Being a celebrity comes with its share of pretty sweet perks. After all, part of the reason that famous people are constantly in the news is because they’re often making some lavish purchase. Whether it’s a new mansion, an expensive car or a yacht used for vacation purposes, the public wants to know about it. It’s also no secret that celebrities like to travel in style, which is why several celebs have their own private jets. Some of these aircrafts have been purchased with their own money, and others have been given to the celebrities as gifts (by other rich people, of course).
When you have a private jet, taking a family vacation is likely a lot more fun. It can also be more exciting to go on a romantic date, or simply to meet up with friends for the day. Celebrities probably also get a kick out of the fact that their relatives and associates can’t help but be impressed when they see a private jet landing. Having your own jet makes traveling a lot more comfortable as well. Why deal with cramped airplane seats and screaming babies when you don’t have to? Here are 10 celebrities who own their own jets.
10. Sergey Brin and Larry Page
Brin and Page own the Google One, also known as the Google Jet. The jet is worth $25 million, and is just another indication of how well the company is doing. The plane has even acquired landing rights for two years at the prestigious Moffet Field, the runway that is owned and operated by NASA. Moffet Field was never opened to private planes until the Google Jet came along. That’s quite an honor. Of course, the Google plane looks a lot like what you’ll find when you type the word “Google” into your search engine. The bright green, yellow, red and blue colors that make up the Google logo are painted on the side of the plane, and each of the windows on the jet is fashioned to look like the letter O.
9. Bill Gates
Bill Gates, who is one of the masterminds behind Microsoft, has a Bombardier Global Express that is worth $40 million. Of course, his private jet also includes a number of tech-savvy perks. The plane has the ability to reach 5,000 Nm without stopping, and can reach a speed of Mach 1 easily. There’s also a Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics suite in the jet. This tool enhances the performance of the aircraft, and decreases the chances that the navigation system will stop functioning at its best. When you’re a busy man with lots of places to go, this feature definitely comes in handy.
8. Mark Cuban
Mark Cuban is known for his savvy investing skills, and for owning the Dallas Mavericks team. He has a Boeing 767-277 that is worth $144.1 million, which is impressive to say the least. Once the aircraft completed a transatlantic trip, Cuban decided that he wanted to buy the plane. The jet is powered by General Electric and Pratt & Whitney engines, which indicates that his passengers who are familiar with planes likely feel pretty safe in the aircraft. Once Mark Cuban bought the plane, he had the seats re-fitted in order to accommodate some of the tallest players on his team.
7. Elvis Presley
Elvis Presley had an impressive private jet that he named Lisa Marie, after his daughter. The plane had a bedroom and bathroom. The bathroom included a tub made of gold, as well as gold faucets. For someone who was on the road a lot, living as comfortably as possible while away from home was important. The Lisa Marie seats 28 people, and there are several sleeping quarters on the plane in addition to the bedroom. Presley had a pretty advanced aircraft for his day, since the jet included a conference room, a video system that is connected to four televisions and 52 speakers. This likely served as the perfect place for Presley to rehearse on the way to his concerts.
6. Donald Trump
Donald Trump hasn’t been holding his tongue these days, and has made some pretty offensive comments during his presidential campaigning. As a result, he may not have as many friends who want to ride on his 23-passenger Boeing 727-23. Then again, Mark Cuban may want to travel with Donald Trump, since Cuban did state that Trump is “the best thing to happen to politics in a long, long time.” Interesting.
Trump’s aircraft is worth $100 million, and Trump actually purchased the used aircraft from Paul Allen, who is the co-founder of Microsoft. Of course, Trump made some renovations to the jet, including painting his name on the side of the jet, in 23-carat gold, covering the seats with leather and adding personal TVs to the aircraft.
5. Tom Cruise
Tom Cruise has starred in films like Mission Impossible and Top Gun, so he’s probably very familiar with how to look great while flying a plane (or hanging from the side of the aircraft while an audience gasps in suspense). When Tom Cruise started his career at 19 in the movie Endless Love, he likely didn’t imagine he’d be able to live in such luxury. Cruise owns a Gulfstream IV that is worth $36 million. The jet has room for 19 passengers, and can get as high as 45,000 feet in the air. Two Rolls Royce Tay 611-8 engines power the plane, and the aircraft can get to a speed of Mach 0.80.
Rapper and businessman Jay-Z got a private jet as a gift from his wife Beyonce. We’re guessing this is what you get for the man who has everything. Jay-Z’s Bombardier Challenger 850 Learjet is worth $40 million, and is pretty much a small house in the sky. The jet has a living room complete with leather furniture, a bedroom, a kitchen and two bathrooms. Since Jay-Z and Beyonce are often traveling the world for concert tours, important meetings and celebrity appearances, you have to admit that such a cushy jet is kind of practical, especially when they’ve got their young daughter Blue Ivy in tow.
3. Jim Carrey
Funny guy Jim Carrey has certainly come a long way since he was cast in the 1990s variety show, In Living Color. His continued work in Hollywood in films like Dumb and Dumber, Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty and Ace Ventura Pet Detective, has certainly paid off. He now owns a Gulfstream V. This plane is one of the safest private jets in the world, and is also known for its high performance. Carrey can enjoy a trip on his jet with 15 of his closest friends, and the group is likely to get to their destination in record time. The Gulfstream V travels almost as quickly as the speed of sound.
2. John Travolta
The veteran actor is the proud owner of a Boeing 707-138. The aircraft must be worth quite a lot, since information on the price is not easily disclosed. The jet is parked at his Florida home, and if he and his family want to take a trip to Orlando, their destination is just 10 minutes away once they get in the aircraft. Travolta also owns four other planes, and is an honorary pilot for Qantas, an Australian aircraft company. The 60-year-old actor has flown over 35,000 miles on his own, so it’s likely that his family and friends are comfortable flying with him.
1. Oprah Winfrey
Of course, the undisputed queen of media and owner of the OWN Network has a private aircraft. It’s obvious that her long stint on The Oprah Winfrey Show paid off in more ways than one. Winfrey’s customized jet was designed by Bombardier Aerospace and seats 10 passengers. The seats are made from the finest leather, and there are even designer fixtures in the bathroom to make the ride in the jet especially luxurious. Oprah Winfrey’s jet can attain an altitude of 51,000 feet, and is powered by twin Rolls Royce engines. The aircraft is worth $42 million, and is certainly not a bad way to travel to meetings and vacations.
