Hollywood’s 15 Cheapest Divorce Settlements: Where Are They Now?

Divorce is a crappy thing, and the world has had its fair share of celebrity divorces in years past. Do you remember Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, and Reba McEntire and Narvel Blackstock? These are just a few of the splits that we have witnessed, not to mention the dating relationships that we were so excited to see progress into marriage. Divorce is messy no matter who is involved, yet there are some people who have really amicable splits in which everything goes smoothly. So here is our list of 15 of Hollywood’s Cheapest Divorce Settlements: Where Are They Now?

Celebs may have to deal with child custody, spousal and child support, and a split of assets, among other things. And then couples can get petty and argue over stupid things. It seemed that the summer of 2015 was a hot time for couples to call it quits; we saw a huge jump in celebrity breakups and divorces, including Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton and even Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog! Is there any hope left for humanity? Or a better question might be, is it possible to find lasting love in Hollywood?

Sure it is! Just take a look at the successful marriages of Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, and Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. It is possible, people, so don’t give up hope. We are going to switch gears though and focus on celebrity divorces, their settlements, and where these celebs are now.

15. Anna Faris & Benjamin Indra – $900,000

Nowadays we just think of Anna Faris as one half of the perfect celebrity married couple: Anna Faris and Chris Pratt. Seriously, what could be better than those two celebs together forever? Anyway, before Chris came into the picture, Anna was married to actor Ben Indra for three short years. The couple ultimately split up with a finalized divorce settlement for $900,000, making this the most expensive celebrity divorce settlement on our list.

Anna’s main reason for the split? Success. Apparently she was becoming too successful for Ben, whose acting career was several notches lower than Anna’s. (Really though, have you even heard of Ben Indra?) Now Anna is nearing the 40-year mark and she is still as sexy as ever, all while enjoying time with her hottie hubby and adorable son. As for Ben, his acting career has died out and his last big break was in 2002 in the TV show Raising Dad.

14. Kate Walsh & Alex Young – $627,000

You probably know of Kate Walsh from her famous roles in Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. The actress married Alex Young, an executive from 20th Century Fox, in 2007. After just one year of marriage, Young filed for a divorce, then Walsh counter-filed for divorce and everything was  finally over in early 2010. The reason for the divorce was cited by Young as “irreconcilable differences,” but both Young and Walsh filed for divorce amicably. The final cost of the divorce settlement was a hefty one for our list: $627,000.

Nowadays, Walsh continues to act (she will be in the upcoming film Felt) and she is also active in the political and social justice arena. As for Young, his last big career project was 2015’s Hitman: Agent 47. Walsh had previously stated that she regretted not having kids earlier, but now she is probably glad that she didn’t introduce children into the mixed-up world of celebrity divorce.

13. Zsa Zsa Gabor & Conrad Hilton – $275,000

The Austrian-Hungarian beauty Zsa Zsa Gabor was married to Conrad Hilton (of the Hilton hotels) from 1942 to 1947. Yes, we’re going way back here, but this is one celebrity divorce that was really inexpensive compared to others, especially considering that Zsa Zsa was part of the social elite. Zsa Zsa was actually married a total of nine times, and she is still married to Frederic Prinz von Anhalt (they married in 1986.) Zsa Zsa is now 99 years old and she has gone through some tough health problems. Her right leg was amputated due to infection and earlier this year she was hospitalized for a feeding tube-induced lung infection. It’s been some 20 years since her last TV or film project, and Frederic is now a 73-year-old man living the high life. He had an affair with Anna Nicole Smith and he was robbed in 2007. Never a dull moment for these two.

12. Torrei Hart & Kevin Hart – $175,000

Actor Kevin Hart and his ex-wife Torrei have a pretty interesting thing going on. They split up in 2010, but they still seem to be on really good terms with each other. In fact, last year the actor bought Torrei a brand-new car for her birthday. There definitely doesn’t seem to be any bad blood between these two! The Philadelphia native filed for divorce from Torrei, citing “irreconcilable differences” and he received joint custody of their children, Heaven and Hendrix. The final cost of the divorce settlement as $275,000, relatively cheap compared to other celebrity splits. Kevin then got engaged to Eniko Parrish, a model, and the two are set to get married on August 8, 2016. Kevin continues to act in TV and movies (you can catch him in 2017’s Captain Underpants movie) and Torrei is laying low (she is not planning to attend Kevin and Eniko’s wedding).

11. Katie Holmes & Tom Cruise – $0

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise always had a really weird thing going on. Katie was said to have passed an “audition” in order to become Tom’s wife, and the couple has been linked to the Church of Scientology for years now. When the couple filed for divorce, rumors swirled that Katie was trying to avoid becoming another Nicole Kidman to Tom Cruise. (Tom was married to Nicole from 1990 to 2001; his previous marriage was to Mimi Rogers from 1987 to 1990. Katie was his third wife from 2006 to 2012.)

Katie was granted custody of her daughter Suri Cruise, and the divorce settlement was decided upon privately as Katie and Tom split amicably. After the divorce, Katie ran away from the Church of Scientology as fast as she could and returned to her Catholic roots. Tom is regularly in the tabloids for his Scientology beliefs and Katie continues to raise the lovely 10-year-old Suri.

10. Stephanie March & Bobby Flay, $0

Stephanie March took her husband Bobby Flay to court right before Thanksgiving in 2015, claiming that Bobby falsified moving expenses and videos from the Food Network. The settlement for divorce was processed back in July of 2015, but in November Stephanie pushed back with a demand for $105,000. That amount came from her appearances in Bobby’s show Throwdown with Bobby Flay. She said that she should be paid for her appearances in the show. Many people scoffed at her demands, which Bobby didn’t even have control over. He did, however, cheat on Stephanie with a random bar girl. According to reports, Bobby was giving Stephanie $5,000 a month from a prenup agreement because he really didn’t feel like going to divorce court. Stephanie continued to fight, but her demands were unmet. Too bad for her. Bobby continues to be a Food Network star while Stephanie is a women’s rights advocate.

9. Courteney Cox & David Arquette – $0

Courteney Cox and David Arquette were like a power couple, looking cute and running a business together. But then they divorced and went on to form other serious romantic relationships. But let’s back up a bit. Cox and Arquette were married in 1999 and separated in 2010. They have a daughter, Coco Riley together, as well as their business, Coquette Productions. They also continued to be very good friends, even after the divorce was finalized, and lots of people speculated that the two made much better friends than they did husband and wife. Even the process of the divorce settlement was easy-peasy, and there was really no argument about it. Courteney went on to marry Johnny McDaid of Snow Patrol in 2014, while David has been married to Christina McLarty of Entertainment Tonight since 2015. David checked into rehab in 2011, but has since recovered. Courteney continues to act.

8. Kaley Cuoco & Ryan Sweeting – $165,000

After just 21 months of marriage, actress Kaley Cuoco and professional tennis player Ryan Sweeting filed for divorce. According to reports, it was Kaley who filed for the divorce, and she seemingly no longer wanted anything else to do with Ryan. There were apparent lifestyle differences between the couple, and Kaley legally cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce. Kaley and Ryan had an established prenup set up, which was put into place once the divorce was filed. The couple had a court date to divide their assets, with the settlement totaling to $165,000. After the split, Kaley surrounded herself with friends and family and appeared to be living it up as a single lady. She is still the face of The Big Bang Theory. Ryan retired from professional tennis in 2015 and he appears to be living the quiet life in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Neither Kaley nor Ryan appear to be in serious relationships.

7. Katy Perry & Russell Brand – $0

Remember back in 2010 when Katy Perry was married to Russell Brand? That marriage only lasted for a short period of time, and their divorce was finalized in 2012. Allegedly, Katy’s career was skyrocketing to great heights which was leaving a strain between her and Russell. Plus, Russell wanted to have children and Katy just wasn’t ready for all that. On the other hand, Russell slammed Katy in interviews and said that all she ever wanted to do was spend lavish and live the high life. Regardless, the couple was seriously having a bad time together, so 14 months after they said “I do,” they filed for divorce.

Apparently, Russell just sent Katy a text that they were divorcing and that was that. Of course, they had to go to court, but the settlement was for $0. Katy recently sang at the Democratic National Convention and she recorded a song for the 2016 Olympics in Rio. Russell continues with his antics, dating random chicks, and working on his YouTube series.

6. Danica Patrick & Paul Hospenthal – $0

After a marriage that lasted for seven years, racecar driver Danica Patrick and her hubby, physical therapist Paul Hospenthal, decided to call it quits. No more free back massages for Danica, we guess! On April 17, 2013, Danica and Paul’s divorce was finalized, as the relationship between the couple was “irretrievably broken,” and the split was amicable.

Neither Danica nor Paul sought alimony, which made things easier, although a court date was set to divide their assets among themselves. Danica seemed to get over it quite quickly though (she is a NASCAR driver, after all!) She was soon in a romantic relationship with a rookie racecar driver, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. The 25-year-old was a dramatic departure from Danica’s ex-husband, who was 16 years older than her. That may explain in part why the marriage was falling apart. 51-year-old Paul is now taking it easy and is maintaining a low profile.

5. LisaRaye McCoy & Michael Misick – $0

LisaRaye McCoy was an actress in Single Ladies, and she was also the wife of Michael Misick, former Premier of Turks and Caicos Islands. According to LisaRaye, the relationship evolved so quickly that she never even got the chance to assess her feelings for Michael. Before she knew it, she was married to him in 2006. By 2008, there was a divorce case for the couple, and the financial settlement was $0. Then in 2009, Michael got himself into some serious trouble when he was cited for corruption from selling public spaces in Turks and Caicos to fuel his own bank account. That move caused him to run away to Brazil, where he was arrested and had to stand trial. Ouch. As for LisaRaye, she finished up with Singles Ladies in 2014, and also spent time managing her own jeans clothing line. Now her career is very much under the radar, but we would rather have that than all of the madness that ensued before.

4. Kim Kardashian & Kris Humphries – $0

When it comes to the Kardashian family, there is no doubt that drama is involved in everything they do. In the case of Kim K’s relationship with Kris Humphries, it seemed that everyone in the family had something to say about it. Kris Jenner apparently hated Kris, and no one in the Kardashian-Jenner clan really treated him with respect. Khloe Kardashian even said that she had warned Kim against marrying Kris. Oh well, it happened, and it was a 72-day marriage in 2011. Citing “irreconcilable differences,” the two divorced and the whole fiasco was ridiculed for being a publicity stunt on Kim’s part. Kris sought an annulment, and the trial was delayed for nearly two years. Kris also wanted $7 million from Kim, but he walked away with zilch. Nowadays, Kris seems to be happy playing with the Atlanta Hawks and Kim is the mother of two adorable babes with Kanye West.

3. Zooey Deschanel & Ben Gibbard – $0

Death Cab For Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard was married to quirky actress Zooey Deschanel for two years before the couple divorced. The split was a tragic end to many fans of Ben and Zooey, but according to the couple, things are A-OK. Ben and Zooey split “amicably,” so there is no ill will or bad blood between them. That’s a relief. On December 12, 2012, the divorce was finalized and neither Ben nor Zooey asked the other for spousal support, making the case nice and simple. After all, the two of them have another of their own personal assets, don’t they? Now Zooey is branching out as a director on her hit show New Girl, and Ben is still doing his thing with Death Cab For Cutie. Unfortunately, they had an awkward moment at a recent South Carolina show in which Ben stormed off the stage due to equipment failure and a fight in the crowd.

2. Nigella Lawson & Charles Saatchi – $0

Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson (The Domestic Goddess) was with her husband Charles Saatchi for a decade before the two decided to file for a divorce. The couple lived a lavish lifestyle and even had a 6-floor mansion worth millions of dollars. Even so, Charles was significantly older than Nigella, which must have put a decent amount of strain on the relationship. On top of that, Nigella was dealing with fraudulent employers in her company, and Charles was photographed with his hands clutched around Nigella’s throat during an argument. And get this: after less than a 2-minute long court hearing, a judge granted the couple a decree nisi and a private financial settlement was achieved in which Nigella and Charles wouldn’t slam any financial claims on each other. Now Nigella stars on MasterChef Australia and Charles continues to do his art collecting while maintaining a low profile. Nigella is the real star here anyway.

1. Jennie Garth & Peter Facinelli – $0

Jennie Garth and Peter Facinelli were married from 2001 to 2013. Most people recognize Jennie from her stint on Beverly Hills 90210, but she also had a reality TV show based on her life a few years back. Ironically, Jennie and Peter met while on the set of An Unfinished Affair. They began dating and were married 6 years later (this was the second marriage for Jennie). Together, she and Peter had three kids: Luca Bella, Lola Ray, and Fiona Eve. In 2012, Peter filed for a divorce from Jennie and the settlement was finalized a year later. The split was very civil, and ultimately resulted in a $0 settlement for both parties. Jennie and Garth have since started dating again, but they have a soft spot for each other. After all, they were together for over a decade and have children together. Now it’s just a different kind of love.
