Coachella has become almost as well known for the parties surrounding the festival as it has for the talent at the festival. In fact, some people skip paying the hefty ticket fee and just trek out to the desert to hit the parties. Not surprisingly, there was no shortage of parties during the first weekend of Coachella this year.
The sweltering desert heat had a lot to do with the theme of most parties – pool parties. But, not all bashes were held poolside. One of the most popular parties at Coachella, Neon Carnival, was (surprise!) a carnival theme. No matter what the theme of the bash was, however, if it didn’t have a VIP studded guest list, it wasn’t much buzzed about. The most talked about shindigs at Coachella boasted impressive guests lists. Leonardo DiCaprio, Katy Perry, and Jared Leto were just a few of the celebrities who made appearances at different parties over the weekend.
The parties did not disappoint either. Ferris wheel rides, massage rooms, pop-up shops, touch-up stations, boat rides, and Stingray test drives, oh my. Every party had something unique to offer. Some bashes even offered guests a ride home. The hosts of the most popular Coachella parties thought of everything… well, almost. No one offered attendees a hangover cure.
8. Neon Carnival
Presented by NYLON, Olay Fresh Effects, and GUESS, Neon Carnival was THE bash of the weekend. Jared Leto and his much talked about zebra pants made an appearance at Neon Carnival, and you know a party is cool when Jared Leto shows up.
Held inside an airplane hanger and retrofitted to look like a vintage carnival, Neon Carnival kept the vibe of the festival going for partygoers all night. Inside the hanger, DJ POLITIK, DJ Ruckus, and guest DJ, Zoe Kravitz, spun tunes for VIPs like Kellan Lutz, Danny Masterson, Jamie Chung, and Leonardo DiCaprio. Outside, guests could take their chances on the Zipper ride, hop on a bumper car or take in the scene of the shindig on the neon lit Ferris wheel.
7. Lacoste Pool Party
Lacoste’s pool party, held at a private estate within walking distance of Coachella’s Empire Polo Field, has become one of the more popular pool parties for celebrities and festivalgoers. The two-day soiree provided lucky invitees and celebs – including Katy Perry, Joe Jonas, Lea Michele, and Emma Roberts – a place to relax and unwind from the craziness of Coachella.
If you weren’t bedazzling your own shoes at a DIY shoe station, you could take a dip in the pool, get a temporary Lacoste tattoo, play air tennis, get a makeup touch-up, shop in the Lacoste pop-up shop or have your picture taken in a bounce house. One thing is for sure; you could not leave the party without taking a selfie next to one of the many Lacoste crocodiles lined up on the driveway.
6. H&M Loves Music Party
At this year’s H&M Loves Music Party, Katy Perry and Robert Pattinson hugged, the fire department showed up, and designer Alexander Wang announced his collaboration with the Swedish design house. Held at the Indio Performing Arts Center on Saturday (April 12, 2014), the party boasted more than 700 guests and performances by Major Lazer, Iggy Azalea, and Just Blaze. Kate Bosworth, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Florence Welch, and Lorde were just a few of the celebs that stopped by the H&M Loves Music party.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the inside of the party closely resembled Coachella’s neon lights, but outside, partygoers could catch their breath on one of the many retro lounge chairs and picnic tables provided. A 1950’s fridge stocked with Twinkies and Oreos outside enhanced the retro block party vibe.
5. McDonald’s & Stingray Desert Pool Party
What do you get when two American institutions, McDonald’s and Corvette, host a party? Lots of hamburgers, a chance to test-drive a 2014 Stingray, and of course, a bevy of celebrities.
McDonald’s and Corvette united together in the desert to celebrate the launch of McDonald’s new Bacon Clubhouse burger and Corvette’s 2014 Stingray. The poolside bash, held at the Bootsy Bellows Estate in Palm Springs, was filled with stars looking to test drive a Corvette or looking to sink their teeth into a Bacon Clubhouse burger. DiCaprio was seen chowing down on a burger and fries, and later, took a spin in one of several Stingray’s on hand for the event.
Leo wasn’t the only one who got a chance to drive a new Corvette, Juicy J, who performed at the event, showed up in a Stingray filled with Barney’s New York bags. Some of the other celebs spotted at the event included Kendall Jenner and Vanessa Hudgens.
4. Guess Hotel Party
The Guess Hotel bash, a two-day poolside party held at the Viceroy, gave guests the chance to take a dip in a pool filled with inflatable toys and listen to an impressive list of performers, such as Calvin Harris, Pharrell Williams and Ellie Goulding.
3. Soho Desert House Pop-Up
One of the most exclusive private members’ clubs in the world – Soho House – set up shop in the desert (for a bit of time, at least). Soho House Desert was a luxurious retreat for those looking to relax and unwind. A bevy of VIPs, including Nina Dobrev, and Alunageorge, made their way to the party.
A villa called La Quinta was the “secret” site of the bash and it boasted a pristine pool, a volleyball court, and a lake with a swan shaped boat. Partygoers could also take advantage of a relaxation room and several private massage rooms. DJs Mia Moretti and Tony Adams were on hand spinning the latest tunes for the guests of the house.
2. Harper’s Bazaar Coachella Lunch
The Gene Autry pool at the hip Parker Palm Springs was the site of the Harper’s Bazaar picnic lunch. The chic event, hosted by dancing darling Julianne Hough, featured a Shop BAZAAR pop up shop, an Urban Decay touch up station, and a poolside photo booth. The fashion and music industry’s elite mingled politely at the Harper’s Bazaar bash. Daisy Lowe, Anita Frederickson, Jesse Metcalfe, Mia Moretti, Louise Roe, Keisha, and blogger Jenny Wu were among the attendees sipping grapefruit spritzers under the palms.
1. The Music Lounge at the Ingleside Inn
It Girl, DJ Mia Moretti, was one just one of the hosts at the three day long party, which was held at one of Palm Springs oldest establishments, the Ingleside Inn. (Nas and Jermaine Dupri also hosted The Music Lounge party.)
Katy Perry, who has clearly been party-hopping, showed up to support Moretti and was seen sipping cocktails next to the DJ booth. Some of the other celebrities seen roaming the grounds of the Inn during the three-day event included Jennie Garth, stylist Johnny Wujek, Chloe Norgaard, Jamie Chung, Eliza Taylor, DJ Todd Edwards, and Lindsey Morgan.
