Did you know that most successful people have a daily routine? They wake up in the morning and do things a certain way and before they know it, they are off to a great start to their day. Others, perhaps even yourself, may instead find it very difficult to get a head start in life. The truth is, there are simple ways to improve the quality of your life that only take a few minutes of your time. If you have a ton of responsibilities after work, remember that we all have the same number of hours in a day and there are people that will continue to get ahead in life because they are dedicated to remaining a winner.
Darren Hardy, the author of The Compound Effect wakes up every morning at 5:30am. I know many of you are asking yourself, who wakes up that early in the morning on a Saturday? Waking up when the sun rises may not be for everyone, but it works for him and it helps him manage his day better. Serena Williams admitted her documentary Venus and Serena that she practices the same tennis swing for hours until she masters it. Her dedication to excellence is the main reason for her consistent success on the tennis court no matter where she is in the world.
I challenge you to read this article and start practicing some of these tips every day. There are items on the list that you will or will not be able to commit to, but give it a try and see how much more productive you are. Remember that it is your birth right to have anything you want in this world, you just have to be willing to work for it!
10. Daydream Your Dreams into Reality
Success is not only setting goals and taking action, it includes having a creative mind. Personal development gurus call it creative visualization. Most of us simply know it as day dreaming. The idea is to let your imagination run wild. Find a quiet place in your home and clear your mind. Once your mind is clear, start thinking about who you want to become and all of your goals in great detail. The more you use your imagination, the more likely your visions will manifest and come true. Einstein couldn’t have said it any better: “Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.”
9. Laughter is An Instant Vacation
Before the day ends, make sure to add a laugh or two into your schedule. This can mean speaking to a co-worker that has a sense of humor, watching a funny sitcom before you go to sleep or checking out a YouTube skit of one of your favorite comedians. When you are in a good mood, you will make better decisions, and if you haven’t noticed, positivity creates a domino effect. People are attracted to being around people that are positive. The woman that walks into a job interview with a genuine positive attitude will be remembered, especially in contrast to someone who mopes around. Even when you think you are at your lowest point in life, humor can make a difference in how you feel.
8. Walk the Walk
Most of us have two 15-minute breaks at work. While some use this time to chat with co-workers or talk on the phone, shake off work-related stress by taking a brisk walk. Bring a pair of sneakers with you and walk around your building. Invite a few co-workers to join you. Studies show that exercising in groups also keeps people feeling committed to a regular routine.
If you live in a cold place, park your car at the end of the parking lot. If you have a gym in your office building or down the street, spend 30 minutes of your 1 hour lunch on the running machine. A healthy body will create a healthy mind and before you know it, you’ll have a great routine set up.
7. Find Love in Your Heart
We can all admit to not liking at least one person we have to face every day. It can be a bus driver, a professor, the landlord or the mail carrier. The key to having a great life is to find at least one thing that we like about every person we come in contact with. What you focus on expands and will become your reality. For every time you find a flaw in another person, the more you will be reminded of it. When you find the good in every person, you will notice how much easier it is to deal with difficult people. Sometimes someone you run into may be having an awful day, and you have no way of knowing. Try and give people the benefit of the doubt, and you’ll start seeing more beauty in everyday things.
6. Dress for Success
Whatever you decide to do for a living, a stylish outfit will give you the extra bit of confidence that you need to succeed. We all have a few favorite outfits in our closet that we wear on special occasions. Start believing that every day of your life is a special occasion. I am not suggesting that you go to the grocery store dressed up in a prom dress but the clothing you wear will have an influence on how people treat you. If you’re an H&M, urban outfitters or Banana Republic shopper, always make sure to look your best so you will be the best. You never know when opportunity may come knocking.
5. Personal Development is Essential
What you see and hear early in the morning and late at night before you fall asleep can make a significant difference in your happiness. If you take public transit to work or school, read inspiring quotes on your cell phone instead of playing Candy Crush. Before you fall asleep at night, read a book on personal development or a biography of someone in history that you admire. Do you spend most of your time on the road? Listen to a CD from a motivational speaker like Earl Nightingale, Napoleon Hill or Anthony Robbins. It will change your life forever.
4. Help Others & Help Yourself
When you take the time out of your life to help other people, you end up helping yourself. Most of these life changing tips are focused on what you can do for yourself, but the positive impact you have on another person is very important. Make someone smile, give advice to those who need it, publicly recognize someone for their achievements, there are no shortage of avenues to help out. What you put out there into the universe will always come back to you, whether that energy is positive or negative. When someone comes to you one day and tells you how much you changed their life, that will be the icing on the cake, and will help hammer home the point that you can make a significant difference in this world.
3. An Apple a Day…
Fruits are not only a healthier snack than food from a vending machine, but they provide instant energy and help to relieve stress. If an apple or a bowl of strawberries doesn’t hit the spot, make a fruit smoothie for breakfast or lunch. Other food that you can eat to get rid of unnecessary stress includes almonds, salad, peppermint tea, yogurt and avocados. With exercise included in your daily routine, replacing junk food with fruits will help you shed a few pounds to get you ready for beach season. Never forget that what you put inside of your body has an impact on everything from your mood, to your thoughts and overall life.
2. Plan for Your Future
Everyone is intelligent in their own way. The sad reality is some people don’t take the time to think past the end of the week, letting the wave of life lead them in any direction. Do you usually leave important items on your to do list to the last minute? Procrastination is the number one reason why people fail. Planning ahead will free up your time to focus on other responsibilities. If you have a presentation to do in 3 weeks from today, start working on it the minute it is handed to you. Can you imagine all of the errors you will find or creative points you can add to it? The early bird always gets the worm. You don’t just wake up one day and decide to buy a house, it takes careful planning, at least if you want to do it right!
1. Act Like the Person You Want to Become
I used to wonder why new rap artists would brag about cars and houses as if they already made it in the industry even if it was their first album. The lyrics in their songs brag about their future goals and they have a swag about themselves that they already made it in life. That type of energy is catchy, and there is no doubt that their confidence is a monumental reason behind their success. If you want to be a manager, be confident like one. If you want to become a politician, act the part. Don’t let anyone make you feel that you are not worthy of what you want in life. If you can imagine it, believe it and go after it. You have to believe that it is already yours.
