The 10 Best Beaches in the World

Oh, the beach! Who would not want to stay there forever? You will wake up everyday to the sound of the waves crashing the sand, nice and warm breeze swaying the coconut or palm leaves, with the tropical sun shining amidst clear skies all day long.

But what constitutes a great beach? We may all have different priorities. For instance, teenage kids would want a beach where there are a lot of sunbathers lying around under the sun. Parents with kids would prefer a beach located in front of a sea that is not so deep and with waves that are not too strong. Some may want places where there are a lot of activities available, like jet skiing, windsurfing, kayaking, etc.  Proximity to snorkeling and diving sites may also help. Still others would simply prefer a quiet beach where you can just lay around the whole day far away from all the worries in the world.

But some beaches are just more amazing than others. They have the widest beaches, the whitest and most powdery sand, or they may provide the greatest view. The combination of sun, sea and sand in these places is simply heads and shoulders above the rest. Here are the top ten beaches in the world.

1. Providenciales, Turks and Caicos

In Providenciales, you will surely find a spot that you can call your own. The beach is quiet and far from the maddening crowd, making it an ideal getaway for the whole family. Special mention must be made of Taylor Bay and Grace Bay. You can also explore underwater sea life at the island’s ample barrier reef, like Smith’s Reef. Try the ocean floor walk for a unique and different experience.  Honeymooners will also find the relaxed and intimate vibe of the place very romantic.

2. Palm Beach and Eagle Beach, Aruba

Aruba can offer you two different beach vacations in one. The island is a mere 20 miles in length, so you can easily transfer from one end to the other. If you are feeling particularly active for the day, head out to Eagle Beach. The place has got nice white sand and is where water sports enthusiasts converge. Feeling a bit lazy? Then go to the western part of the island where Palm Beach is. It offers ideal swimming conditions with its soft and powder-like sand. Dive sites are also not that far from the island.

3. Tulum, Mexico

Tulum is more than a beach, though the Yucatan area does offer a great sunbathing spot. What is great about Tulum, however, are the ancient ruins that can be seen from the beach area. You can then rest and relax with a massage or spa treatment done in the traditional Mayan way.

4. Negril, Jamaica

The Seven Mile Beach. Do we even need to say more? If you won’t be able to find your own spot here, then chances are that you will not be able to find one anywhere in the world.  For the more daring, there are spots for nude sunbathing.

5. Saint Pete Beach, Florida

Head to Saint Pete Beach and you will find out why they call Florida The Sunshine State. The white sand and the dolphins playing around just off the shore will make your stay here unforgettable. Eight major barrier islands make the water perfect for swimming.

6. Boracay, Philippines

This is one of the best beach destinations in the world, with its powdery, white sand and wide beaches. While measuring only 4.5 miles in length, there are beautiful beaches everywhere. There are secluded and exclusive spots open only to visitors of the resort fronting the beach, there are public areas where the sand is just as soft and where the view of the sunset is postcard pretty, and there are unique spots where white shells abound.

7. Cancun, Mexico

Known as the preferred destination of college kids on spring break, Cancun is the prime coastal destination of the country. It has powdery beaches and the perfect warm climate. While a lot of resorts cater to the young crowd, there are also places where a family can stay peacefully. The area is also near the ancient ruins of Tulum and Chichen Itza.

8. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Have you ever seen one of those beach pictures in travel brochures and websites? Head to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and you will surely end up with your own photo of those amazing images. This is a popular getaway for tourists, and it is easy to know why.

9. Miami Beach, Florida

This place has got it all. You can sunbathe by lying on its soft sand, or swim in the clear ocean water. Water sport activities abound in the area, with jet skiing and surfing lessons available all around. And if that is not enough, you can just engage in people watching, as South Beach is a favorite haunting ground of celebrities and models. Be sure to pack your telephoto lens when you head out to this beach. You may just want to become a paparazzi even for one day.

10. Varadero, Cuba

Forget about the cold relationship between Cuba and the United States. Ditch politics for a moment and set aside any hostilities that may be preventing tourists from visiting this amazing beach. If politicians will just try it out, Varadero can probably warm any cold relationship that they may have. It is the top beach destination of Cuba, and it is situated on a peninsula measuring 13 miles in length. The soft and powdery sands will lead you to the waters coming from the Kawama Channel. The resorts and hotels lined up along the shore have actually been around since the 1920s, when gangsters and celebrities would frequent the place for some rest and recreation.
