It seems that Hollywood is flooded with young stars who are becoming more and more popular for a variety of reasons. Some are singers, some dance and some have made their debuts on TV and movie screens.
Unlike many stars who grew up in the business, some of these young celebrities don’t have a “rags to riches” story to tell. A number of teen and young adult stars grew up wealthy, and some have been living near Hollywood all their lives. However, these celebrities want to make a name for themselves legitimately. Gone are the days when it’s good enough to just be known as a “so-and-so’s entitled son or daughter.” Even wealthy people have to prove to Hollywood—and the general public—that they deserve attention.
Part of the advantage that comes with being a celebrity is having a luxurious home to live in, and there are lots of celebs with elaborate homes that they love to show off. When you’ve lived a privileged life since birth, it’s probably easy to find prime real estate and decorate in a way that is sure to impress guests. These skills probably really come in handy when it comes to impressing Hollywood execs and job-related networking. Want to know which celebrity kids were born rich? Here are 12 young stars who grew up in mansions.
12. Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus has a southern accent that reminds everyone she’s from Tennessee and her dad’s a country music singer. But Cyrus also spent a significant portion of her childhood in Los Angeles. She is still well-known for her role as teen singing sensation in the Disney show Hannah Montana. During Miley’s time as the star of the family (she co-starred on the show with her dad), the Cyrus family lived in a home that was worth around $6 million. The Mediterranean-style home was on more than an acre of land and had six bedrooms and seven bathrooms. Miley has since moved out, but reportedly doesn’t live far from her family home. Even though she’s showing her wild side these days, Miley still has lots of love for her family, and great design sense when it comes to selecting a home.
Cassie Ventura came on the entertainment scene as a singer. Some thought her voice and style were great; others weren’t so convinced. However, there’s no denying that Cassie is stunning and has a promising acting career ahead of her. She’s been in several music videos, and if you don’t recognize her for her music, you’ve likely seen her in a Sean John or Ciroc ad (ah, the perks of being Diddy’s girlfriend). Cassie grew up in Connecticut, and apparently went to an expensive private prep school, which indicates that she was pretty well off. The school costs around $26,000 a year, so Cassie has been living in luxury for quite some time. Her modeling, acting and singing career are likely just to help her maintain a high-class lifestyle while doing the things she loves.
10. Darren Criss
Singer and actor Darren Criss is no stranger to money. The former Glee star’s father is a banker, and also served on the board of directors for the San Francisco Opera. You have to make a pretty hefty donation to the Opera in order to get a seat this prestigious, which means the Criss’ family is pretty affluent. Not only has Criss had the opportunity to live in mansions, but he also spent some time in Hawaii. His father moved the family there so that he could start and serve as chairman and CEO of EastWest Bank. Those are some pretty major money moves.
9. Mike Posner
Singer Mike Posner likes to boast that he’s from Detroit, hoping that this will give people the impression that he comes from humble beginnings. However, Posner actually grew up in Southfield, which is a wealthy suburb of Detroit. The annual income for a family of four in Southfield is about $115,000 per year, which leads us to believe that Posner grew up in a mansion. Well, a small mansion, anyway. His dad was a lawyer, and Posner was also a student at Duke University. Not only does this show how intelligent he is, it’s another sign that Mike’s family is wealthy, since Duke isn’t exactly one of the most affordable colleges. Tuition is almost $60,000 a year!
8. Ariana Grande
Sure, Ariana Grande has been making pretty good money as an actress and singer, but chances are she was simply learning how to be a good businesswoman from her dad. Grande, who starred in the Nickelodeon shows Victorious and Sam & Cat, and has a successful singing career, is the heir to her father Edward Butera’s company, Ibi Designs, Inc. The company is based in Boca Raton, and has clients like Eddie Murphy and FAO Schwarz. Usually, Ariana states that she gets her work ethic from her mother, Joan, but we’re guessing she could give a little of that credit to her dad as well.
7. Jaden and Willow Smith
It’s pretty safe to say that siblings Jaden and Willow Smith have always lived in mansions. After all, their parents are Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith, talented actors and musicians. The Smiths live in the Calabasas neighborhood of Los Angeles, which is probably how Jaden and Kylie Jenner got to know each other back in the day. The Smith home is around 25,000 square feet and has a lake gazebo. Like we said, Willow and Jaden, who are both musicians and models (Jaden is also an actor), have been living in the lap of luxury since they were born. Since the Smith kids have both gotten major fashion endorsement deals recently (Willow is the new face of Karl Lagerfeld; Jaden is the face of Louis Vuitton), they’ll be living in upscale digs for a little longer.
6. Allison Williams
Allison Williams is most well-known for her role on the hit show, Girls. Williams has also appeared in College Musical the Movie and Peter Pan Live! And, she’s the daughter of Brian Williams, the former anchorman for NBC Nightly News. Brian Williams has been in the business for quite some time, and has been making quite a handsome salary for decades. Allison, however, wanted to make a name for herself in the entertainment world. If she keeps choosing smart roles and continues to perfect her craft, she could have a real future as an actress. Allison is also a musician and comedian, so her many talents can hopefully keep her busy in Hollywood.
5. Adam Levine
The Maroon 5 frontman may be on Proactiv commercials complaining about his acne and showing the world that he used to be chubbier, but don’t feel too sorry for him. Levine grew up in the Los Angeles area, and is Fred Levine’s son. The elder Levine is the founder of the M. Fredric clothing line. That may have something to do with why Adam is so naturally fashionable and has a thing for models. Levine, who is also a businessman and actor, married Victoria’s Secret model Behati Prinsloo recently, and is also a judge on the hit talent competition show The Voice.
4. Ed Sheeran
When Ed Sheeran sings, he bares his soul and leads you to believe that he was just a poor boy in London with a dream. That, however, is not the case. No one knows exactly how much money Ed Sheeran’s family makes, but it’s pretty safe to say that his childhood in Framlingham wasn’t a deprived one. Both of Sheeran’s parents are artists. His mother, Imogen, is a jewelry maker and former publicist, and his father is a lecturer and art curator. Mr. and Mrs. Sheeran also ran Sheeran Lock for 20 years, an independent art constituency. Looks like the Sheerans were both well off and highly regarded in the community.
3. Jordin Sparks
Jordin Sparks is known as the youngest individual to win American Idol. She was the champion of season 6, and has been making beautiful music ever since. Unfortunately, she’s also been in the news for her breakups with musicians Jason Derulo and Sage the Gemini, respectively. Jordin is also the daughter of Phillippi Sparks, a former NFL player, so she’s never been hurting for money. Her dad played for the Dallas Cowboys and N.Y. Giants, and her mother is a businesswoman in her own right, so living in mansions was a normal part of her childhood. Jordin didn’t even have to use her dad’s fame to get in the business, which further proves just how talented she is.
2. Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift is known for writing breakup songs about guys she hasn’t dated long enough to be in love with. She’s also known for recruiting girls to be a part of her friendship “squad.” Swift comes across at the girl next door, which may be realistic, depending on the type of neighborhood you grew up in. Before getting involved in Taylor’s career, her mom was a marketing executive. Taylor’s dad is a financial adviser. She grew up in Pennsylvania, and paints herself as an underdog, but she was actually pretty privileged growing up. Perhaps her family mansion wasn’t Kardashian-sized, but it was probably still pretty nice.
1. Kendall and Kylie Jenner
Kendall and Kylie Jenner are the daughters of Bruce Jenner (now Caitlin). Jenner won the 1976 Olympic decathalon and was a Wheaties spokesperson for quite some time. That’s a big deal. Then, he went on to marry Kris Jenner, and made his living starring in reality shows. Kendall and Kylie have pretty much always been rich, and you can see their large Calabasas home each week on the E! reality series Keeping Up With The Kardashians. The sisters also have their own “careers” to make sure they keep the Kardashian cash rolling in. Kylie has a line of lip colors, and often models in brother-in-law Kanye West’s shows. Kendall is a successful model, strutting the runways for Chanel and appearing in Estee Lauder ads.
