Everyone loves a good old Hollywood conspiracy theory. Tabloids and TMZ probably wouldn’t be half as popular without them. It is impressive to think how much work goes into keeping a secret from the entire world when there are paparazzi and, these days, the entire general public with a Smartphone camera, lurking everywhere. Some celebrities prefer to keep their private life private, by not talking about personal relationships in interviews, protecting their kids from the paparazzi, and staying professional on social media. Granted, some celebs are more successful than others.
One mystery that seems to keep the public endlessly entertained is the mystery of a child’s paternity. Maury Povich has based his day time talk show on this very topic, for years. And people keep watching it, sucked in by titles like “I Slept With My Husband’s Boss, Is he the father of my baby?”
The difference between the guests on the Maury Show and celebrities is the former probably just want their five minutes of fame and are willing to exploit their children to get it, and the latter just want to keep their dirty laundry to themselves. For once.
Nevertheless, despite how simple it is to get a paternity test these days, there are some mysteries the public might never truly get to the bottom of. Even if an “anonymous source” did try to expose some paternity mystery into the open, there is no way of knowing if it is legitimate. According to celebs at least, 99% of tabloid rumours are completely untrue. Although, the one about Beyonce faking her pregnancy with Blue Ivy and actually using a surrogate seems pretty possible.
I guess we just have to accept that we don’t get to know everything about celebrities and their blessed offspring. Here are four of the biggest celebrity paternity mysteries that we will probably never solve (and one that has been solved).
Linda Evangelista – Son, 8-year-old Augustin
Canadian fashion model, Linda Evangelista, has been featured on over 600 magazine covers since her career began in 1984, at age 19. She holds the records for the highest number of Vogue Italia covers, and even appeared on the August 2006 American Vogue cover while pregnant with her son, Augustin. Her successful modeling career is far from over, as she has recently been featured in campaigns for huge companies like L’Oreal Paris and Prada.
Besides the fame she has garnered through modeling work, Evangelista sparked tabloid interest in October 2006, after giving birth to her son. News of a celebrity baby is almost always accompanied by the name of the father, but at the time, Evangelista refused to name the father of her newborn son. There was speculation that French business man (and billionaire) Francois-Henri Pinault, who was dating A-lister Salma Hayek, was the father, but Linda’s management team denied it. They insisted that she had never named the father. Linda even mentioned to Hello! magazine that the father was actually an unnamed New York architect.
It wasn’t until 2011, that Evangelista filed court documents officially naming Pinault as the father. The revelation wasn’t a huge shocker, as tabloids had already speculated that he was the father due to the fact that the two dated during the time Linda would have conceived. She also filed a lawsuit and asked to receive $46,000 in child support payments per month. She told LOVE magazine in 2012, that she never would have revealed her son’s paternity at all if she wasn’t forced to sue Pinault for child support payments. She claimed that, despite his billions, Pinault refused to come to an agreement regarding support. In this case, the truth has been revealed, but it was a secret Evangelista would have preferred to keep forever, and for good reason. Who wants their child to be publicly denied when the man who helped create him, has gone off to have a happy family with someone else? (Pinault had a daughter, Valentina, with now-wife, Salma Hayek soon after Augustin was born)
Michael Jackson – Sons, Prince (17), Blanket (12), and daughter, Paris (16)
The mysteries surrounding Michael Jackson’s kids has always been a hot topic, and one that will probably never be solved since his death in 2009. Jackson always said that his three children, Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson, Prince Michael Jackson II and Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr. were his biological children, and he had full custody of all of them, to prove it. But the strange, seemingly abrupt way in which they came into the world, intrigued the tabloids, and also the public. Jackson married his long-time friend Debbie Rowe in 1997, while she was pregnant with Prince. There were some sources that said she was simply a surrogate, but Rowe insisted that she was in-fact the biological mother of Prince and Paris. But people wondered, if that were true, why would she give up her parental rights to them so easily? Was a big fat cheque all it took for her to forget her children? There were also rumors that dermatologist Dr. Arnold Klein is the father of the two eldest children, but he has denied any knowledge that this could be true.
If that wasn’t enough parental controversy for you, Jackson went on to suddenly have another son, Prince Michael II (aka Blanket), in 2002, through an anonymous surrogate. No one has ever been able to find the identity of the surrogate or the biological mother of Jackson’s youngest son. The fact that Jackson was so mysterious about his children’s conception has led many to believe that he is not actually their biological father. Nevertheless, he took care of them and was their father in name, if not biologically, so maybe that is all that matters.
Khloe Kardashian’s real father
There aren’t many people in the world that don’t know the name, Kardashian. Their reality show on E!, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, is one of the most talked about reality shows of all time, and at least one family member is on the cover of a tabloid every week. The Kardashians are one of those families that are famous simply for being famous. They love controversy, because it brings more attention to them, and “all publicity is good publicity”.
The three daughters of Kris Jenner and Robert Kardashian, Kourtney, Kim, and Khloe are the main focus of the show, and they all have their fair share of drama. But recently, there has been some speculation that youngest daughter, Khloe, might not actually have the same father. Two of Robert Kardashians ex-wives since Kris have stated that he mentioned not being Khloe’s biological father. But Kris continues to insist that there is no truth to the rumors.
The man that is rumored to be Khloe’s real father is Kris Jenner’s hair dresser, Alex Roldan (image above). Kris has admitted to cheating on Robert during their marriage, but still insists that Khloe is his child. Khloe has considered taking a paternity test, but has never gone through with it. Either way, the controversy has added big ratings to Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and we all know how that family loves to be in the spotlight.
January Jones – Son, 3-year-old, Xander
The fact that Mad Men, and X-Men: First Class star, January Jones, just flat out refuses to name the father of her three year old son, Xander, makes us wonder even more who it could be. She was publicly single when she announced her pregnancy in 2011, and has not been romantically attached to anyone since. When asked by the media who her son’s father is, she has said, “that’s my son’s business, it’s not the public’s business.” But that hasn’t stopped anyone from speculating.
One possibility is Matthew Vaughan, the director of X-Men: First Class, and husband of super model, Claudia Schiffer, but he has vehemently denied the suggestion. Another suspect was X-Men co-star, Michael Fassbender, but he has never even acknowledged the rumour. Finally, Jones was known to be dating Jason Sudeikis not long before she announced her pregnancy, but he has also denied the possibility that he is Xander’s father.
On the bright side, Jones has also stated that the identity of his father is not a secret she intends to keep from her son. Maybe it isn’t our business, but the truth could come out one day.
Ronan Farrow’s real father
The controversy surrounding award-winning director, Woody Allen, lately seems to keep growing and growing. But the allegations that his son, Ronan, with ex-wife Mia Farrow, is not actually his son, are the most intriguing. Ronan, now 26, is a lawyer and former U.S government advisor, and he is currently estranged from Allen. Ronan has said about his non-existent relationship with his father, “he’s my father married to my sister. That makes me his son and his brother-in-law. That is such a moral transgression.”
But the mystery gets really interesting when you add in the identity of Ronan’s proposed biological father: Frank Sinatra. Mia Farrow was married to Sinatra from 1966-68, and Ronan was born in 1987, but Mia was friends with Sinatra long after they split up, and has actually stated that Ronan could possibly be his son.
There has never been a paternity test done, and Allen has also expressed his doubt over Ronan’s paternity. It seems like no one involved is really that interested in knowing the truth. Maybe because deep down they already know, and a blood test wouldn’t really change anything.
