The year is coming to an end but we still have the American Music Awards to look forward to so let’s gather all the best red carpet looks so far of 2015.
One of the best moments to look forward to during an award show is the red carpet. The red carpet is where we get to see the stars arrive, who they arrived with, and how they arrived. However, a whole new trend has completely taken over. It’s always been a trend but it seems like 2015 took it to another level. We’re talking about the fashion.
Yes, fashion has always been an important part of an award show, especially to the celebrity and designer. Some celebrities get paid to wear that particular designer and others just come in with what they found in their closet. Either way, they arrive there ready to be embraced or ready to be ridiculed.
However, now it seems like fashion is even more important than the award show itself. It doesn’t matter how their performance went or how they did at presenting. The audience can’t seem to get enough of what they wore which is probably why there are plenty of shows now dedicated solely on the fashion such as Fashion Police and Styled to Rock.
Plus, don’t forget that infamous question some celebs dread being asked about. “Who are you wearing?” No celeb can get passed a red carpet interview without being asked that question. It is a must. In addition to these, social media has also participated in this celebrity trend with the ultimate memes. Just seconds after the celebrity makes their appearance, there are memes being posted all over the Internet and they are our favorite results of these red carpet looks.
So with 2015 almost over, we take a look back at the best looks that slayed the red carpet this year, whether you loved them or not.
15. Britney Spears – 2015 Video Music Awards
Britney Spears showed up at the 2015 Video Music Awards in a very revealing, sequence number. She wore a gold and silver La Bourjoisie dress that hugged her curves and squeezed her chest area that enhanced them. The “Toxic” singer was just fresh off a break-up with David Lucado but you could barely tell since she was looking amazing and so happy that night. Spears has also gone through a lot of ups and downs with her weight but she managed to get back on track which her break-up probably had something to do with it and she looked incredibly fit during the award show night. Her look also sort of gave us a flashback to the old Britney which is probably why we loved this style so much!
14. Madonna – 2015 Grammy Awards
Next on the list is close gal pal of Britney, Madonna. Very Madonna-like, the singer and actress showed up at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards wearing close to nothing. She went for a Matador look by Givenchy that took everyone’s attention when they saw her butt cheeks through her black thong. The pop star decided to give the audience a sneak peak to her new music video, “Living for Love,” by wearing a similar outfit to the one she wears in the video. The leotard outfit, which features a tight-fitting corset, was accessorized by Wolford fish-net stockings and black knee-high boots. Madonna never seems to disappoint when she wants to make an entrance and show that she is still hip no matter what anyone else thinks.
13. Sarah Jessica Parker – 2015 Met Gala
The 2015 Met Gala had every celebrity on their own style terms, with Sarah Jessica Parker taking the crown for most unique fashion statement. Although, her Phillip Treasy Custom headdress was a fashionable statement according to the actress herself, it was nothing more than an over the top accessory to us regular people. The “Sex and the City” star showed up at the Met Gala red carpet confident with her distinct taste in hats but did she know that her appearance was going to take over social media the very second she stepped out? The custom headdress was the center of attention but not in a high fashion way. Social media decided to compare Parker’s piece to the flame and devil emoji in a number of memes. It was certainly a memorable fashion moment from the red carpet this year.
12. Kim Kardashian – 2015 Grammy Awards
Perhaps because she knew she didn’t have much to offer that night, Kim Kardashian decided to show up at the 2015 Grammys in something that would grab everyone’s attention. She went for what looked like a sequence, super glamorous robe by Jean Paul Gaultier. Although it did look comfortable considering it really looked like a robe, the ultra fab gown apparently gave the Kardashian a hard time. “Basically, my pocket fell off,” the brunette beauty told E! News at a Grammys after-party. “When I sat, it ripped and we were sewing and safety-pinning.” We wonder what the reality TV star really thought, considering her hubby, Kanye West, chose the dress for her. Even Kimye has wardrobe malfunctions.
11. Rihanna – 2015 Grammy Awards
Another unique red carpet statement at the 2015 Met Gala was one of Hollywood’s favorite fashionista, Rihanna. Riri stepped out in this vivacious pink gown by Giambattista Valli Couture. You probably remember all the memes floating on social media that were designed to poke fun at the “Style to Rock” star’s choice of fashion. From a quincenera dress to a hot pink luffa, the social media crowd was on point at ridiculing this look. Sorry Rihanna, but this was just not one of our favorite looks from you, although, it was really entertaining. Regardless, the “FourFiveSeconds” singer strutted her stuff and we believe she was aware of what she was doing. Rihanna is known to have amazing fashion taste so this was really out of the blue which is why we think she showed up like this with a purpose.
10. Katy Perry – 2015 Grammy Awards
Just right after her amazing Super Bowl performance, Katy Perry came out roaring at the 2015 Grammy Award show in her purple short locks. While speaking to Ryan Seacrest, the 31-year-old said she wanted to “shine bright like a diamond.” She was definitely shining with her extra, crystal-embellished dress by Zuhair Murad which was fresh off the Paris Couture Runway and she worked it. Everyone was digging her purple ‘do, but it turned out to be just a wig as the pop star switched it to a more settled pony-tail look for her performance that night. Not to worry, Katy went back to her purple hair for the after party. Apparently, she was digging it too.
9. Kylie Jenner – Sugar Factory Grand Opening
Kylie Jenner surprised us all when she showed up at the Sugar Factory opening in New York City with her mint green long locks. The 18-year-old socialite is known for always switching up her look especially with her hair. Just a few days before the grand opening, she was a blonde, which also shocked the world. We just can’t keep up with the Kardashian. She is 18 years old so let’s just leave the teen alone and let her have fun. The reality TV star stepped out wearing an all-white ensemble with a crop top and high-waisted skirt. The hair was definitely the center of attention with the rest of her look being settle compared to the usual.
8. Gigi Hadid – 2015 Video Music Awards
Gigi Hadid wowed us at the 2015 Video Music Awards with this yellow number by Emilia Wickstead. The stunning model attended the award show as a presenter and to support bestie, Taylor Swift, and we must say she looked absolutely gorgeous doing so. It is not often Hadid goes for such a bold color on the red carpet. The 20-year-old usually goes for more undertone looks but it was the VMAs where usually celebs get to have more fun with their looks so it looks like the model got the memo. She walked down the red carpet in her glowing tan which reportedly came from her recent tropical vacation with ex-boyfriend, Joe Jonas.
7. Miley Cyrus – Tom Ford Fall 2015 Show
Miley Cyrus surprised us all with her high fashion appearance at Tom Ford’s Fall 2015 runway show in Los Angeles earlier this year. She went for an elegant, black lace gown. Miley, is that you? However, just as we thought she changed her outrageous style for the better, the “Wrecking Ball” singer admits that Ford had contacted her to not show up in her usual look. “He told me not to wear underwear tonight, so that was his advice, and I took it,” she giggled as she told InStyle magazine. “He’s one of the rare people where I just let him choose.” Okay so it makes sense that Cyrus is picky about who gets to choose what she wears considering her distinctive taste but we won’t mind if Ford chooses her outfits from now on as we prefer this style for her instead.
6. Taylor Swift – 2015 Grammy Awards
Taylor Swift has gone from a sweet teen to a more sophisticated young lady. Her fashion taste has definitely changed for the better. During the 2015 Grammy Awards, the “Shake it Off” singer turned heads in an amazing teal gown by Elie Saab that showed off her toned legs with a pop of purple at the bottom with her Giuseppe Zanotti shoes. Simple and chic. The songstress was nominated for three Grammy awards and we think she came perfectly prepared for music’s biggest night. She mentioned she loved the dress so much because it was short and long all at the same time.
5. Nicki Minaj – 2015 Video Music Awards
Another celeb with a distinctive style who surprised us all was Nicki Minaj at the 2015 Video Music Awards. She is known for making crazy appearances, showing off her most favorable asset and basically covered up in costumes. However, it seemed like Minaj was heading towards a different fashion route this year, from the Grammys to the Video Music Awards. The “Anaconda” rapper was seen wearing a more settled look, including this sheer dress by La Bourjoisie which was perfect. The dress was a great combination for the outspoken celeb with the very see-through elements that barely covered her assets and yet it was classy enough for her.
4. Kendall Jenner – 2015 ESPYs
It was a big night for Kendall Jenner as she headed to the 2015 ESPY Awards along with the rest of her sisters to support her former father and now woman, Caitlyn Jenner, to accept the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star stepped out gracefully in a long, black, sheer gown that brought out the model in her we all love to watch. She barely accessorized her elegant dress which still worked. The 20-year-old always knows how to make a model statement, whether she’s on the red carpet or out in the streets with her gal pals like Gigi Hadid.
3. Lady Gaga – 2015 Grammy Awards
Lady Gaga has been turning heads on the red carpet all year long. She has come a long way from her meat dress days. The “Born This Way” singer made a huge splash at the 2015 Grammy Awards, but not in her usual over-the-top ensembles. She showed up in this silver, sequence gown by Brandon Maxwell which was a really toned down look for the songstress. Although, it was still a revealing number, the dress hugged Gaga’s popular curves in a good way. That same night, she was getting ready to do a memorable performance with Tony Bennett so we believe the singer wanted all eyes and ears on her music as opposed to her fashion, as it should be.
2. Beyonce – 2015 Met Gala
In true Beyoncé fashion, the “Ring the Alarm” singer arrived at the 2015 Met Gala in Givenchy with this gorgeous, jewel-embellishment gown. Her dress covered her curves perfectly. It looks like the designers took their time and literally just decorated her body. US Weekly reported that a source told them about the pop diva making her driver turn around to change her look after she saw what everyone else was wearing. A rep of the “Single Ladies” singer denied those allegations, however, the change of her hair style was totally true.
According to her stylist, Neal Farinah, Beyonce was heading to the event in an “asian-inspired chignon” hair-do but then switched it into that long ponytail all done in an elevator with just the use of the mirrors around them. We’re not sure who killed the night at this point, Beyoncé or her hairstylist.
1. Jennifer Lopez – 2015 Billboard Music Awards
Jennifer Lopez decided to go all out at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards. Just like Britney Spears did at the VMAs, Lopez’s look was sort of a flashback to the old J-Lo days with this super revealing, sequence dress. She walked down the red carpet with her hair down and a smokey eye in this Charbel Zoe Couture gown, while everyone just watched with their jaw dropped. With a barely-there look, the “Jenny from the Block” singer once again pulled off this style and still looks classy because well, she’s J-Lo. We are used to seeing her midriff and the rest of her curves on display all these years. She has always kept her body in shape so why not flaunt it. The 46-year-old is definitely showing that age ain’t nothing but a number.
