Every week it seems like a new celebrity is featured in the tabloids for partying too hard, driving under the influence or entering rehab. Consuming excessive amounts of alcohol appears to go hand in hand with being among the rich and famous, doesn’t it? Celebrities are constantly getting photographed at huge events, parties and clubs – where mass amounts of alcohol are served. So, it would seem that everyone in Hollywood parties and drinks, but that’s not the case at all. Here are sixteen celebrities who surprisingly, do NOT drink.
16. Bradley Cooper
Bradley Cooper does not drink — which is contrary to the character Phil he played in The Hangover, The Hangover 2 and The Hangover 3. Cooper told GQ magazine’s January 2014 issue, that at the age of 29, he decided to stop drinking and using drugs. He is now 39 years old. Bradley revealed the moment that turned him off to alcohol stating, “I was at a party and deliberately bashed my head on the concrete floor. Like, hey look how tough I am! I did it again and I spent the night at St. Vincent’s Hospital with a sock of ice, waiting for them to stitch me up.” Cooper decided that drinking would only get in the way of his career and decided to give it up. Since 2004, his career has taken off and Bradley has become an A-lister in Hollywood.
15. Blake Lively
Stunning actress, Blake Lively explained to Allure magazine in 2013 that she doesn’t drink and that she’s never touched any drugs. “I grew up with the mindset that after work, you go to dinner and watch a movie. I don’t want to go to a club and not wear panties,” Blake stated.
14. Jennifer Hudson
Jennifer Hudson shocked the queen of vodka, Chelsea Handler, in 2013 when she revealed to Handler on her late night talk show, Chelsea Lately, that she’s never had a drink in her life. Hudson stated, “I’ve never done anything, so that was hard to play this role [of a heroin addict],” talking about her role in the film Mister & Pete.
13. Russell Brand
Comedian and actor, Russell Brand stopped drinking in 2002, after struggling with drug and alcohol addiction for many years. In December 2012, Brand tweeted to his fans, “10 years clean today. Thanks for all your messages of love. Anyone can get clean, one day at a time.”
12. Kim Kardashian
Despite being the face of Midori liquor from 2011 to 2013, Kim Kardashian claims she does not drink at all. The thirty-two year old reality star has stated that she hates the taste of alcohol and that her sisters do enough drinking for her anyways.
11. Christina Ricci
Christina Ricci simply doesn’t drink, because she feels she outgrew it in her early 20’s. The thirty-four year old actress thought drinking didn’t do anything good for her or for her life and gave it up almost ten years ago.
10. David Beckham
David Beckham doesn’t drink and he credits the longevity of his career due to abstaining from alcohol. Beckham played professional soccer from 1993 to 2013, when he decided to retire. Surely, not drinking alcohol has done wonders for him, considering the average career duration for a professional soccer player is eight years, and Beckham’s career lasted 20 years.
9. Tyra Banks
Model, actress and talk show host, Tyra Banks, wrote on her website, “I’ve never had any drugs and I had a little taste of alcohol when I was 12 years old, but that’s about it.” Tyra is very health conscious and she believes alcohol is bad for your body, complexion and overall health.
8. Matthew Perry
Friends alumni, Matthew Perry hasn’t drank alcohol since he entered rehab in 2001, for an addiction to Vicodin. Perry struggled with alcoholism during his time in the spotlight while playing the lovable, Chandler Bing, on the hit television show, Friends. In 2013, Matthew transformed his Malibu mansion into a sober-living home for men called Perry House, so he could help others battle their addictions too.
7. Jennifer Lopez
Singer and actress, Jennifer Lopez told InStyle magazine about her drinking habits stating, “I think that ruins your skin. Of course, during celebratory toasts, everybody’s like, ‘You can’t toast with water!’ So I’ll toast with alcohol and just take a sip.”
6. Colin Farrell
Colin Farrell told Ellen DeGeneres on The Ellen Show in 2013, “I was terrified [of being sober] because, I’m not saying I was a great actor before or a great actor since, but I was terrified that whatever my capacity was as an actor beforehand, however little or large – it would completely disappear.” Farrell went to rehab in 2006 and has been sober for 7 years. It looks like Colin had nothing to fear about giving up alcohol, because he has had a steady and successful career since then, starring in films like, Horrible Bosses, Saving Mr. Banks, Fright Night and Total Recall.
5. Tobey Maguire
Tobey Maguire struggled with drug and alcohol addiction throughout his teenage years. He has been in Alcoholics Anonymous since he was 19, which is also when he last had a drink. Maguire is now thirty-eight years old.
4. Eva Mendes
Eva Mendes quietly went to rehab in 2008, for a cocaine and alcohol addiction. Mendes told Interview magazine in 2008 after leaving rehab, “I’m proud of people who have the determination and the fearlessness to actually go and face their demons and get better. This is a life or death situation.” The successful, forty year old actress has been sober since 2008.
3. Kat Von D
Kat Von D publicly battled her alcohol addiction in 2006, on the second season of her reality show L.A. Ink and on her Myspace page. On January 22, 2008, Kat wrote on her Myspace page, “…i would turn into a total Debby-Downer towards the end of each night. Like, I’d be the girl who was SO wasted and would start goin off on some rant (probably about nothing), and end up in tears… ugh… totally embarrassing a lot of the times.” Kat tweeted in the summer of 2013, “Today, marks my 6th year of sobriety! Yay for not being a drunken a**hole!! :).”
2. Gerard Butler
Gerard Butler gave up drinking at the age of twenty-seven. He is now forty-four years old. Butler decided to stop drinking, because he didn’t like the person he was when he drank and he knew drinking was getting in the way of his happiness and his life.
1. Ben Affleck
Ben Affleck told Mirror magazine in 2008, “Simple as this, I quit drinking. It’s really not that big a deal. It has no real bearing on anything else in my life. Your lifestyle changes at a certain age.” Affleck entered rehab for an alcohol addiction in 2001. Five days after entering rehab, his publicist released a statement saying, “Ben is a self-aware and smart man who has decided that a fuller life awaits him without alcohol. He is committed to traveling a healthier road with the support of his family, friends and fans.” Ben is sober and has been married to Jennifer Garner since 2005. Ben and Jennifer have three children together.
