two V8 engines strapped together. The gorgeous model tops off our roundup of the Dubai police force’s supercars and retails at a cool $2.5 million.
